A matter of etiquette has been brought to our attention regarding the behavior of Lord Arik Halfshav with one of our vassals. Uncomfortable advances have been made in a manner that does not befit a member of the peerage. House Velenosa would be more than happy to hire a Whisper to educate Lord Arik in the finer points of the arts of seduction and etiquette, especially when a lady is not pleased with these advances. I am reluctant to bring such to your attention, but felt especially pushed to do so when it was indicated to me that Lord Arik believes you'll see this matter as a joke rather than take it with the sincerity and import that it deserves.

Congratulations on securing such a revered Patron. I will admit I am disappointed but not surprised. Should anyone ever challenge me to an honor duel over something feckless you will be my champion of choice. As the challenged I will name the duel to be decided by submission and no weapons or armor allowed. I stand on the edge of Everwinter, well I sit at this desk on the edge of it. It is rather cold and I am writing to pass the pre-dawn hours. Although I presume you fancy yourself a flame or swaggering captain in spirit I find myself wondering if this place might be more to your liking. It howls till ears ring. It is so silent that ears ache. So cold it burns. I imagine the paradox would appeal to your sensibilities. I hope this letter finds you without having fought your first duel as champion. I would have hated to miss such a sight.

I'm thoroughly disappointed that you were not standing on the edge of Everwinter, overlooking a great cliff into a vasty wasteland of snow, while dictating your letter to some poor scribe.

What a peculiar opinion you have of me.  A flame?  I do not believe I have ever claimed to be a flame.  A flame or a swaggering captain?  Truly peculiar.  I am but a simple woman-- a brawler and a lady with a love of fine things.

Would I like the snow?  Perhaps.  I've never been, and I see no reason why I would make a trek up to Everwinter.

Desc: As I take claims of actions unbefitting of a Peer serious even when they are laughable I have had scribes compile my correspondence with Lady Lys de Lire. In this brief document I will outline my relationship with the Lady of Afflua and happily give my oath to its sincerity and completeness. Know that I have no regret for my actions only that I had to bother the scribes and take time to write this document. I would do it all again, though ideally I would be understood for the words and intentions I conveyed and not the fantasies of a ennobled woman three months into her life of privilige.

I met Lys de Lire at the training center. She was speaking with Caspian Wild and was rather flamboyant. I recognized her from gossip about a recently ennobled woman from the lowers with a tentative relationship to Rose Baron Audric de Lire. She was gawdy, brazen, and energetic. I thought brazen was not a bad trait to have the rest was hopefully a phase of a young woman adjusting to a life of duty. I recall giving her a rather dour look, as is my way.

I next met Lady Lys de Lire was at Spirits or so I was told. I was drinking with my Protege Violet Marjawn and evidently was arguing with Scholar Rinel about whether there were or were not spirits in the Archive. Obviously there are but the Scholar seemed very upset about the matter and I nearly got into a religious debate with her about two bottles deep into some fine stone mountain whiskey. Violet defused the situation and ensured I got home. Lys walked in and I do not recall what I may have said to her. I am told that she lamented that I had 'never put my hands' on her and that her 'pride was wounded'. However second hand gossip from Northern commoners is hardly reliable and I was drunk. It may have happened.

Another time I met Lys de Lire was at the training center she credited me with convincing Caspain to name her a champion. Likely due to my commentary on her presentation when we first met. She challenged me to a spar, I was pre-occupied and left. I would like to point out a theme in these recollections. Mayhap you see it too? If you wonder about my memory I will tell you now... As a Sword of Whitehold you generally try and recall details of conversations. You never know when someone is going to claim something. Alas I do not have a perfect memory and so verbatim words are beyond me. More to pity.

Then there were some random meetings. Here and there. The young woman seemed eager to get a rise from me or my approval mayhap? I think she is rather spoiled with those fawning over her nobility and likely needed someone to disapprove. Since I disapprove that someones was me. I met her with Seax, she implied I am a ponce silk. I offered patronage at some point we left the Spirits together went to her house in the Velenosa ward. Presumably I do not go there very often. We spoke of patronage. I pointed out my patronage offer to her was to teach her nobility. I commented on a painting I met the Rose Baron. I informed her of my requirements for a protege in honesty which I doubted she could fulfill and we covered some other points. I thought having two proteges with strong ties to mercenary outfits would be beneficial. We do have a war with the Horned God coming up. I offer her a stipend of two thousand silvers. This part I remember rather clearly because I was telling this story for a few weeks after...

She leaned into me on a couch, purred some hilarious attempt at sultry at me and informed me I was a stuck up snob who disdained her because she was common born, but that I clearly wished to bed her and the lack of such stung me. I admit shamelessly I laughed so hard in her face I hit her in the head with my own. She asked me to leave. I told Duke Crovane and several others about the incident, in public no less, I dubbed it the scandals of Arik Halfshav. I included arguing with a scholar about spirits in the archives while drunk in those scandals. I apparently have a knack for upsetting people.

After that idly contact here or there. Predictably she hates me rather openly, I mean she smiles but... Really I am not blind no matter how dense I may seem. The woman hates me and I have little cause to socialize with her beyond my own amusement. She took the ArchDuchesses' patronage. We did not speak for weeks at a time as our correspondence shows. I quite frankly knew of no other wrestling champions to ask about fighting bears which is a whimsy of mine to handle feckless challenges much like... this one seems to be... A shame I could not place her on retainer which was my only goal the night we had our incident. Well place her on retainer and lavish her with ridiculous praise that no sane person would have taken seriously. Honestly just because she has red hair and an attitude does not mean every Lord within sight of her wishes to lose his wits and bed down with her.
