No, everyone can have an opinion, but when Deuceler says "I quite [sic] thinking about this long ago" when I tried asking a question about this, only to resume being smarmy on twitter when everyone else jumps in, its clear y'all don't want to talk about it, so stop blowing up my notifications just to ignore my points.

The GDQ has always been a hybrid event. However it existed in the past, it is now #1 a charity vehicle and #2 a speedrunning event. That means that sometimes speedrunning adjacent things will get in because of general relevance and that's okay. Tetris got in. Stepmania got in. Mystery tournament got in. TAS block's shenanigans got in. If you take issue with those, that's fine, but this is just yet another thing on that list. But it wasn't but a few years ago when GDQ was in the era of picking a random game to submit to a GDQ, then hastily learn to run it in the time between submissions and the event, so the THIS IS DISRESPECTFUL TO PEOPLE WHO whatever rings insincere.

None of you are jerks for having the opinion that this is a weird fit. And I understand (and disagree) with the argument that this means some NES game gets a shoddy time slot. If your game got stuck in graveyard, there are certainly more factors than a 40 min out of 168 hours (0.3% again, to spare you the math) showcase. Maybe the run sucked to watch. Or maybe there are more factors involved and life is perhaps more nuanced.

And finally, calling the game a meme and saying that this submission is offensive to people who actually put effort into their runs... considering Darkman has organized a similar showcase to this one several years running and has successfully performed it at two co-located marathons means that he has actually put more time into this than quite a few other runners have. I spent a few nights on Titenic. Plenty of other runs get in on their appeal without having to draw a graph between time invested and worthiness for the high honor of the GDQ stage.

I'm not going to convince you guys of anything, and I don't expect to. I just wanted to discuss the points, and every time I ask questions or talk about it, I'm getting blown off, so whatever. You do you, but I expected better than talking down to other people because you don't like their submissions.
