  1. So NASA 2017 was a fucking blast.
  2.
  3. Getting there was a bit of a mess as my parents took a thousand dollars from me a few weeks before the event and I had to borrow $700 from Cyberdemon531 to go (which I ended up not needing because I stumbled ass-backward into getting an old job back).
  4.
  5. Anyways, I live in Atlanta and I drove to the event. I took I-75 N and drove 13 hours in one day while listening to It’s audiobook with very few stops to meet up at TyPls’s place for a day. We spent the first night driving around his town of Saginaw, MI, where he gave me a tour of the area. Next day we hit up game stores and I got Donkey Kong Jungle Beat for a really good price. That night we went to Evolve Wrestling in Detroit. It was my first ever wrestling show and it was pretty neat, though I wasn’t sure how it compared to other shows (Ty said it was really good so I’ll trust him). I dropped Ty back off at his place and that night drove to Oakland, ON.
  6.
  7. I was driving at the dead of night and I had times where I didn’t see another car for 10 minutes. Spooky.
  8.
  9. I was about 2 miles from the border when I got pulled over for speeding off an exit ramp. I spaghetti’d hard with the cop as I had to explain what speedrunning was and that even though I was running in a marathon I wasn’t literally running. Luckily I got off with the lightest of warnings, and then it was off to the border.
  10.
  11. I was a bit nervous at crossing the border, but after about 5 minutes of acting like a polite sperg to the border guard I was let through.
  12. Canada’s roads are weird. The rural roads are completely straight lines for dozens of miles and the speed limits are very low, and after driving 80+ MPH for 2 hours it was hard to adapt for a bit. One cool thing is that when there is roadwork the construction signs tell you exactly what the hazard is and what to do.
  13.
  14. I was about an hour into Canada when I had to go to the bathroom. It was 3 AM and there was literally nothing open for 10 miles around me, and after a 45 minute quest searching for an open gas station I just peed on the road.
  15.
  16. I got to the hotel around 5 AM and the first thing I saw were a bunch of accordion players making a racket with signing and merriment. I didn’t know if they were speedrunners or not but after an hour of waiting in the lobby I saw Therio’s giant frame walk through the door. I greeted him and after a bit of a debacle trying to find my room (everyone was asleep and wouldn’t tell me the number) we managed to unlock the practice room where I unpacked my stuff and set it up. I played System Shock until breakfast opened, after which I passed out in a vacant Euro Crew room.
  17.
  18. I got up around 3 PM and said hi to people and met new people in the practice room. That day was just chilling and recalibrating myself after long hours of driving. That night I ate some udon alone at a sushi place then joined Slucky, Bingchang, and others once they walked in. We had a fun conversation about N64 speedruns and it was a good dinner.
  19.
  20. Next morning I got up and spent some time watching AKC12 play F-Zero GX and we talked about speedrunning and dedication to a single game. I didn’t do too much that day because my prostate stuff starting acting up and I had to soak in a hot bath for 90 minutes. I did however make it for Therio’s SADX run which was incredible and a giant shitfest in the crowd.
  21.
  22. Next day I watched Marvel Land, which is always a treat, then ran System Shock. It was pretty good but I wasn’t too practiced and I had some really weird mistakes. After, Bingchang and Sluckly and I went to a mall to get a video cable I needed for No More Heroes (I forgot to pack mine). We then drove around a bit looking for CRT TVs with no luck.
  23.
  24. Next day I took the JSRF kids to a game store 45 minutes away. We had a fun drive and a fun time shopping and everyone walked away with good stuff. My memory is fuzzy, but that night me, AKC12, ShadowJacky, and 1 F-Zero GX girl whose name I can’t remember had a fantastic dinner with hot sake and conversation about pretty much everything.
  25.
  26. I went to sleep early for No More Heroes and sadly had to miss Far Cry 3, which by all accounts was a once-in-a-lifetime experience that I’m very sad I missed.
  27.
  28. No More Heroes started out well and continued to be fun though slightly lonely. MASH, ShadowJacky, and DarkAries were the few consistent viewers so bless them for sticking around for 3+ hours of that game. Holly Summers had some insane glitches happen which was incredible to experience. Around Bad Girl, the /srg/ crowd shuffled in and we had a gay old time as I beefed it to Bad Girl 3 times going for really ballsy strats. Anyways I finished my run and had a great time.
  29.
  30. Lurk’s ZAMN was next and that was a fun run though honestly I don’t remember too much besides him not getting owned.
  31. The rest of the day I spent chilling and not doing too much.
  32.
  33. The next day was casually hanging with people and not much else. I watched Hydro Thunder Hurricane and had a great time then went to sushi again with MASH and TwoWorlds, expecting the /srg/ crew to be there, but they went to another sushi place (the hotel was pretty based to have 2 of those places to choose from close by). SkeletonBill showed up halfway through (followed by DarkAries and another tech boy). It was a great meal with great friends (and I also learned that if you want to kill Bad Bill just feed him an avocado and he’ll die).
  34.
  35. Next day was bonus stream and Doshin. It was a shitfest and I had the run become impossible to complete so I just turned into Jashin and owned everyone. After that I packed up, said my goodbyes, and started the drive home (which was uneventful and melancholy).
