- Taking his time over it, Fisher slid his legs off the cot. “I have you to thank for patching me up?” He tapped the bandage.
- Park nodded. “I hope it was sufficient. My medical training is not for humans.”
- “You’re a veterinarian?” Fisher pressed the wound again, frowning.
- “Once,” he said. “But not for some time. I was… made to give up my position after certain issues arose. My dedication to the state came into question.”
- The old man added something, and Fisher saw Park glance at a family photo. The faded picture showed Park and his grandfather, along with a woman and another older man. Park’s father, he guessed, maybe a wife or sister? He wondered where they were now.
- “I have to leave.” Fisher moved to rise, and his head swam, making him stumble.
- “Please, please sit.” Park guided him back down to the cot. “You have a concussion and you lost a lot of blood. Fortunately, I am a universal donor.”
