  1. Kyoko - Last Thursday at 5:09 PM
  2. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
  3. A commlink crackle from the Dean's office. "Shade. Trial. I need you both. I don't want to call it a NHI, since that's what PCPD calls it when two black people shoot each other, but we've got a No Humans Involved incident that could really use some direct intervention."
  4. Hoshi - Last Thursday at 5:14 PM
  5. "...hello." Shade slips out of Alicia's shadow in less than thirty seconds. She wasn't doing anything of major consequence, really. Just some light reading. And she can slip into the shadows created by her costume and dress instantly. So, she's there in her thief's outfit, all leather and hooded.
  6. Kyoko - Last Thursday at 5:18 PM
  7. "Good, you're here first." Alicia says something to Shade in private before Miss Trial can appear. Because she's Alicia. It's a stealthy task she has to deny later on if it becomes discovered.
  8. The rest of the briefing can be handled via commlink. "You remember the Silens, right? The robot civilization Adam and WestStar were a part of?"
  9. Hoshi - Last Thursday at 5:25 PM
  10. "yes!"
  11. "...is this because of role playing games?"
  12. Kyoko - Last Thursday at 5:30 PM
  13. "... One of them mistook a drow for a Denebian." A Denebian? "Uh, space drow, same dimension as the Silens. They'd escaped from slavery on Deneb and Bismuth LorentzForceLaw - it's translated the best we can, I can't pronounce the symbols in English - thought they were a slave patrol there to recapture them. It, uh, it turned into a hostage situation."
  14. Hoshi - Last Thursday at 5:31 PM
  15. "oooooooooh...."
  16. "...are you sure i'm a good idea for this?"
  17. "give uh..."
  18. Kyoko - Last Thursday at 5:34 PM
  19. "PCPD doesn't particularly care if there's an interdimensional incident because it's not their problem. I do. Get there before they do."
  20. Hoshi - Last Thursday at 5:35 PM
  21. "....okay..." fidget fidget.
  22. Miss Trial - Last Thursday at 5:48 PM
  23. Ana had to take the long way around. She can go fast, flying down hallways, leaping across corridors, and just serving process like a champ. The seven foot something avatar of the state spoke steadily into her comm after abandoning her movie and while rushing through the halls. "It's just a misunderstanding, right? Should be easy enough to clear up."
  24. Hoshi - Last Thursday at 5:56 PM
  25. "i hope so."
  26. "it might not be though."
  27. Kyoko - Last Thursday at 5:57 PM
  28. "... Oh, and Bismuth is a veteran currently in a combat shell."
  29. Hoshi - Last Thursday at 5:59 PM
  30. "yeah, exactly."
  31. Kyoko - Last Thursday at 6:08 PM
  32. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
  33. Bismuth's 'house' is a squat bit of sturdy concrete construction on the outskirts of Pinnacle City. Outside, three robots, apparently part of Bismuth's increasingly worried family, are looking about. One seems to have the same body as WestStar (maybe it's a commercially available one?) but with different markings, another is a treaded robot with a circular head outfitted with a number of sensors you don't recognize, and the last one is a thick terminal with a screen display behind glass on wheels, currently being used to simulate a face (meant to look 'roboty' without falling into the uncanny valley, just like Adam's). The first two beep at you worriedly but the last one has English translation, thank goodness. "Are you the police?" And a vocoder advanced enough to express emotions! This one is expressing 'worry, alarm, and a sensation of impending doom.'
  34. Hoshi - Last Thursday at 6:09 PM
  35. "uh...sort of. we're superheroes."
  36. has slipped out of Trial's shadow.
  37. Miss Trial - Last Thursday at 6:15 PM
  38. Miss Trial arrives with her usual silent dignity. Flying up in front of the sun, letting the ends of her blindfold sway in the wind and her grey hair spread out to the sides before falling back into something more manageable. Her gavel hangs heavy in her hand. She tries to be distracting enough that Hoshi can show up without being super spotted. "What seems to be the problem here?" She looks at the house and gets ready to discover. Can she get a warrant?
  39. Hoshi - Last Thursday at 6:15 PM
  40. No. But she can probably get permission
  41. Which is good enough for the 4th Amendment.
  42. Miss Trial - Last Thursday at 6:16 PM
  43. That only works if it's their house and they have the authority to let someone search. "Do you all live here?"
  44. Kyoko - Last Thursday at 6:22 PM
  45. The tablet-bot's simulated 'head' nods. "Yes. My creator, Bismuth, was visiting to meet us, when they saw someone outside and appeared to trigger old combat routines." Great. Super. Robo-PTSD. This is exactly what you need right now. "They burst out, grabbed it - the person outside, and rolled back in." The door has been knocked off it's hinges from the inside and is lying on the homeowner's association-mandated lawn. Which is also awesome.
  46. Hoshi - Last Thursday at 6:24 PM
  47. "see? so...i'll see what he's doing inside...wish me luck" and then she slips into a shadow, moving to scout inside!
  48. Miss Trial - Last Thursday at 6:26 PM
  49. "Do you mind if I conduct a search?" Now didn't seem like the time to start talking about emergency exceptions. She rises into the air and tries to get some discovery from above. "Don't worry, we'll take it from here." Look at that, she can smile.
  50. Kyoko - Last Thursday at 6:27 PM
  51. "Please don't hurt them. They're - they're not themselves right now."
  52. Miss Trial - Last Thursday at 6:29 PM
  53. "Of course." Miss Trial nods. And let's see if that counts as consent enough for Discovery to work.
  54. Kyoko - Last Thursday at 6:30 PM
  55. Well, it does take a 'yes' from them, but you get one eventually.
  56. "Hey!" shouts the drow from inside the basement. "Hello? Do any of you out there speak English? Please?"
  57. It's hard to hear her over the sound of the nanolathe's printer grinding things out. Shade, there's an abandoned 'old'-looking mechanical body restraining said drow against the wall with four mechanical gripper arms. The body is completely inert and has an open hinge on the back where most of the processing hardware has been apparently scavenged. Scavenged for what?
  58. Why, to be put in the squat, dangerous tank-like body that is currently having a missile launcher installed on it by said nanolathe.
  59. Shade and Miss Trial can both see this. Miss Trial also has the opportunity to see police cars coming up. They'll be here in 20 seconds.
  60. Hoshi - Last Thursday at 6:32 PM
  61. Hey. Can Shade sabotage the launcher?
  62. If not though...
  63. She'll grab the Drow and get the hell out.
  64. Kyoko - Last Thursday at 6:33 PM
  65. You'll be visible for the time you run through that teleport. You'll also create a portal that the tank can follow you through.
  66. Hoshi - Last Thursday at 6:33 PM
  67. Okay!
  68. Sabotage it is! Shade'll invisible-attack...the launcher.
  69. She'll try and get it and disable the entire mechanism of putting it on the robutt.
  70. Kyoko - Last Thursday at 6:37 PM
  71. Focusing, you form the bow out of the shadows behind the machine (always good to keep them guessing), and fire off a shot.
  72. The shadowy arrow 'plinks' off the missile launcher, having roughly the same result that it does whenever someone shoots Cerulean with a gun.
  73. It does, however, completely distract Bismuth, causing him to spin all of his weapons towards where the arrow was coming from. Now's your chance!
  74. Miss Trial - Last Thursday at 6:41 PM
  75. "Please don't blow up their house, Shade." Miss Trial sighs. "The police are almost here, so at least do it fast." Miss Trial points that last part at the family of robots- in case they have their own reasons for making themselves scarce. "Please give us a chance to deal with this before you let them start shooting or doing something else rash." She lands outside the door and rushes in on foot. Gotta get the drow out of there and prevent an explosion.
  76. Hoshi - Last Thursday at 6:42 PM
  77. Hm! Enough time to grab the drow and flee?
  78. Kyoko - Last Thursday at 6:45 PM
  79. If you're quick about it.
  80. Hoshi - Last Thursday at 6:47 PM
  81. WELl
  82. LETS BE QUICK ABOUT IT
  83. Shade whips forward. She's on the Drow in less than a second. And through the portal less than a second later, tumbling outside. "he's got a missile launcher! and is a taaaaaank!"
  84. Miss Trial - Last Thursday at 6:52 PM
  85. "Well." Miss Trial twirls her gavel, closing the gap between her and the tank with all reasonable speed. "Please, this all a misunderstanding. Put the weapons down and come up. I'll make sure they go easy on you."
  86. Th-that's not a threat. Yet. She's trying to be reasonable.
  87. Kyoko - Last Thursday at 7:04 PM
  88. The tank roars out of the shadow of the building chasing after Shade a few moments later. Shade screams quietly.
  89. Hoshi - Last Thursday at 7:07 PM
  90. "aaaaaaaah! @_@"
  91. "...." Okay. She's done screaming quietly. She's going to...get the drow out of here. Probably. Crap crap crap craaaaap.
  92. Maybe it'll continue chasing.
  93. ....Maybe she can trap it in some water.
  94. Miss Trial - Last Thursday at 7:15 PM
  95. "I can handle the tank, Shade. Get the drow somewhere safe!"
  96. Hoshi - Last Thursday at 7:16 PM
  97. "right!" ...The drow is promptly somewhere else. With Shade. Probably about a mile away, Somewhere safe though!
  98. Miss Trial - Last Thursday at 7:26 PM
  99. Miss Trial rushes upstairs. Time to protect and maybe a little serve. "Freeze!" She shouts. Sheets of parchment swirl from nowhere and glom onto the missile launcher. Just a whack with the gavel to put a lien on the launcher!
  100. The pages glow green. The launcher whirs to a stop- and with a healthy ding in the side. "Alright, you're no longer a threat. Please, we can talk about this."
  101. Kyoko - Last Thursday at 7:38 PM
  102. There's some angry beeping and some other panicked beeping. Ugh, you really need to bring someone with you who speaks radio.
  103. Then Bismuth attempts to run Miss Trial over.
  104. Miss Trial - Last Thursday at 7:46 PM
  105. Miss Trial stands on precedent. The sound of a gavel clacking underscores the fact that she simply doesn't have to move if she doesn't want to. And right now, she's trying to carry on a conversation. She calls to the front yard in the hopes that the innocent bystanders haven't been driven away by the impending violence and police. "Is there a translator in the area?"
