  1.
  2. Arthur Rowan says, "--No need to sit that far. Especially when we don't have that many students to begin with."
  3.
  4. Akio Karasu says, "mmm... front... too far.."
  5.
  6. Arthur Rowan asks, "Too far?"
  7. Akio had his chin on the desk. The lazy boy looks Arthurs way and then he blinks slowly. He was the only one here today? The boy felt like he had missed a teen event.
  8. (Akio Karasu)
  9.
  10.
  11. Akio Karasu says, "Mhmm.."
  12.
  13. Akio Karasu says, "don't wanna walk.."
  14. It isn't exactly a surprise to him that he isn't going to be teaching a large audience.
  15.
  16. He remembers the older days of Academy, how many people with virtually no purpose to them would come around and study things they would never dabble in, just for the sake of studying and nothing else. But this time? Such people were not allowed. Only those that had at least some promise of joining Valmasia would be educated, and the rest are thrown out since they hold no promise to them.
  17.
  18. But that does not discourage him, not at all. It's best to have a single student that has a promise, rather than ten but with none.
  19.
  20. The gaze of Adjudicator drifts towards Akio. While he does not enjoy the particular laziness, for he personally knows that there's no time to be lazy while dabbling in Necromancy, he does not scold him; maybe in time that would be corrected, and besides, everyone has their own bad days. Perhaps that's one of these.
  21.
  22. --Though, another arrival is noted, before Arthur speaks.
  23.
  24. "We'll begin with the basics."
  25.
  26. "There are four components that are either essential to resurrecting someone, or contain large importance to the process. These components, or body parts, can never be neglected if you hope to grasp that."
  27.
  28. "Does any of you know what these components are?"
  29. (Arthur Rowan)
  30.
  31. Perhaps a tad bit late, she slithers into the front row seat, trying to look as impossibly small as she could as to not draw too much attention to her arrival- which was an odd thing to do considering her seat of choice was up front and personal. Hands within her lap, she quietly glances about the.. School room, fingers interlocked with one another before Arthus began to speak up.
  32.
  33. "Uhh.. I can.. Try and guess!"
  34.
  35. Her downfall was inevitable, for as strong as she was, she lacked knowledge- and had only done the slightest of research into Soul Transference. The state of a body had never been looked at, lips pressed together tightly as if in thought.
  36.
  37. Four components..
  38.
  39. "The.. Head, the Brain, the Heart..." She mumbles, scratching at her cheek and looking a lot less certain than she should considering her position. "T-..That's a guess, though I'm.. I'm not sure what they'd be- maybe the Soul too. Yeah that.."
  40.
  41. It was a haphazard guess. Her eyes darting away as if she fully expecting some form of chastising for her assumptions.
  42. (Velara Vetalie)
  43.
  44. Akio stares blankly at Arthur. The boy didn't hear much of what was being said. He lifts his head and stretches his neck. He then looks to Velara.
  45. The boy didn't know anything about these four components, nor did he know the basics. In his mind he didn't know where to even begin.
  46.
  47. He then listens to Velara's response, trying to jot down some notes. The boy yawned. He repeated some of the things she said to himself, trying to beat it into his memory. He then looks up toward Arthur. He had already shaken his head no. He figured Velara's response was good to proceed.
  48. (Akio Karasu)
  49.
  50. The door creaks open, swiftly, quietly, a drakenite slips into the room, and wishing not to cause too much of a disturbance finds himself a seat.
  51. (Alder Blackthorne)
  52.
  53. At least one of them was pro-active.
  54.
  55. A simple nod is offered towards Velara in acknowledgement of her response, before he adds to what she's been saying- while her answer was partially correct, neither student will learn anything if they won't hear it from him first.
  56.
  57. "You've almost got it correct."
  58.
  59. "The main parts of the body that are necessary for resurrection are, in fact, head and brain, which can be treated as same-- then heart, because it helps to spread the liquid and mana through circuits on metaphysical level, then stomach, because it contains much of the said mana - and spine, because it's directly responsible for the motor function."
  60.
  61. "These four components are necessary in order to resurrect someone without any issues. Do note, however, it is still possible to resurrect someone, let's say, without their heart or stomach - it will cause issues, but you cannot bring someone back without their head."
  62.
  63. "At least, not the person you expect to come back."
  64.
  65. There's a pause, and he notes another arrival. His eyesight traces towards Alder for a moment, before he continues.
  66.
  67. "Are any of you familiar with how process of resurrection goes?" - he asked, tracing his eyesight. It's important to gauge the abilities of each and every of them, after all.
  68. (Arthur Rowan)
  69.
  70. There is a moment of trepidation in the young man's gaze, but figuring it best to be honest in these situations he ponders for a moment before speaking
  71.
  72. "Uhm.. No sir. Tis my first class and though I am familiar with some of the subject matter, the process of bringing someone back is alltogether new to me. All beit I did hypothesise much on the matter in my own time, I don't believe I've nay the functional knowledge that you possess on the matter. Though if I had to hazzard a guess it involves a long and grueling process that ultimately boils down to forcibly reconnecting the soul of the deceased to their body, and it's more functional parts. Hence why the head and brain are important, and for more experimental and there for higher level of necromancy the more of the body you have in tact, the better. Though I would even hazzard to guess that there are many kinks to work out, especially for sentient creatures. Mayhaps lapses in the memory might be a problem, as well as bringing someone back in the whole sense, meaning not just making a shambling meat puppet. TO bring somoene back fully, in the sense that it is as though they'd never had died, I'd say it would take years or decades of thurough research and a full understanding of the subject in question. At least that would be my best guess on the matter."
  73. (Alder Blackthorne)
  74.
  75. A slow rubbing at her jaw as she listened. Heart, Head, Stomach, Spine. She'd only thought of the symbolic message, not the truly physical nature of necromancy. Considering her desires retaining to Soul Transference it was.. Likely not that much of a surprise. Her lips pressed together in thought, before the cosmic mage drums her fingers lightly against her arm.
  76.
  77. Her eyes shut for a moment and her head tilts upwards- as if she was trying to remember something that wasn't quite her own, a quiet and firm press of her lips as she murmurs.
  78.
  79. "It may help, having someone or something close by that is tied to the person... In, some way. Something special and intimate, and then it's like.. Like.."
  80.
  81. She reaches upwards as if to grab at something before swiping at little more than air. Eyes fluttering open.
  82.
  83. "Not sure! Other than that bit." It almost seemed slightly faux, as if she believed she knew more than what she was letting on.
  84. (Velara Vetalie)
  85.
  86. Akio looks at Arthur, another question he didn't know. He would simply take notes this class. He could probably teach his little sister at home so she would know some of these things before attending.
  87.
  88. The boy remained silent, all that could be heard was his pencil racing across his notebook.
  89. (Akio Karasu)
  90.
  91. In reality, the process was much more simple than that, though it required a great deal of capability when it comes to manipulation of the mana; it's why the body was so important in Necromancy, because it always served as a physical link for the soul to return. And if there isn't one? The Necromancer in question is out of luck to be able to retrieve the soul easily.
  92.
  93. "It's all about channelling the mana into circuits of the dead body, and slowly causing the soul back inside. You were interested in Soul Transference, Velara - this is the first step to it, since you force the soul to come back to the body."
  94.
  95. With a snap of a finger, the undead brought out boxes and placed them on desks infront of each student. Should they peer inside of it, there's a dead rodent - a rat, seemingly killed with poison, since there's no clear afflicting to the body.
  96.
  97. "Now, you'll attempt to bring back the dead animal. Their circuits are small, and even with your mana potency they should be easy to handle."
  98.
  99. "Begin channelling your mana into the circuitry of the dead rats infront of you. Maintain a steady pace. If you'll go too slow, the soul will not return to the body. If you'll go too quick, then you'll overload the circuitry and fry them."
  100.
  101. "Try to find balance in the speed. I'll observe each of you and provide notes, depending on how successful you are."
  102. (Arthur Rowan)
  103.
  104. A little bit of bouncing in her seat, sometimes it was hard to hold back the giddy excitement. Knowledge, seemed.. Surprisingly important to the youth, there was an almost obsessive way that she'd stare at Arthur, as if she were trying to read his expressions through the mask- and failing miserably to do so. Yet when the corpses of small rodents were provided, she'd stare at it with hints of uncertainty.
  105.
  106. A slow tap of her fingers along the corners of the rat, in near perfect shape. Now how, to go about it was the big question, lips pressed together as she stared at it blankly.
  107.
  108. Channeling your mana...
  109.
  110. Metaphysical mana was her forte, why not begin there? Fingers pressed against the rodents forehead, tracing down along the rat's spine before shifting it over onto its back and tapping a spindly, inhuman digit against the rodent's chest quietly.
  111.
  112. Slowly, the metaphysical magic began to seep from her skin, her eyes partially shut as she tried to keep her mana.. Focused and concise. Yet all that came with it was a slight.. Little twitch of the rodent's leg was what she got.
  113.
  114. Lips pressed together, she rolled the rodent around on the desk a few times. Maybe she needed to try a different approach... So close, yet so, so unbelievably far.
  115.
  116. "What am I doing wrong.. Mmm.."
  117. (Velara Vetalie)
  118.
  119. Slowly, genlty the Drakenite reaches into the box, taking hold of the dead rat. He'd slowly let his fingers run through it's fur, petting it, though he knew it were dead, he was gentle with it, placing it upon the table and letting his hand rest upon it, before slowly, a sickly green miasmatic mist rolls from his sleeve, surrounding the creature, slowly seeping into the rat's body as the dim black light that hid just behind his gentle gaze begins to grow, his reptillian eyes now covered in shadow as he'd mutter something to himself, quietly, calmly, before finally small almost whisp like threads form from his fingers attatching themselves to the rat. He brings his hand back slowly, pulling a white almost etherial orb from the small body, he clutches it in the palm of his hand before his other hand reaches out, blue threads coursing from his finger tips to the rat's form, for a moment it makes the body twitch and tingle, his paws curling inwards involuntarily as it's form grows tense. Gently, slowly, he lets the etherial orb slip back into the body, it shivers, it quivers, but in time it's eyes open, the small creature shakily taking to it's feet and looking up towards the man. Who reaches down, and pets it, a soft and gentle smile settling upon his lips.
  120. (Alder Blackthorne)
  121.
  122. Akio places his hands on the table, one hand on the rats head, the other touching its tail. The boy began to think about a surge of electricity going through a wire. He was the energy.
  123.
  124. His hands began to glow blue, he sent his ethereal energy through the rats skull. First he would attempt to properly circulate his mana. The rats body looked as if it were glowing, like it had worms within its veins. Slow moving bits of blue trailed through vital organs and its veins. He seemed calm, and patient. His hands were unmoving, he didn't want to disconnect his leads. The mana was making its way toward the tip of the tail, mana flow here wasn't as prominent as it was in the body. The tail was very thin, the boy focuses his right hand, preparing to redirect his mana back toward the front.
  125.
  126. Simulating a full cycle of his mana through its body. The boy then sped the process up. He was doing good, now toying with sending in abnormal amounts of mana to represent pulses, trying to kick start the organs.
  127.
  128. B-bmp. . . B-bmp. . . Bmp.. bmp.. bmp.. bmp.. bmp..
  129.
  130. The rats heart was first, he needed it to pump blood in unison with his mana flowing through its body. The slow and steady beat, catching up with the rate of speed that his mana was going at. The boy then sent more of these pulses toward the brain.
  131.
  132. His left hand glowed a bit brighter, but the energy that was coursing through the rat remained the same as before. With his pointer finger, he begins to create a new flow of mana on the tip of his finger. He boops the rat on the head, trying to wake the brain to communicate with the rest of the body. It was after all, the head of this operation.
  133.
  134. Akio watches as the body begins to come to life in a functional way, whether he succeeded or not was unclear to him.
  135. (Akio Karasu)
  136.
  137. It appears as if almost everyone could handle it. First Akio's, and then Alder's, the rodents were rising up from the grip of death and coming back to the living- while it was arguably not a great feat at all, to the beginners that would study Necromancy, it was quite the leap of a progress. Surely, they will do better in the future, won't they?
  138.
  139. "Well done."
  140.
  141. Though, with a pause, he turns his gaze towards Velara the moment he hears a hushed whisper that almost pleads for an answer as to what she's doing wrong. She hasn't been performing that bad even - Arthur remembers his own beginning of the path of Necromancer, and how the rat exploded in gory death right in his face.
  142.
  143. Oh, those were the days...
  144.
  145. "Try again, Velara."
  146.
  147. "Don't pressure yourself into succeeding right away. My first 'patient' actually exploded in my face, you know?" - a lowly, muffled chuckle, before he continues speaking, - "Do not hurry yourself. Look--"
  148.
  149. "Attempt to fuel the vital organs that I've described first. Spread the mana through the rodent's head, down to his heart, then his stomach, and then his spine. After that, steadily allow for the flow of mana through the rest of circuitry."
  150.
  151. "It's like a floodgate, and you control the switch."
  152. (Arthur Rowan)
  153.
  154. "Start from the vital organs.. And really it- exploded? That sounds like quite an adventure." Right, she'd tried to just kind of.. Force her mana into it- yet at the same time she'd also take in a slow, deep breath, and opt for another, more invigorating and healthy source. If anything was proven about Velara, it was.. Her apt talent with the Metaphysical, and how she utilized it viscerally rather than for healing or helping.
  155.
  156. No time heals, no soothing songs, just decay, and twisted jingles.
  157.
  158. A slow release of air was followed as the cosmos were slowly reached for, metaphorically of course, a soft, somber and dull, wispy golden glow emitting around the edges of her skin, fingers slowly guiding towards the rat once more. A slender, spindly digit soon easing across the deceased Rat's scalp.
  159.
  160. The mana begins to ease forward, to think she was using a star for such a corrupting fashion, coerced perhaps to her whim as it flowed freely, light glossy sparkles flashing along the Rat's scalp.
  161.
  162. Emulation of life, the mana borrowed from the cosmos was slowly shifted through the rodent's leylines, it was.. So much easier to control it, to be a sort of 'catalyst' for the star's mana to properly siphon through, rather than the explosively violent energies she normally played with.
  163.
  164. From the head, towards the heart, shudders down the spine and churning within the stomach. The rodent twitched, spasmed erratically- it was less than perfect, unfortunately. But it was.. Moving, somewhat moving. Mostly in odd, awkward and disjointed twitches and clacking of its little teeth.
  165.
  166. Velara merely staring at the glossy beady black eyes with a mixture of fascination and mild amusement.
  167.
  168. (Velara Vetalie)
  169.
  170. That's better than no result at all.
  171.
  172. Perhaps these that were right here studying the Necromancy would make up for Valmasia's future, perhaps not- but it's still worth a try educating them with something that was established as a sign of Valmasian culture. With that behind their shoulders? At least, Arthur could be certain that they will not find themselves on the opposites.
  173.
  174. "Good. Very good."
  175.
  176. Another snap of finger, and the undead carried inside another set of boxes. This time, it had tiny, faintly glowing rocks inside that emanated aura. It seems that one could channel even more, if they choose to do so - but other than that, the responsibility for their work lies on them.
  177.
  178. "Consider this your homework."
  179.
  180. "These crystals are capable of accepting mana surges into them, and you'll be working on perfecting your mana flow. Before you can resurrect the dead efficiently, before youcan even hope to move onto advanced things such as Soul Transfer, your work with mana must become nigh perfect."
  181.
  182. "If you got the channel right, then the crystal will begin glowing bright green. If you got it wrong and not enough, the lights will fade for a minute. If you will overload the crystal, it will become hot to the touch and blackout."
  183.
  184. "Each and every single one of you will need to practice with those crystals. With time, you'll move on to try and resurrect something bigger than a rodent. But for now--"
  185.
  186. "Any questions left?"
  187. (Arthur Rowan)
  188.
  189. The Drakenite slowly reaches down and holds the stone in his hand, and with the empty box he places his rat now in it, his gaze settling upon the stone for a brief moment more before he'd ask
  190.
  191. "Sir, when is it that we will begin to study the functions of the soul in more depth?"
  192. (Alder Blackthorne)
  193.
  194. Akio packs his things into his bag. He looks over toward Arthur and then to the crystal. His attentions were set to the rat on the table now. He then stands up, with everything packed and a hand full of paper as if he was going to wrap something up.
  195.
  196. "can.. keep rat..?" Akio asks slowly. The boy wanted to see what he could do with it at home.
  197. (Akio Karasu)
  198.
  199.
  200. Akio Karasu says, "mmm..."
  201. The crystals were stared at quietly, fingers tapping along it momentarily now that they'd been presented. Watching it warily. Hot to the touch, blackout- oh boy. That sounded.. Exciting. At least it wouldn't get cold to the touch. She is for once silent, letting everyone else do the talking and simply staring between the rodent and the rock.
  202. (Velara Vetalie)
  203.
  204. Now it was the time for questions.
  205.
  206. Promptly, he eyed the two that were asking their questions, Akio and Alder. A simple gaze of acknowledgment is offered to them as they ask, before he exclaims.
  207.
  208. "Yes, you can keep the rat."
  209.
  210. "And the other lessons begin another time. None of you are ready for obvious reasons - you may resurrect a rat now, but actually working with a soul requires a lot more than that. Give it time, and you'll be taught it."
  211. (Arthur Rowan)
  212.
  213. "Thank you for the lesson, Arthur." She wanted to instinctually say 'King' or 'Ser'. Yet managed to refrain from it per his previous request. Fingers pinching at the scruff of the undead rodent. In relatively fine state but, it'd eventually begin decaying, wouldn't it?
  214.
  215. A quiet shrug, as she lifted it up and.. Plopped the twitching rat atop of her head, where it aptly curled into a ball and remained there.
  216.
  217. "I shall.. Call him Ripple. Thanks for the free pet too!" Than again she was so close to having accidentally blown up said undead rat. Awkward.
  218. (Velara Vetalie)
  219.
  220. Arthur Rowan says, "You're welcome. If there are no other questions left, you all are free to go."
