  5. Ages ago, the Jedi Council banished a Jedi Knight to the harsh
  6. planet Dathomir. The wild world was to be her sanctuary, the
  7. place where she could search her soul away from the Republic and
  8. once again find the path of the light side.
  9.  
  10. The punishment worked, and she did her pennance. However, she
  11. never left the world of Dathomir....
  12.  
  13. Not forgotten by the Jedi, but certainly by the Republic, the
  14. banished Jedi soon found that the harsh world was the new prison
  15. planet for the harshest of criminals. The Republic and other less
  16. legitimate governments began stranding their criminal populations
  17. on Dathomir to face the rigors of both flora and fauna on their
  18. own.

  20. The most fearsome of the threats were the massive rancors, great
  21. carnivorous creatures of the jungle. With her Jedi skills, the
  22. fallen knight was able to befriend the creatures, and used her
  23. influence to spare the lives of many of the new citizens of the
  24. backwater planet.
  25.  
  26. And in doing so she became their leader ... for without her, they
  27. would surly die to the wilds.

  29. Years passed, and the lost Jedi took a husband, and bore children.
  30. Oddly, or perhaps by design, she bore only daughters. And as is
  31. common, the Force was strong in her children. They were raised to
  32. be Jedi by their mother. They grew up, took husbands, and bore
  33. their own daughters and trained them in the Force.

  35. As centuries passed, the knowledge of the Force was passed from
  36. mother to daughter, for the rituals taught them by the first Jedi
  37. mother were really methods of using the Force to ensure a daughter
  38. was conceived. Their society evolved into a matriarchy, for
  39. though centuries passed, Dathomir became no less wild, and the
  40. power of the Force to tame the beasts of the jungle was still
  41. needed to survive.

  43. The witches of Dathomir exist today, having survived the tests of
  44. time in their primitive society. This is not to say that they
  45. have not been exposed to technology or outside cultures, but they
  46. have remained largely unaffected by them, since their world holds
  47. little of value to offworlders apart from its savage beauty.
  48.  
  49. Where they have shown a marked change is in their wielding of the
  50. Force. Over the centuries, the teachings of mother to daughter
  51. lost much of the discipline of the Jedi. To compensate for the
  52. focus which is instilled upon Jedi apprentices by their masters,
  53. the witches of Dathomir substituted chants, gestures and even
  54. reagents to aid their concentration and focus when wielding the
  55. Force.

  89. At the dawn of the second Sith war, students of the the ancient
  90. Sith Lord, Freedon Nadd took their incomplete knowledge of the
  91. Sith&#039;s ways and formed the cult of the Krath.

  93. The dark magics which Nadd&#039;s spirit taught his students proved to
  94. to be too much for them. It warped their minds, twisting them
  95. into callous husks of their former selves who were only interested
  96. in toying with the lives of others for their own amusement. They
  97. turned their mastery of the Dark Side to petty cruelties, often
  98. with lethal results.

  100. The main difference between the Krath and the Sith from which they
  101. were spawned is their incomplete training in the use of the Force.
  102. While the Sith are considered sorcerers, wielding the Force in
  103. massive displays of destructive power, the Krath are generally
  104. considered illusionists. The Krath&#039;s mastery of the Force centers
  105. on their ability to alter the thoughts of others and impose their
  106. will upon their subjects.

  143. The Sith were an ancient race of primitive beings on the far rim
  144. of the galaxy. After the first great Jedi war, the Dark Jedi
  145. flead from the cleansing forces of the Jedi to the far sector of
  146. space where the Sith lived....

  150. Throughout the centuries, the Force teachings of the Dark Jedi and
  151. the primitive tribal magic of the Sith mingled, just as the blood
  152. of the Dark Jedi mingled with that of the Sith they had conquered.

  154. The result was a different means of using the Force, even darker
  155. than that which the fallen Jedi had brought with them. The sheer
  156. ferocity and ruthlessness of the Sith altered their perception or

  159. jealousy. The touch of the light side is lost to the Sith forever.
