  1. [18:57] Lyulf Yayle says, "Come out."
  2. [18:57] Lyulf Yayle says, "Mhm, you're different."
  3. [18:57] Perthro asks, "Hm?"
  4. [18:57] Lyulf Yayle says, "One of you died today."
  5. [18:57] Perthro asks, "Really?"
  6. [18:57] Lyulf slide down the bank as he closed the distance between himself and the fae. Walking closer to them, though still stopping at three feet away. The youth simply seemed to look them over.
  7. (Lyulf Yayle)
  8. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------
  9.
  10. [18:57] Lyulf Yayle says, "Yes, monsters ravaged the city to save her. They failed but countless people died regardless."
  11. [18:57] Perthro says, "I don't think I knew her."
  12. [18:57] Perthro says, "That's kind of sad, though."
  13. [18:57] * You have been awarded 3 Roleplay Points! *
  14. [18:57] Lyulf Yayle says, "It was a tragedy. "
  15. [18:57] Perthro asks, "Did you know them?"
  16. [18:57] Lyulf Yayle says, "No, I didn't know many of those who died today. "
  17. [18:57] Lyulf Yayle says, "They were... Weak, it is the fate of the weak to die..."
  18. [18:57] Perthro says, "It's everyone's fate to die. But, death isn't really that bad. It's the same as birth, when you think about it."
  19. [18:57] Lyulf seemed to have almost a vacant look in his eyes. Probably seeing a massacre while being so young didn't do well for his psyche. Then he blinked and looked back at Pertho.
  20. (Lyulf Yayle)
  21. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------
  22.
  23. [18:57] Lyulf Yayle asks, "What?"
  24. [18:57] Perthro says, "Well, you don't come from nothing. So, it doesn't make sense that you'd return to nothing, either! Just like many things come together to make you alive, those same things go on to make other things."
  25. [18:57] Perthro says, "Not only your body becoming one with the dirt, but your spirit going away too."
  26. [18:57] Lyulf Yayle says, "That's to... Abstract."
  27. [18:57] Lyulf Yayle says, "It also doesn't make things easier you know? They still died and they suffered. "
  28. [18:57] Perthro says, "It makes sense to me. But, yeah.. I guess you're right."
  29. [18:57] Perthro says, "At least they don't need to suffer anymore."
  30. [18:57] Lyulf Yayle says, "I do though."
  31. [18:57] Lyulf Yayle says, "..."
  32. [18:57] Lyulf Yayle says, "Forget it, I stopped you because I wanted to see a 'wonder' of the natural world again."
  33. [18:57] "I wonder why humans get so attached. To other humans, to their homes. I keep seeing you people get very sad about loss. It doesn't make sense to me." he pondered. The fairy peered not only into Lyulf's eyes, but into his emotions.
  34.
  35. Being an empathetic creature, Perthro could feel Lyulf's trauma and anguish through his heightened senses. But, the fairy sought a deeper understanding of the human race's woes.
  36.
  37. "I hope there's a reason. Pain begets more pain. I understand this! Even seeing you like this is starting to bum me out."
  38. (Perthro)
  39. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------
  40.
  41. [18:57] Natural wonder, they really were weren't they? Strange little things that were far to different from a person. Lyulf's emotions were on display and he realized that fully. Yet, deep beneath the trauma and anguish there was a deep sense of anger, of hatred. Yet, it didn't seem to be focused outwards at all. Harder to sense than the surface emotions.
  42.
  43. "You just don't understand; you're not a human. You don't understand what its like to live a hard life only brightened by those around you." Why was he even bothering? The fae would never truly understand what it was like to be a person. They were just a part of nature. Not all that different from the wraith that'd destroyed his arm. Smaller maybe but no less alien.
  44.
  45. The youth's hand came up and he loosened his cloak. Opening it wide enough so that the fae could see his withered arm. "I've heard your kind can heal any injury. What about this?" His right arm hung their limply, a dead-weight warped through the time-stream.
  46. (Lyulf Yayle)
  47. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------
  48.
  49. [18:57] "You're right, I don't."
  50.
  51. He wasn't only a fae, he was a young one. New to the intricacies of this world. The suffering, the politics, all of it went over his head. Perthro was a creature of instinct with a naturally childlike disposition, brimming with innocence and wonder.
  52.
  53. "Maybe I could understand, though." he pondered. Perthro certainly knew the emotions that Lyulf's humanity brought about. He could feel them radiating off of him. He felt the anguish, trauma, and even the deeper seated hatred.
  54.
  55. He could feel the pain of Lyulf's injury, too. Like he knew something was weighing the boy down, even before the wound was revealed. "I don't know! I guess I could try." He felt this desire to correct Lyulf's pain. As rare as it was to encounter a fae, that didn't mean they were selfish creatures. Some of them, at least.
  56.
  57. The fae fluttered closer to the withered arm, cupping his chin in thought. "Hmm. Hold still! A bit of fae magic will surely do the trick."
  58. (Perthro)
  59. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------
  60.
  61. [18:57] The youth's eyes rolled as the fae insinuated he was capable of learning to understand Humanity. To the young boy there was no way that the fae could. It just wasn't possible for them to grasp what it meant to be a mortal in a world that so often seemed to resent your existence. Magi perhaps had it better than most but Lyulf had only learned the arts of the Magi recently and well knew the struggles of the average person.
  62.
  63. "When you learn to see past the emotions and understand the logic behind them. Maybe then you'll at-least figure out how to pretend to be Human." The boy didn't hate the fae per se but he didn't believe they could be human. It was like a dog or a horse trying to become a person. Sure the animals could sense moves and even understand when a Human spoke but could they figure out how to be a person?
  64.
  65. No, they couldn't they could only be what they were. To him? A fae was what it was. Nothing more, nothing less. Which, as they declared they'd try to heal his arm? Well, the boy decided to give the fae a shot. A shot at being a fae! "I'll let you give it a shot. Not like it hurts to try." The boy sighed as he took a seat. His free hand unbuttoning the cloak and letting it fall to the side. He made sure not to sit on his Private Hat while he was letting the fae work on him.
  66.
  67. "It was cursed by a wraith of some kind. If you can't do anything I'll probably have it cut off and replaced with a magitech one." After all he wasn't about to live his life as a cripple.
  68. (Lyulf Yayle)
  69. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------
  70.
  71. [18:57] "Hmm? I'd never pretend to be a human. No offense, but it doesn't seem very appealing in the slightest. You're just all so interesting, and strange! I'd like to understand more. But, by no means do I plan to replicate what I find." Perthro was still very much in touch with his existence as a fae. Maybe to him, that would make humans like a dog or a horse.
  72.
  73. Oh, what a difference in perspective did. But, Perthro surely had the upper hand. He had hundreds of years to look forward to, Lyulf's existence was fleeting by comparison. Nevertheless! The butterfly returned to assessing his injury.
  74.
  75. "It certainly feels cursed.." Perthro noted. But, that was enough talking. All he could do now was act on instinct, and attempt to correct this blight on the lifstream and Lyulf's body. Perthro spread out his wings to their full length and fluttered them slowly, just enough to keep himself afloat.
  76.
  77. A rainbow of shifting lights reflected off of his translucent wings and onto Lyulf's withered arm, enveloping the limb with warmth. Specks of sparkling dust flowed forward from his wingspan.
  78.
  79. "And a one, and a two, and.." Perthro paused, strain evident on his features as he made a great effort to cleanse the curse. It wouldn't go away with any ordinary healing magic, it required a catalyst. He knew what he had to do. Color gradually returned to the teenager's skin, as the fairy winced.
  80.
  81. Miraculously, the injury was fully healed. But, it left the fairy exhausted, gasping for air. The creature teetered back and forth, 'stumbling' in his flight.
  82.
  83. "Good as new!"
  84. (Perthro)
  85. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------
  86.
  87. [18:57] Well, seeing the fae as some kind of twisted reflection of a scholar helped in Lyulf's view of them. After all that answer made sense to him! It felt more honest there was no idolization of humanity. It wasn't a learn what it means to be human it was learn what it is to be a human. Which, were greatly different things in the teens eyes.
  88.
  89. "You don't have to tell me that." Really? He knew it was cursed! He couldn't even move the damnable limb without pain. Not that it was Pertho's fault per se but Lyulf was an aggressive sort to begin with. Very in tune with his baser emotions even if he did put on a façade.
  90.
  91. Then he watched as the fae did what looked like a little dance to him. It was something strange and yet wondrous. He'd never seen magic actually cure the wound. It'd always at best aid in the healing process. This wasn't anything like that though. It was an outright curing of the ailment. A correction in the time-stream that caused his arm to return to its full potential.
  92.
  93. He pulled the limb away from the fae; raising it to the front of his face as he flexed the fingers. It was healed, fully restored! "By the Machine you did it. I didn't actually believe the old stories." He wasn't lying as he said that. To him those old tales were full of lies, twisted truths past down by delusional primitives.
  94.
  95. Then his gaze shifted towards Pertho, they were struggling it seemed. No doubt healing his limb had taken a lot out of him. It'd probably be a long while before the little fae could do something like that again or maybe not at all! He didn't know.
  96.
  97. "Your kind really are natural wonders. You've my appreciations." The boy brought a fist to thud against his chest. "I'm Lyulf, what do they call you?"
  98. (Lyulf Yayle)
  99. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------
  100. [18:57] Perthro eventually caught his breath, but he still looked fatigued. Indeed, it would be a while before he could do something like that again. It was more than he bargained for, but he was willing to take the consequences! Even still, it meant that he'd need to consider who to heal and who not to heal in the future.
  101.
  102. Unfortunately, he didn't have the time to alleviate the pain of everyone who needed it. Maybe this was another one of the many reasons why fairies avoided civilization.
  103.
  104. "Stories? I wasn't aware that we were such a big deal to you humans." Cold! But, very true for Perthro, at least. He hadn't witnessed the lengths greedy humans went to secure fairy dust yet. So young and innocent.
  105.
  106. "Hmm.. I normally don't tell people my name, but." This was different. He had felt Lyulf's pain, both emotionally and literally in taking the brunt of the boy's injury. As rare as it was to see a fairy in the wild, it was even rarer for one to give you it's name.
  107.
  108. "I suppose.. I can make an exception, just this once."
  109.
  110. Perthro looked left and right, to see if there were any listeners. Too many trees, someone could definitely be watching! To a fae, their name was truth. Trusting a human with it wasn't to be taken lightly. So, he spoke where only Lyulf could hear.
  111.
  112. In his own mind.
  113. (Perthro)
  114. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------
  115.
  116. [18:57] Perthro says in telepathy, My name is Perthro. It's our secret!
  117. [18:57] Lyulf's head bobbed in an acknowledgement to the fae's question. "Yes, our stories are what truly define us humans. Short lives makes the tales of the past all the more important." It was after-all the truth of it. He wasn't a scholar per se but he'd spent a great deal of his time self-educating. Mostly to get a leg up on his rivals and peers.
  118.
  119. As Pertho started to look around though? Well, Lyulf did as well! After all if he could spot a fairy from twenty yards away as they darted between bushes and trees? Good chance he'd spot someone else much larger trying to get close. No wonder he utilized a gun in a fight! Still, his search stopped as he felt a little tingling in his head.
  120.
  121. It was a strange feeling and honestly? Well, he didn't like it. It wasn't natural for communication to be handled that way. Though, he didn't hold that against Pertho. The fae was what the fae was after all. Still, now he held the name in his mind and the youth let out a laugh.
  122.
  123. "Hah! Warry of people knowing your name? Fine, I'll just use a nickname. Should we ever meet again." It wasn't often you met a fae in the wilds. It was less often you met the same fae in the wilds. Yet, the world was a strange place and such a thing could happen!
  124.
  125. "I've got some advice for you. Be wary of Humanity; especially those who wear the uniform I do." As he spoke he'd pull out his blackhat and show it to the fae. Symbols of Achyon were on clear display. "It'd be dangerous for you." He didn't go into why it would be but the warning felt genuine in the boys heart.
  126.
  127. He felt a debt had formed and he'd go about the steps to repay it.
  128. (Lyulf Yayle)
  129. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------
  130.
  131. [18:57] "I don't know why, but I get this feeling that my name is a very big deal. So, yes! Precisely correct. Between you and me, you're the first human to ever know me by mine."
  132.
  133. Why did he choose Lyulf in particular, to heal and trust with his name? He didn't even know. It probably all came down to circumstance, in reality. The whims of fate had made their paths intertwine.
  134.
  135. Perthro assessed the hat, and the symbols of Achyon. His first time seeing this imagery, other than on flags and signs. Truly, he was fortunate to have met Lyulf first before any of his comrades.
  136.
  137. "I will keep that in mind. Thank you, human Lyulf." he replied, not asking why. As curious as he was, Perthro loathed being in one place for too long! And, his time was running out.
  138.
  139. "I have to go! Goodbye."
  140. (Perthro)
  141. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------
  142.
  143. [18:57] "Make's sense to me. Name's have power." Lyulf didn't place much stock in the idea of true names but enough people in history had that he didn't exactly shrug it off. He didn't say anything as he let Pertho get a good look at the symbols if Achyon. The great Empire was something he'd already pledge himself in the service of and he saw corruption and evil everywhere but that's where he'd come in.
  144.
  145. He'd fix the Empire.
  146.
  147. "Flutter on then." He wasn't going to keep the fae anymore than he had. In truth this had been a very beneficial meeting for the young teen and it shifted his perception a little bit. The old stories were a little more accurate than some of the modern representations that'd been posted in the publications of the Empire. Fate was a strange thing but this day it seemed to have helped both of them out. In different ways but it had been a blessing none the less.
