- So I went incognito on pop-star stan twitter because for some reason trending si Sharlene
- and I was like "bakit siya trending anong meron"
- but nope
- just stan twitter being stan twitter
- so mostly I paid no mind.
- Pero na-realize ko:
- mga taga-Goin' Bulilit sila, right?
- it makes sense
- that the audience who grew up watching that show
- would also bias these stars once they grow up
- like it's such an obvious thing to happen
- but I'm still kinda taken aback
- maybe because I wasn't into celeb culture and never have
- but yeah
- these kids grow up
- puberty hits
- and being hella rich from TV money and fame
- it goes well for them than it is for plebs
- and they become hot
- they become more marketable
- just in time for them to enter college
- and be a bit more set to get back in the spotlight
- as absolutely beautiful people.
- Tapos lahat ng mga nakapanood sa kanila naa mga bata (tsaka parents at mga tita rin)
- get all hot and bothered kasi nga ganito ganyan
- naging endorser or may theme song or NASA teleserye or nasa PBB
- all of that I get logically
- but emotionally I'm simultaneously "yeah they're hot"
- and also "THIS is what you're all getting worked up for, really?"
- like
- very clear sign of media culture and capitalism and all other school shit that no one has time to learn
- and also because they really just look so good
- it helps that unlike Hollywood
- talagang emphasized yung "study first".
- Doesn't matter na nanalo ka sa The Voice o sa Tawag ng Tanghalan
- dapat nakapagtapos ka
- kasi hindi forever ang pagiging artists
- ganung advice
- and totoo naman kasi
- then just take a year to get back into celeb training
- you already got the parents a house and car
- you're set for life.
- They already know you as "that good singer who won all the things"
- leave it to Star Magic or something for the rebrand
- and it works so consistently well
- it's honestly scary.
- like I tell ya
- if it wasn't for all the horror stories of past child stars meeting bad ends everywhere
- and that "finish school first" doctrine
- baka iba ang kahinatnan nila ngayon.
- TL;DR:
- kids become teens
- and old man yells at screen
- (but not angrily or despondently; I'm a millennial, I'm basically elder brother material)
