You are Broken Pembroke, a detective living in Chicago. You have a pistol and
 a police badge. You enter the forest where you believe the criminal you're searching
 for fled to. Suddenly, you hear a noise from behind a tree
> Shoot the tree

You pull your gun out of its holster and fire at the tree. The bullet hits the
 tree and it falls on top of you. You scream as you feel the pain of the gunshot
 wound. The tree then pulls itself up off of you and stands back upright
> Arrest the tree

You quickly grab the gun from the fallen tree and put it in your pocket. You
 run over to the tree that fell on you and begin arresting it. As you do so,
 you notice that the man who was shot is still lying on the ground nearby
> Perform autopsy on the man

You look down at the man who was shot and examine his body. He has been shot
 through the chest and he is dead. You then realize that the man had died before
 you arrived at the scene
> "What killed you?"

 The man replies "I don't know" You ask him how he knows this and he says "It's
 written all over my face". You nod and continue with your investigation.

> Question the tree

You approach the tree and ask it "How did you die?". It doesn't answer but instead
 begins to laugh. You take the opportunity to cuff the tree and throw it into
 a nearby pile of leaves. You walk away from the tree and continue questioning
 other trees

You approach the tree and ask it "How did you die?". It doesn't answer but instead
 begins to laugh. You take the opportunity to cuff the tree and throw it into
 a nearby pile of leaves. You walk away from the tree and continue questioning
 other trees

You continue interrogating the trees until you find one that tells you everything
 you need to know about the murders. You release the tree and return home.

The next day you go to the local newspaper office and read the article about
 the murder. You also see a picture of the murderer
> Look at the picture

You look at the picture of the killer and think "He looks familiar". You remember
 seeing him once when you were a little girl and you decide to call the police.
 You tell them what happened and they arrive shortly after. They search the area
 around the house and find nothing

You play dress up like the murderer and pretend to be him for a few minutes.
 When you're done, you head home.
> Look around

You look around the house and think "This place really does remind me of something..".
 You walk upstairs and start looking through drawers and closets. Eventually
 you come across a set of keys under a pile of papers. You open the door and
 enter the basement
> Turn on the light

You turn on the light and see that there is a small room hidden behind some bookshelves.
 Inside the room is a doll dressed in a suit and tie. You wonder if you should
 try to talk to the doll or not.
> Talk to the doll

You walk up to the doll and speak to it. It speaks back to you and you hear it
 making strange noises. You wonder if you should try to get closer to it or not.
> Listen to strange noises

You listen to the strange noises made by the doll and you realize that it isn't
 human. It seems more like an animal. You decide to leave the room and head back
 downstairs.
> Shoot the doll

You shoot the doll several times and it dies instantly. You then realize that
 you forgot to lock the door and you hear someone coming down the stairs. You
 rush back upstairs and hide behind the couch. You wait patiently while the person
 comes down the stairs
> Look at the person

You look at the person and wonder if you should kill them too. You decide to
 kill them since they are probably responsible for the murder. You shoot them
 multiple times and they fall backwards onto the floor
> Inspect the corpse

You inspect the corpse and realize that it isn't human either. You then realize
 that you shouldn't have killed them either. You immediately turn yourself in
 to the police.
> Get a lawyer

You get a lawyer and you explain what happened. You get a good lawyer and you
 end up getting a lighter sentence than the murderer would have gotten.
> Wait

You wait patiently for the murderer to come back. Finally, you hear footsteps
 outside and the murderer returns. You watch as he walks up to the body and examines
 it. He then turns to you and smiles. He asks you where you got your lawyer from
 and you reply
> "You're under arrest"

 and he laughs and nods. He then says "Well I guess we'll see who's right". and
 walks away. You sigh and look at the body and then back at the murderer. You
 then turn and walk towards the front door.
> Open the door

You open the door and the murderer appears in the doorway. He points his finger
 at you and yells "SHOOT!" You drop your weapon and raise your hands in surrender.
 The murderer shoots you twice and you collapse on the floor
> Cry

You cry as you lie dying
> Refuse to die

You refuse to die and you struggle against the murderer. He tries to strangle
 you but you manage to break free and stab him repeatedly. He screams in agony
 and collapses dead on the floor. You stand over him and watch as the police
 arrive
> Close the case

You close the case and you feel better
> "What's next for me?"

 The voice answers "Nothing really. Just rest".
> Rest

You sleep for a long time and dream about the past. You wake up and realize that
 you've been dreaming about the past. You begin to think about the future and
 you realize that you haven't had any dreams lately
> "I'm very sleepy"

 and you drift off to sleep
