  1. >It was under the cover of darkness that the mission began in earnest.
  2. >Weeks of planing and subtle machinations all leading up to this singular moment in time and space.
  3. >What started simply as a joke between sisters soon evolved into something so much more, and now that it was actually happening Lana almost couldn't even believe it.
  4. >Grabbing her little makeshift hockey mask and sliding it over her face Lana quickly yet quietly slunk down the stairs, expertly dodging each squeaky step and loose board so as to not make a peep.
  5. >Alas, no sooner had her little feet touched to floor a loud and ominous creek rang out through the house.
  6. >Hair standing on end Lana spun around and glanced up...
  7. >...only to find her second eldest sister standing at the top, waving down at her.
  8. "Hi Lana," Leni whispered, similarly decked out in her totes adorbs 'sneaky suit' with what looked like black legging pulled over her face.
  9. "Quiet Leni," Lana hissed back, eyeing their parents bedroom door warily. "Don't wake anybody up."
  10. >Leni nodded blissfully, took one step, and promptly fell down the stairs, making literally as much noise as physically possible before landing in a crumpled heap at her little sister's feet.
  11. >She lay there for a minute, groaning in pain, before a shaky hand rose up from the pile and offered a thumb's up.
  12. "'M okay," she mumbled, and Lana smacked her face and dragged the palm down.
  13. >Quickly grabbing Leni's hand in her own Lana hauled the dimwitted fashionista to her feet and the two made their way towards the front door post haste.
  14. >For tonight a most exciting venture was to take place, a tale of adventure and intrigue, a story of sacrifice and sensation!
  15. >For their destination?
  16. >Why none other than the Mr. Gobbleton's Turkey Emporium just outside Royal Woods.
  17. >Their purpose?
  18. >To make sure no turkey was to be needlessly sacrificed.
  19. >That's right, from this year on and henceforth turkey was off the menu!
  20.
  21. >Stealthily opening the door, the duo made a beeline for the family car- Vanzilla
  22. >Taking a pin from her blonde hair, Leni quickly set to work on unlocking the car door
  23. "Come on, Leni, we don't have alot of time before Lori and Lola notice we're missing!" Lana whispered in a hurried tone.
  24. >Hearing a click, Leni whispered a jubilant cheer and opened the door.
  25. >Getting in the passengers seat, Leni kept a vigilant eye on the windows of their home, alert for any sign of discovery.
  26. >Underneath the steering wheel, Lana was quickly bothering the van
  27. "Okay, cut the red, hold the blue, shave the green, and..."
  28. >The van came to life with loud pur
  29. "Alright that ought to do it!" exclaimed Lana happily.
  30. "Umm... Lana..." Leni said with a certain amount of confusion, "you told me to tell you if I saw any lights go on in the house, right?"
  31. "Oh God, are they on!" Lana said, panicking.
  32. "Yeah..." she squeaked
  33. "Hurry, change seats!" Lana exclaimed before shoving Leni into the drivers seat, "Now drive!"
  34. "About that... I kind of forgot how to drive" Leni sheepishly said.
  35.
  36. "Aw, c'mon Leni, it's not rocket science!" Lana complained.
  37. >Leni frowned and grabbed the steering wheel, her brain jogging ass he desperately tried to remember the lessons Lincoln had taught her months ago.
  38. >Let's see, first you grab the sticky-thingy, and then you... or wait no first you put it in 'Go'... or was that..."
  39. "Leni!" Lana hissed in alarm, eyes wide as she glanced up at Lincoln's window, now alight with a gentle yellow glow.
  40. >Panic set in and Leni grabbed the gear stick on instinct.
  41. "B-b-but I don't--
  42. "Just back it up!"
  43. "Back it up!?"
  44. >The porch light turned on and even from the car the girls could see the door knob turn.
  45. "BACK IT UP!" Lana howled, her whole life flashing before her eyes. It wasn't much to be honest, and Lana resolved to get a bucket list together after this.
  46. >Leni's pupils shrank to pinpricks and in one quick motion she squeezed the gearshift tight and jerked it back.
  47. "BACKING UP!" Leni screamed, and slammed her foot into the gas pedal.
  48. >With a sputter and a clatter the car lurched to life, and the tires let out a fearful screech as the van peeled out of the driveway and down the street.
  49. >...completely backwards.
  50.
  51. >On they went in full reverse!
  52. >They knocked over a trashcan, splattering its contents onto the van.
  53. >They hit a mailbox, and its letters were sent fluttering into the air, with one landing on the windshield.
  54. >They plowed through a white picket fence.
  55. "Leni, stop backing up!" Lana yelled in fear, still in shock.
  56. >The car veered onto speed bumps while racing past a school.
  57. "Bu-u-ut yo-oo-ou s-ai-ai-d t-o-o b-a-a-ck i-i-t u-u-p!" Leni said
  58. "JUST ST-O-O-O-O-O-O-O-P!!!"
  59. >The van screeched to a halt leaving long skid marks.
  60. "I stopped!" Leni said cheerfully.
  61. "Thank God too, if we hadn't we would only have Lucy to talk to. Just park the van, we'll walk the rest of the way, Leni".
  62. "Okay!"
  63. >Leni once again sent the car full speed- forward this time- heading straight for the school.
  64. "LENI, WHAT ARE YOU DOING!"
  65. "I'm parking!" she replied as she turned a hard right, crashed through the school fence, and into the school playground.
  66. >Crashing into the playground, the car was finally brought to a stop.
  67. "Gosh Leni, you're lucky Vanzilla still has airbags up front. What were you thinking?"
  68. "You said to park and..." she held up her hands towards the playground "this was the closest one I knew!"
  69. "Uhh... Just forget it Leni, we'll walk the rest of the way there."
  70. >And so the two adventures trekked on towards their goal...
  71.
  72. >As the two sisters walked onward through the night Lana couldn't help but grumble to herself.
  73. >This... yeah this wasn't going exactly the way she wanted, but then again she really should've known better.
  74. >When bringing along a Leni, always prepare a back-up plan.
  75. >Alas, all she had in her bag was a few extra pick-locks, a blow-torch, and a rusty crowbar, which would only really do in a pinch.
  76. >So on they walked, but luckily Lana knew a shortcut!
  77. "Quick Leni," the tot chirped, grabbing the hem of her sister's ninja getup and dragging her towards a copse of trees. "We'll cut through the woods!"
  78. >Leni considered her sister's words for a moment, contemplating the ramifications of such an action, then looked down at her with an equally wide grin.
  79. "Okay! I'm sure nothing can go wrong!"
  80. >Such cheerful thinking would be thoroughly tested, for the girls had not been walking for more than ten minutes before, from the inky gloom of the shadowy forest around them, came a mournful howl.
  81. >Leni stopped dead in her tracks and looked around, wide-eyed and fearful.
  82. "W-wolves!" Leni cried.
  83. "Nah," Lana brushed her off, "'s just coyotes."
  84. >Leni immediately calmed down.
  85. "Oh," she replied, and the two walked on for about two more minutes before another howl, this one much closer, stopped them in their tracks.
  86. "Hey Lana," Leni asked, not at all worried, "what's a coyote?"
  87. "Uhhh," Lana muttered, glancing about with more than a hint of concern, "it's like a wolf but a little smaller..."
  88. "...oh..." Leni said, no longer quite as blissfully confident as she was a moment ago.
  89. >Another howl rang out through the night sky and the two girls huddled close, shivering from the chill of the November night air.
  90. >The snapping sticks and rustling of leaves around them in the dark did little to assuage their apprehensions...
  91.
  92. >Picking up the pace, the duo eventually began to run in earnest. All the while the sounds of their pursuers kept up with them
  93. >Taking a quick glance back, Lana saw pairs of eyes trailing just behind them, getting closer and closer
  94. "Uh Leni, are you running as fast as you can right now?" she asked in between hurried breathes.
  95. "Yeah, I just wish I hadn't worn these boots. If I had known we were going to go run in the woods I would have taken some stylish sneakers instead!"
  96. >Lana's mind raced as she tried to figure out a way out of their predicament without become dog chow.
  97. >Wait!
  98. "Leni, do you have any of your nutritious snacks with you right now!?
  99. "Of course! I never leave home without them!"
  100. "Give me some!"
  101. "But Lori said that I shouldn't share with anyone or she won't buy me anymore!"
  102. "JUST GIVE ME IT!"
  103. >Leni passed her a few packs of nutritional food consisting of granola, meat, and dried fruits
  104. >Ripping them all open, Lana tossed them back towards the approaching coyotes
  105. >Running on, the sounds of the pack trailed off
  106. >Still running, the two finally reached the ends of the woods
  107. >And had ended up right next to Flips Food n Fuel...
  108.
  109. "Aha!" Lana cried, snapping her fingers. "Flip's! Just like I thought, that shortcut worked! Now all we have to do is... Leni where are you going?"
  110. >Leni, who was walking towards the gas station, turned to look over her shoulder long enough to say:
  111. "Oh, I've been totes meaning to try out the new Black Cherry Flippy he just got in, Lori said it's literally to die for!"
  112. "Leni we don't have time for--
  113. >But she had already turned around, drawn towards the bright lights of the gas station like a moth to the flame.
  114. >Lana groaned and smacked her forehead, but when a howl rang out in the night air behind her she quickly scrambled after her sister and the two entered the store together.
  115. >The first thing that she noticed was the smell, a wafting fragrance of week-old meat that smacked her right in the face.
  116. >The second thing she noticed was that the man behind the counter was not Flip.
  117. >He was a tall gaunt figure, covered head to toe in heavy rags and blankets, his greasy grey hair hanging down in tangled knots.
  118. >He stared at the two girls with wide yellow eyes and immediately Lana felt a chill of terror run up her spine.
  119. "Hi there!" Leni chirped, walking in without a care in the world.
  120. >She paused to glance at the strange man for a second, tilting her head in confusion.
  121. "You're not Flip," she observed, making her way to the slushy machine.
  122. >The man behind the counter suddenly jerked to life and snapped his head towards her with a crack.
  123. "Heeeesssss... oooooouuuuuut..."
  124. >His voice sounded like dry ice on the soul, and Lana flinched back at the sound.
  125. >Leni nodded her head and smiled.
  126. "Okay then!"
  127. >Filling up her cup with the delightful treat she sought Leni made her way to the counter...
  128. >...and suddenly stopped dead.
  129. "What's that red stuff all over the walls?"
  130. >Lana's eyes widened and she glanced at the wall behind the man's head and sure enough it was practically covered with a dark red liquid.
  131.
  132. "Itsss nooothiiing"
  133. >Satisfied with the answer, Leni took the beverage from the man's cold hands.
  134. "I don't know Leni," Lana nervously interjected, "maybe we ought to just go on our way."
  135. >The man looked over at Lana with his yellow piercing eyes
  136. "Doooon't wooorry, there'sss nooothing to worrrry about little girrrrl. Herrre, I'll giiiive you a niiiice driiink for frrree tooooo"
  137. >He began to fill up another cup of the drink when a pair of headlights veered onto the parking lot of Flips
  138. >Getting out of the car was none other than Flip himself, covered in red liquid and carrying a load of towels.
  139. "Yep, it took me a while to get em but here's the rags you need to clean up that mess of yours you made," he said as he tossed them towards the clerk.
  140. "Yeessss ssiirrr"
  141. >Flip raised an eyebrow and sniffed the air
  142. "Have you been drinking again?"
  143. "Nooo sirrrr"
  144. "Then why are you slurring your words? I don't pay you to drink I pay you to make money! Now get on with it!
  145. "You don't pay me at all!"
  146. >Flip gave a snort and began to walk back into his office before noticing the two Louds with drinks in hand
  147. "Isn't it a bit late for you fellas to be out here all alone?
  148. >Lana realized the danger Flip provided if he called their parents and thought quickly for a retort.
  149. "Too late to make you money?" she said pointing to her Flippie.
  150. "Ehhh... good point. Just be careful out there. Heard there's maniacs driving backwards out there."
  151. >As they left the station Leni looked back towards the store clerk cleaning up the red liquid and read his nametag.
  152. "Thanks for the free Flippie, Edward!"
  153. "Wow wow wow wow! FREE FLIPPIE!?" they heard come from Flips office, "come back here and pay for that!"
  154. >Naturally, the duo booked it out of there and back into the dark streets, heading for their destination... and wondering what they'd find.
  155.
  156. >Walking through the darkness of a clear Autumn night with only the moon, the ever-present street lights, and the overall light pollution from a heavily populated suburban area to guide them Lana slurped on her flippie and smacked her lips in satisfaction.
  157. >Lori was right, that Black Cherry was good!
  158. "Hey Leni?" Lana asked, looking up at her older sister.
  159. "Mhmm?" Leni mumbled through a mouthful of tasty goodness.
  160. "You get the feeling that something weird is going on tonight? Like maybe some strange invisible force is guiding us into increasingly dangerous situations only for a second but no less omnipotent invisible force, Fate if you will, to reveal our earlier fears to be baseless or otherwise unfounded as we escape from these seemingly perilous situations without so much as a scratch?"
  161. >Leni pondered her sister's question for a moment, took a deep slurp of her slushy, and then looked down at her with a lazy grin.
  162. "Not really, I try not to think too much."
  163. >The two stared at each other for a bit before, slowly, Lana looked away.
  164. "Fair enough..."
  165. >But just as she was about to resume walking Leni let out a gasp and pointed forward.
  166. "Like, look!" she cried out, hopping in place, "We're totes here!"
  167. >And indeed they were, and Lana looked up at the sign with a mixture of awe and contempt for what it represented, corporate greed at its finest and a blatant disregard for the precious lives of the animals she loved.
  168. "Mr. Gobbleton's Turkey Emporium," Lana hissed through grit teeth, narrowing her eyes as she glared down the sign for all it was worth.
  169. >Finally, they were here. Now it was time to get to work.
  170. >Th two sisters glanced at each other, determination in their eyes as they pulled down their respective masks over their heads.
  171. >Lana gripped her bag of tools tight in her tiny hands and lead the charge, keeping low to the ground as she slunk around the perimeter, trying her best to keep out of sight and always keeping an ear out for any patrolling guards.
  172.
  173. "Alright Leni, here's what we are going to do. We're going to slip into the building through the side door. Now this door doesn't have your average lock on it, so I'm going to try and pick it while you keep lookout. You got it?"
  174. "But Lana, we don't need to pick it, I have the keys right here!" Leni said as she revealed a set of keys.
  175. "Leni! Those are the keys to Vanzilla! I thought you said you couldn't find them!"
  176. "Really!?"
  177. "Yes, really! I wouldn't have needed to hotwire the Van if you'd shown me that earlier!"
  178. "Oops"
  179. "Just... whatever. Do you get the plan?"
  180. "What plan?"
  181. >And so Lana told Leni the plan, again.
  182. "And from there we open up the pens and let them all loose," Lana finished.
  183. "Okay, I get it!" Leni said with a beaming smile.
  184. >Onwards, they went.
  185. >Making not a sound, the 2 slipped past the lone guard by the front entrance and made their way to the side door
  186. >It was a sleek silver metal door with a large locking mechanism on the handle
  187. >Setting her tools down, Lana began working on picking the lock.
  188. "Y'know Leni, I can't help but feel that Fate is about to turn on us again, and not for the better. Whatever is behind this door is bound to be ugly and dangerous."
  189. "I doubt it... I mean, how bad can it be!"
  190. "Yeah, I guess you're right... still..."
  191. >The rest of the time was spent in silence, with only the soft scrape of the metal inner workings of the lock breaking it.
  192. >Finally, a click was heard, and the door opened quietly, perfectly oiled.
  193. >Together, they stepped inside.
