it is no joking matter to play with someone's personal information. it is a value that this site holds is important, and the fact that we are serious about protecting it is backed officially and legally.

nobody should be playing around with it. if you're not absolutely clear that someone is ok with certain information being put in public retained internet chat, it is better to ask and confirm first.

nobody should take this lightly. and especially not a host. a host's main responsibility is to make sure site policies are followed, and also to make sure that people feel comfortable and welcome. if someone expresses the slightest uncertainty or ambiguity, you should take that as a no, and offer options to make them feel safer. even if it is inconvenient to you. that is the minimum sort of thing that being a host requires.
