- ---
- There are 3 patterns of verb+infinitive:
- 1 verb + infinitive (no object): I forgot to lock the door.
- - These verbs can’t include a different person doing the action.
- 2 verb + noun + infinitive (always object): I encourage my students to practice at home.
- - These verbs must include a person (or thing) doing the action.
- (If the agent is the same as the subject, use reflexive pronouns: I encouraged myself to do it.)
- 3 verb + (object) + infinitive: I asked to open the window. / I asked her to open the window.
- - These verbs may or may not include another agent.
