I'm at a crossroads where I need to decide if I'm going to build my own PBN (5-10 sites) or just purchase 20-30 PBN links every month.

Have you purchased many PBN links? They almost all suck, and the PBN sites on which you purchase links tend to disappear or degrade over time. With your own PBN you have control to keep it in good condition.
If you are renting monthly, the quality is likely to stay better, but you still can’t control who else they are renting to. If the quality of the rented sites goes down, then you need to replace all those links... that’s risky if you have them pointing at a money site that’s finally ranking well. Then you’re trapped: leave it as is because it’s working, but risk things going to shit, or try to replace them, but that’s even riskier since you don’t want to lose rankings.
I personally hate renting PBN links since if they work I’m then completely trapped/at the mercy of the guy who owns the PBN.
So, yeah, if you have the money to buy good domains and maintain them, it’s a way better solution.

$3 to $4 i doubt it. If you want to maintain quality, it's going to cost more. But the results will be way better than other PBN sellers.

a real pbn use the best backlinking from 1k to 10k links .
pbn are qualty not quanty these days .

a real pbn domain is over $600 easly
you can use cheap services but there not quilty pbn, your be lucky to get any real effect being honest on a hard keyword , money keyword

How many links, what metrics were the sites and how much?
People see the word PBN and think buying 20 links @ $1 will solve all their ranking problems.

a pbn has to be updated each month with new articles and backlinks to keep it looking natrual that around $20 to $300 /m , the server around $20 month .
i use a rss methods on semi auto using iftt

I have tried links and they all have sucked majestically.
The problem right now is that i cant manage to find any niche or related expired domains which haven't been used for some Chinese Pokemon shit in the past.
I suggest you find a good vendor who charge PBN links on monthly based. If you dont have experience in building own pbn, do not go for it.
There are few good suppliers in marketplace, go and check it out.

almost all the links I bought are shit. Go for your own PBNTBH, it all depends on how you're going to work and there is no right or wrong answer.
I currently rent PBN links because I know I will eventually stop renting them in the future and replace them with "white-hat" links.
However, building your own PBN may be for you, if you can't find vendors selling PBN links in your niche and you have the budget and know how to build them.
