archer is a police officer who lives with/looks after his younger brother shirou, who is a university student.

shinji is a prostitute. cu is his "older brother" figure and they have a close relationship.

archer is actually very familiar with cu, having shooed him away from his police box on numerous occasions and threatened him with fines and arrest. cu treats their relationship as a comical "cat and mouse" type of back-and-forth, while archer is much more serious about the dangers of cu's line of work.

one day while shirou is studying at a coffee shop, he sees shinji sitting at a table. he's typing away on his phone, completely engrossed in what he's doing to the point that it looks as if his tea has gone cold. it's pretty crowded in the shop, so shirou clears his throat and asks if he can sit with him. looking up from his screen as if he were about to sneer, shinji suddenly becomes wide-eyed and nods in response. he thinks shirou is really cute ;;

they chat a little bit and while shinji is still a little guarded and attached to his phone, shirou is open and friendly. shinji learns his name and that he's an engineering major at the local university, but sometimes he wishes he had gone into a culinary program. by the time shirou finishes his large cup of coffee he gestures to shinji's long-since cold cup of tea and offers to buy him another.

shinji lets him.

he also starts coming to that cafe in particular just for the chance to see shirou again. they have casual coffee not!dates for about two weeks while shirou very blatantly goes through the motions of "oh gosh i think a boy is cute what do i do about this" and shinji loves every minute of it. he is getting worried that his feelings about shirou could progress beyond playful, but that line of thought not welcome at all. ;;

one night when shirou is getting on the train, he passes shinji getting off of the train with an older man. something about it seems strange and when shirou calls out to him, shinji doesn't answer. rather, he gives shirou a knowing and somewhat apologetic glance before walking away. they both feel sick for the rest of the night, and that's when they know their feelings are going to be a Problem.

the next day, shinji sits at the cafe from the moment it opens, having not been able to sleep all night. shirou walks in and is immediately both relieved and upset to see him there. but they sit down and they talk it out. shinji tries to explain enjou kousai in a way that makes him sound like a venture capitalist, but it doesn't really work out that way. shirou knows from archer that people don't do things like that unless they feel like they don't have any other way to turn, which starts to make all of these protective feelings start to churn inside him.

their conversation ends amicably, if not a little bit emotionally. there is definite remorse from shinji over having shirou find out by seeing him on a date. hearing shirou mention it with a twinge of jealousy in his voice, however, might have made it worth it. eventually shinji reaches across the table and brushes his fingers against shirou's, saying he would like to go on a Real date sometime.

shirou knows he's in so much trouble.

they start seeing each other when their schedules allow and they exchange numbers. shirou figures out eventually that when shinji is on his phone at the coffee shop, he's actually /at work/ chatting up potentially clients and setting up dates or taking selfies/videos to post. sometimes shirou is doing his homework while shinji is working across from him on the table and playfully dragging his foot up and down his leg.

shirou really likes shinji! he doesn't like what he does, but he also tries not to pass judgment against it. there's a lot he doesn't understand, though. finding the right time to ask questions can be kind of difficult, and sometimes shinji gets really guarded about it. the past isn't exactly shinji's favorite topic, so any time things begin to progress into that territory he tries to derail it by getting physically affectionate with shirou instead. typically that works. ;;

that's all i've got!! i was just interested in a modernized take on a prostitution au since we don't have one and shinji and shirou trying to handle emotions and Wanting To Be Together even when everything is a mess. PROTECTIVE OLDER BROTHER ARCHER who also wants to serve and protect others in need! and potentially past tales of crime families and human trafficking and casniki/taniki/demiya being not nice guys.

oh and archer inevitably adopting two hookers. maybe one he has the hots for.
