Everybody knows the health effects of food content such as fat, protein, carbohydrates and sodium, but very few know what TDS is and how it applies to the water that we drink every day.

We here at AquaGrade.com strive to promote good, clean drinking water and hope to one day see the eradication of bottled water from supermarket shelves, cafes and restaurants.

AquaGrade.com is based in Los Angeles, where we started our testing, but is now spreading nationally. During the course of our research we discovered some interesting facts which we will be talking about in our blog.

The explosion in popularity of “pure” bottled water in recent years is strikingly apparent. Watch a jogger pause to drink his or her bottle of Evian water. See the television ads and the supermarket shelves brimming with various brands of bottled water claiming to be sourced from the pristine “alpine springs of Norway”… see the bottles discarded in the gutter and choking our beaches.

The fact is, despite their blaring health claims, bottled water is feeding the petrochemical industry which is in turn, greatly contributing to carbon emissions and climate change. A few facts to think about:

3.4 mega-joules are used in the production of ONE bottle of water. That equates to using just over a quarter of a gallon of fuel in your car.

31.2 BILLION liters of bottled water are sold annually in the USA - that's approx. 8 billion gallons of fuel being burnt and released into the atmosphere.

Only 33% of these bottles are recycled.

It takes 2 liters of water to produce 1 liter of bottled water.

And don't forget the carbon emissions associated with the transport of these products. Most of them are imported which adds to the consumption of fossil fuels.

Another interesting finding of AquaGrade.com is that some of the major brands of bottled water have a higher TDS level than average tap water.

The mission of AquaGrade.com is to arm people with practical knowledge and the statistics they need to make informed choices when it comes to their health, the health of their families, and the health of our environment.

The first step is to reduce the need to purchase over-processed, bottled water.

If you go to a restaurant and know that the quality of the water is well within the stringent USA health standards, it eradicates the need to purchase bottled water.

The mission of AquaGrade.com is to inform people about the quality of the water they are drinking, and that not all water is created equal.

Water is a necessity for life and the fact is, people just don't know a lot about it.
