- Then, some time later, after the child was eighteen months of age, the two women said to the mother, “Lady, we must leave this place; it seems to us that we have been here long enough.”
- And she answered, “As soon as you are gone they will bring me to trial. ”

- She wept and cried out for mercy: for God’s sake, could they not bear to stay awhile longer?
- They went off to a window while the mother held her child in her arms and sat and wept very bitterly and said, “Dear son, I will be put to death because of you, and I haven’t deserved it; no one knows the truth, yet I am not believed, so I will have to die.”
- She spoke these words to her son and said that it was a great shame that God had allowed him to be born.
- And while she wept and wailed to Our Lord, the child looked at her and said with a smile, “Never will you die for what has happened to you because of me.”
- When the mother heard him, her heart nearly stopped beating, and she became frightened. Her arms went limp and she dropped him; he fell to the floor and screamed.
