  1. INT. SKULL SHIP
  2.
  3.
  4.
  5. Brainiac and L-Ron watch the solar conductor on their view screen.
  6.
  7.
  8.
  9. BRAINIAC
  10.
  11. Launch the hybrid technology.
  12.
  13.
  14.
  15. L-Ron presses a button on the control panel.
  16.
  17.
  18.
  19. INT. ROCKET CARGO HOLD
  20.
  21.
  22.
  23. Technology extremely alien in appearance fills the cargo hold. It
  24.
  25. begins vibrated, then explodes, "growing" out of the smoke. It
  26.
  27. spreads throughout the cargo hold and...

  29.
  30.
  31. EXT. SPACE
  32.
  33.
  34.
  35. ...out through the rocket's seams. It consumes the rocket from
  36.
  37. within, covering it in bio-metallic tendrils.
  38.
  39.
  40.
  41. In the midst of the Solar Conductor, an Earth made rocket labelled
  42.
  43. LexTech 37 grows white hot with energy. Then, lasers burst out of
  44.
  45. it from all sides, striking and bouncing off the mirrors of the
  46.
  47. solar conductor, creating a 'net' across the miles-wide diameter.
  48.
  49. The 'net' begins to slowly prevent sunlight from passing through.
  50.
  51. The light that shone on Earth now fades slightly, as Brainiac's
  52.
  53. SHADOWCASTER goes to work.
  54.
  55.
  56.
  57. EXT. MOUNT RUSHMORE - NIGHT
  58.
  59.
  60.
  61. Packing up, Clark doubles over slightly, as if suddenly woozy. He
  62.
  63. rights himself and shakes it off, smiling.
  64.
  65.
  66.
  67. CLARK
  68.
  69. Indigestion. Maybe I didn't cook the
  70.
  71. chicken long enough.
  72.
  73. [...]
  74.
  75. Clark becomes a blur that turns into Superman. He leaps off the
  76.
  77. cliff.
  78.
  79.
  80.
  81. EXT. SPACE - CONTINUOUS
  82.
  83.
  84.
  85. The ShadowCaster seals off a large section of sunlight.
  86.
  87.
  88.
  89. EXT. MOUNT RUSHMORE - CONTINUOUS
  90.
  91.
  92.
  93. Suddenly, Superman is struck, as if shot. He falters in mid-air
  94.
  95. and falls against the edge of the cliff.
  96.
  97.
  98.
  99. Lois shrieks and grabs his hand, catching him in the nick of time.
  100.
  101. Superman looks up at her, wide-eyed. He throws his other hand up
  102.
  103. to Lois. She digs her heels into the ground and pulls, as Superman
  104.
  105. climbs up to the safety of the level ground. He collapses to his
  106.
  107. hands and knees, breathing heavily. Lois is on top of him,
  108.
  109. checking his pulse, feeling his head.
  110.
  111.
  112.
  113. LOIS
  114.
  115. God, Clark - are you okay?! What
  116.
  117. happened?! Was it Kryptonite?!
  118.
  119.
  120.
  121. SUPERMAN
  122.
  123. It wasn't a toxic reaction. It was
  124.
  125. something else.
  126.
  127.
  128.
  129. LOIS
  130.
  131. We've gotta get you home...
  132.
  133.
  134.
  135. SUPERMAN
  136.
  137. (leaps to fly)
  138.
  139. I'll be okay - that plane won't if I
  140.
  141. don't leave now.
  142.
  143.
  144.
  145. LOIS
  146.
  147. (pulls him back)
  148.
  149. Are you out of your mind?! You almost
  150.
  151. fell of a cliff, Clark! You!
  152.
  153.
  154.
  155. Superman gently extracts his cape from her grip, touching her
  156.
  157. face. He then lifts off the ground, hanging there -- apparently
  158.
  159. back to normal. He shrugs at her, and disappears in a flash of
  160.
  161. red, leaving behind a worried Lois.
  162.
  163. [...]
  164.
  165. EXT. SPACE
  166.
  167.
  168.
  169. The ShadowCaster goes full throttle, completely cutting off what
  170.
  171. little sunlight was seeping out.
  172.
  173.
  174.
  175. EXT. METROPOLIS - DAY
  176.
  177.
  178.
  179. The sun -- eclipsed by Brainiac's device -- disappears, plunging
  180.
  181. the Earth -- and the city -- into the darkness of moonlight.
  182.
  183. [...]
  184.
  185. EXT. METROPOLIS PARK - NIGHT
  186.
  187.
  188.
  189. Superman takes a hit from Doomsday and goes stumbling backwards.
  190.
  191. He pauses and notices the fading sunlight. Then, it dawns on him:
  192.
  193. his power source is being cut off.
  194.
  195.
  196.
  197. Doomsday plows into him. Superman fights back valiantly, but knows
  198.
  199. that he's being depleted. He begins to falter. Doomsday grabs him
  200.
  201. and hurls Superman back into the hole.
  202.
  203.
  204.
  205. INT. SEWER SYSTEM
  206.
  207.
  208.
  209. Superman lands, and Doomsday is on him anew, holding Superman in a
  210.
  211. headlock. Superman flips Doomsday off his back and drop kicks him
  212.
  213. down the tunnel, out of sight.
  214.
  215.
  216.
  217. Then, we hear a HIGH PITCH SHRIEK sounding. Superman winces -- the
  218.
  219. sound filling his head. The SHRIEK FADES, and we hear TAPPING, as
  220.
  221. if on a MICROPHONE, and...
  222.
  223.
  224.
  225. LEX (V.O.)
  226.
  227. Is this thing on?
  228.
  229. (chuckles)
  230.
  231. Hello, Blue-boy. It's your better --
  232.
  233. Luthor -- speaking to you from a
  234.
  235. frequency that only super-hearing can
  236.
  237. detect.
  238.
  239.
  240.
  241. INT. LEX'S OFFICE - NIGHT
  242.
  243.
  244.
  245. Lex looks out upon the prematurely-darkened Metropolis -- a
  246.
  247. microphone in his hand.
  248.
  249.
  250.
  251. LEX
  252.
  253. Things don't look too good for you, alien.
  254.
  255. It seems I've finally found your Achilles
  256.
  257. heel: the Earth's yellow sun.
  258.
  259.
  260.
  261. EXT. SEWER DROPOFF DRAIN
  262.
  263.
  264.
  265. Superman enters cautiously.
  266.
  267.
  268.
  269. LEX (V.O.)
  270.
  271. Without it, you're not that impressive.
  272.
  273. Look at you -- alone, beaten, nearly
  274.
  275. broken. Where are all the good people
  276.
  277. you've put your neck on the line so many
  278.
  279. times for? You'd think they'd return the
  280.
  281. favor.
  282.
  283.
  284.
  285. Then, Doomsday drops from the ceiling, crushing the Man of Steel.
  286.
  287. They fight through the current, heading toward the dropoff.
  288.
  289. Superman pulls himself from D-Day's grasp, but Doomsday double-
  290.
  291. fists the floor, shaking the ceiling loose, which comes down
  292.
  293. around Superman, pinning him.
  294.
  295.
  296.
  297. Doomsday winds up and gives Superman a right-hook, sending him
  298.
  299. falling into the churning muck below.
  300.
  301.
  302.
  303. EXT. METROPOLIS STREETS
  304.
  305.
  306.
  307. Lois slides across a cab's hood, rushing toward the park. She
  308.
  309. muscles through the crowds that keep their distance.
  310.
  311.
  312.
  313. INT. SEWER DROPOFF
  314.
  315.
  316.
  317. Doomsday studies the muck below.
  318.
  319.
  320.
  321. Superman explodes from the sewerage. howling up at Doomsday in a
  322.
  323. flash, catching him with his fists. The pair...

  327. EXT. METROPOLIS STREETS

  330.
  331. ... shoot through the pavement, spraying debris everywhere.
  332.
  333.
  334.
  335. Superman goes ballistic, racing at the beast anew, pummelling him.
  336.
  337. But Doomsday rallies back, throwing punches that actually draw
  338.
  339. blood. The Man of Steel drops to his knees, Lex's voice still
  340.
  341. filling his head.
  342.
  343.
  344.
  345. LEX (V.O.)
  346.
  347. You'd think the solar energy that you
  348.
  349. store would last longer, wouldn't you? I
  350.
  351. mean, you fly at night, and there's no
  352.
  353. sun then? Why are you weakening now?
  354.
  355. (chuckles)
  356.
  357. Apparently, soaring through the sky,
  358.
  359. catching muggers, and rustling the
  360.
  361. occasional cat burglar doesn't take the
  362.
  363. effort it's taking you to hold your own
  364.
  365. against the mindless wonder there. Any
  366.
  367. stored solar energy you may have is being
  368.
  369. exhausted. Plainly put -- you're running
  370.
  371. out of gas, and the pumps are closed.
  372.
  373.
  374.
  375. Doomsday leaps atop Superman, beating him down, savagely.
  376.
  377. Superman's running out of time.
  378.
  379. [...]
  380.
  381. EXT. METROPOLIS STREETS
  382.
  383.
  384.
  385. The torn "S" insignia on Superman's chest, dripping with blood.
  386.
  387. Superman gives it his all against the mindless Doomsday, the voice
  388.
  389. of Lex still filling his head.
  390.
  391.
  392.
  393. LEX (V.O.)
  394.
  395. I really just called to tell you that
  396.
  397. your reign is over. You're being replaced.
  398.
  399. And this city... this world is about to
  400.
  401. fall on its knees before LexCorp and its
  402.
  403. C.E.O.
  404.
  405.
  406.
  407. We hear Superman's HEARTBEAT -- and it's not that strong.
  408.
  409.
  410.
  411. INT. CRAFT
  412.
  413.
  414.
  415. Back in the Antarctic, the HEARTBEAT FAINTLY ECHOES through the
  416.
  417. cabin. The "S" on the screen gives way to a vital signs graph,
  418.
  419. including a heart-rate monitor. All the signs are dangerously low,
  420.
  421. as indicated by the readout.
  422.
  423.
  424.
  425. INT. FORTRESS
  426.
  427.
  428.
  429. The body of the rocket dislodges from the ceiling, falling to the
  430.
  431. snow. It begins transforming, growing a body.
  432.
  433.
  434.
  435. EXT. METROPOLIS STREETS
  436.
  437.
  438.
  439. Superman and Doomsday go at it, both weakening. But it's clear
  440.
  441. Superman's the worse off.
  442.
  443.
  444.
  445. Lois pushes through the crowd, followed by Jimmy. Her eyes go
  446.
  447. wide.
  448.
  449.
  450.
  451. LOIS
  452.
  453. Clark! Go! Fly away! Get out of here
  454.
  455. before that thing kills you!
  456.
  457.
  458.
  459. His power diminished, the Man of Steel is on the ropes. His lethal
  460.
  461. opponent, too, appears to be reaching for the grave. But neither
  462.
  463. relents. And even now, Superman has Lex's voice in his head.
  464.
  465.
  466.
  467. LEX (V.O.)
  468.
  469. You had no business here from the start,
  470.
  471. Kryptonian -- but here you'll die...
  472.
  473.
  474.
  475. CLOSEUP - SUPERMAN
  476.
  477.
  478.

  482.
  483. CLOSEUP - LOIS
  484.

  491. CLOSEUP - SUPERMAN
  492.
  493.
  494.
  495. as he manages a final weak smile, as if to say good-bye.
  496.
  497.
  498.
  499. LEX (V.O.)
  500.
  501. I just wanted you to know who it was that
  502.
  503. beat you, boy!
  504.
  505.
  506.
  507. CLOSEUP - LOIS
  508.
  509.
  510.
  511. She at first smiles through her tears as well, until she realizes
  512.
  513. what it means.
  514.
  515.
  516.
  517. LOIS
  518.
  519. (shaking her head; screaming)
  520.
  521. Noooooo!
  522.
  523.
  524.
  525. And the pair throw their last punches, connecting with one
  526.
  527. another's heads. The shock of their mortal BLOWS EXPLODE like a
  528.
  529. sonic boom throughout Metropolis.

  540.
  541. CLOSEUP - JIMMY
  542.
  543.

  556.
  557. EXT. METROPOLIS STREETS
  558.
  559.
  560.
  561. And in a moment that seems like an eternity, the two mighty

  573. his surroundings. He moves to a nearby computer and hooks into it.
  574.
  575. A map of the world fills the screen. We digitally race through it

  588.
  589. Superman.
  590.
  591.
  592.
  593. Lois fights her way through the masses, dropping to her knees
  594.
  595. beside the fallen Man of Steel. She lifts his head from the

  597. rubble, cradling it. He opens his eyes, partially, muck, filth,

  610.
  611. LOIS
  612.
  613. Shhhhh... you did it, Clark. You did it.

  620.
  621. Lois...
  622.
  623.
  624.
  625. He goes limp. Lois breaks down. The crowd's in shock.
  626.
  627.
  628.
  629. Superman is dead.
