The Land of Birds

Crested Ones. The Righteous Children from the Sky Beyond. Throne-Bearers, Song-Masters, Speakers of the Vast Truth. All names refer to the same species of beings, born in emptiness and journeying into the material plane.

These beings visited a lost land once, called Marea. Ten of them. Seven Children of Aoro, the Bird-Lords, mythical Crested Ones who took the shape of bird-like beings, to cement their image onto the world. And three others. The Dark Drinker, the Night Witch and the Leviathan.

These beings brought the power of magic to the world, and mutated many races of beings, to fit their new domains. Thus, the end result is that the world of Marea, went from what it once was, an inhospitable rock, into a peaceful land of magic and serenity. At least, for a while. The Bird Lords and the other three were content to leave the world aside, and ascend the Tall Ladder, a vast tower - structure they constructed on an abandoned island, far from civilization, in order to ascend back into their home, the Emptiness.

All except one. The Night Witch did not ascribe to this idea, so she swore to use her dread power, to alter the world of Marea forever.
To combat the threat of the Night Witch's curse, seven agents were sent from the emptiness, at the behest of the Bird Lords. The Watchers. But the bodies made for the Watchers to manifest themselves, cast in the invincible Weave, were stolen, or broken. Without bodies to inhabit, the Watchers must rely on human targets, and bind themselves to them.

You... are one such Vessel.
