  1. I would fit in with the work being done by Osvaldo Gutierrez, David Fushman and Pratyush Tiwary. Osvaldo Gutierrez work in Computational catalyst design; concerted use of computation and experiment to elucidate reaction mechanisms and origins of selectivity in dual transition metal/photoredox-catalyzed transformations; reactive intermediates in iron-catalysis. Mechanistic Organometallic Chemistry, Supramolecular Catalyst Design, and Biomimetic Chemistry. David Fushman research interests being Structure, dynamics, stability, and function of biological macromolecules. Structural biology and molecular mechanisms of intracellular signaling. Ubiquitin-mediated signaling pathways. Structure and dynamics of multidomain proteins. Development and application of new robust theoretical and experimental approaches to protein structure and dynamics, including conformational ensembles, in order to understand their roles in protein stability and function. Structure, dynamics, and function of proteins and biological macromolecules, signaling and regulation in multidomain systems; intracellular signaling; ubiquitination; posttranslational modifications; Biological NMR and computational biology. Pratyush Tiwary`s work in My research group and I do inter-disciplinary theoretical and computational research to model and predict thermodynamics, dynamics and their interplay in complex real-world systems, relevant to pharmaceutical, chemical and materials sciences. A common theme across these diverse systems is that many of these are plagued with hard to model rare events. To tackle these we develop and use theoretical and computational tools drawing primarily from equilibrium and non-equilibrium statistical mechanics, as well as applied math and recent developments in machine learning/artificial intelligence. Inter-disciplinary theoretical and computational research to model and predict thermodynamics, dynamics and their interplay in complex real-world systems, relevant to pharmaceutical, chemical and materials sciences. Your strong faculty at the Department of Chemistry and Biochemistry is also another important factor. Finally, your curriculum is designed in such a way that it requires students not only to focus on core subjects within their own discipline but also go beyond their discipline to attend courses in other departments in order to develop a broad understanding of knowledge. All these make me believe that I will receive the best education I can expect. Therefore, I am convinced that I am a worthy candidate for your program.
