  1. [20:03:50] Amir's strength remained a mystery to Howard for the most part. He was young and spry and confident enough to enter the war, and that said all that needed to be said. He followed him, or tried to, as the boy was quite fast--faster than Howard had ever been, but that wasn't saying much. The idea of training was good, he just hoped that he wouldn't lose an arm before the collision of good and evil.
  2.
  3. They stopped in a field of sorts. It was open and adjacent to the training grounds. He preferred the feel of grass and rocks beneath his feet to that of an artifical mat, and the mat was occupied anyways. He opened his mouth and thought about telling the kid that he wasn't going to hold back, but decided that Amir had probably heard that a lot in his life.
  4.
  5. He nodded instead, and summoned his flames. They started as a feeling, a warm sensation. More heat came around his body as he borrowed it from the atmosphere, and soon the aura erupted. The flames were orange and red and the traditional color of fire, and then suddenly they were golden like the sun. He stood like this and looked forward, waiting for his companion to prepare as well. There was no need for talk. He had a feeling the two of them understood each other well.
  6. (Howard Roark)
  7. [20:08:06] Never before had Amir been in a super serious fight; unless you counted one alike his battle against Veren; in which it became a very fast one-sided stomp that decimated the Ookami-child -- so silly he had been for trying to steal Amir's pet goat! It was rude; and he got what he deserved, something that was quite certain if you asked one.
  8.
  9. Either way, it was time ot abttle; the boy draws forth Temperance from his back and he holds onto it -- his grip tightening as the magic within it comes to life! Water courses along it's handle; the shaft of the stave would have begun to have it flowing all around it! Of course, Amir had quite a few tricks; shooting forth ice and water in different intervals along with the very sudden shocks of earth magic at the ground.
  10.
  11. Of course, at some point -- water and wind slowly begin to translate into ice magic for the Sarradian. Something pent-up within him was doing it -- but Howard wouldn't know anything about that, considering he'd never heard the whining of the boy and his 'lack of talent'.
  12. (Amir)
  13. [20:09:48] {combat} Howard Roark has been defeated by Amir! They're unable to continue fighting.
  14. [20:14:04] fire
  15.
  16. The magic was something that almost caused a startle to Amir; something that was known to be extremely violent, uncontrollable, powerful.. He didn't know what to do -- his best solution seemed to be creating walls of earth and hurdling them towards that of the Holyfire magi -- as if it was his best defense against something of this variant, which, surprise surprise, it was.
  17.
  18. But he couldn't do much with just that -- walls of earth colliding with the illusionist's face wouldn't win him this type of battle; and it certainly wouldn't win him a fight in a war! Amir had to thin quick; and with that -- splashes of water and blasts of wind come from either side of said walls -- he was trying to block off most of the fire, though, some of it does get through -- and it burns -- and it hurts.
  19.
  20. However, with his final shot; a wave of his hand is given to the air, cutting spikes of ice hurdling at him! Surely it would knock him off his feet...
  21. (Amir)
  22. [20:18:20] He couldn't say that he had underestimated the boy, for he didn't have an opinion of his combat ability at all before now. He felt himself losing and that was frustrating, and it became even more so when he actually lost. He wasn't accustomed to getting kicked around and it had been some time since he had faced a loss, but now it came to him. He shook himself off and tried to stand straight.
  23.
  24. There was still time, he knew, and perhaps he could prevail if circumstances favored him. The wind was fast and the water was cold, and he could still feel their effects long after they had passed. He was hurting but not hurt, and he was tired but not fatigued.
  25.
  26. "Damn, you're a lot better than I expected," he said. It was something of a lie but the boy could stand to be praised. He knew that he liked it when his own efforts were recognized. "Let's see if you can repeat that fluke, eh?"
  27.
  28. He steadied himself. He was prepared as he could get without leaving the battlefield. It was fun in an odd way. He knew that there was nothing to gain for him--if he won, he had beaten up a child, more or less, not that he could to begin with. He decided that, if only in this circumstance, defeating a child was something that he wanted.
  29. (Howard Roark)
  30. [20:20:54] {combat} Amir has been defeated by Howard Roark! They're unable to continue fighting.
  31. [20:25:10] He had to run. It was a shameful technique, but it was a technique nonetheless. He did not go without taking damage and it was not one sided in the least. He had almost lost a few times and he was feeling the pain from those close calls. Howard despised himself for being cowardly but there was no choice in the matter. He had at least hurt the child, and that was something that he was not particularly proud of.
  32.
  33. "Eh, you're damn strong," he said. "You're about the strongest teenager that I've ever seen--I know that's not saying much considering who it's coming from, but eh..."
  34.
  35. Talking too much gave him pain. Above all, he didn't want to demean the boy by haranguing in their midst of their spar. It was a serious battle, albeit a mock one. He nodded and hoepd that that sufficed as he backed away, giving Amir space to compose himself. Howard knew that he needed it just as much.
  36.
  37. He had used his fire but it did not burn as bad, and he was not trying to hurt Amir--it would sting, yes, but there were no scars to be found, nor would there be. They needed each other, for a war was soon. Howard remembered that and it affected his every movement.
  38. (Howard Roark)
  39. [20:29:26] Of course, perhaps he was getting a bit too relaxed in the next round-- Perhaps Amir was not being more careful that he should have been, for it seemed that Howard had suddenly stepped up his game! As if holding back was no longer a thing he seemed to be doing; or he was starting to get lucky within the tides of battle, at least. Amir had to strategize.
  40.
  41. Walls of earth were not working; the could only go so far before they became so useless! Everything he was attempting would have to be tried again -- so, after a pause; Amir collects more water around his Temperance after being beaten. He didn't know Howard was this strong -- or rather -- that he was this strong? For Amir always doubted himself. However, with the conflict involving a certain friend; he could draw forth ice magic.
  42.
  43. "Strong.. Yeah...", he states -- a pause of sorts -- he would have gripped his Temperance a lot harder. It was time to win. Even if he didn't win, however, the fact he had managed ice magic was enough to raise his spirits.
  44. (Amir)
  45. [20:32:51] {combat} Howard Roark has been defeated by Amir! They're unable to continue fighting.
  46. [20:37:07] It seemed to be working -- where the man's suggestion, or rather, his idea to run was taken, the boy would send forth wind magic that followed the steps fot he man -- wind magic that would soon catch up to him with all of the impending rock walls and wind magic that would soon become his end! Even if he could not fight a fire magi up close, he could do it from far away.
  47.
  48. Perhaps this was something he should be taking away. Either way, the boy is swift to deliver a beating -- eventually charging in with ice spikes -- hurdling them at the man before he would have finished off a final blow -- a simple rockwall to sned him flying into the air!... Of course, wind magic would have come to catch his fall; the aeromancy proving powerful enough to do so. Afterwards, Amir moves forwards to offer a hand up to the old man.
  49.
  50. "... Good fight. Learnt ice magic.. Cool."
  51. (Amir)
