  1. This is my beginner tutorial on how to get through the second half of the wasteland consistently.
  2.
  3. First and foremost, this is an accurate wasteland map (http://imgur.com/GxIrSEB). I'll be using this a lot. You can actually link the edges of the void zone with several different cues:
  4.
  5. -Seams. The hills in the wasteland are made of big polygons and seams are the edges of those polygons. Sometimes, these seams are the exact edge of the void zone.
  6. -Textures in the sand. When you look at the texture of the sand, you'll notice that there's (wide) lines of darker sand and (skinny) lines of lighter sand. These line textures can also be useful as cues. (If you can't see these lines clearly, don't worry too much. They're easier to see when the screen is in motion, and they'll be easier to see when you familiarize yourself with the wasteland. They're also easier to see when it's daytime.)
  7.
  8.
  9.
  10.
  11. With that out of the way, I'll show you the cues I use. Here's an example of me doing this movement: https://youtu.be/0EWL0ECubhY?t=53m30s
  12.
  13. When you roll away from the little castle, try to roll alongside the line in this picture (http://i.imgur.com/iF31Qjm.png). The line is in the extension of one of the walls of the castle. To imagine the line, I also use this pole (the previous picture has an arrow that points towards this pole): http://i.imgur.com/fhXk5UQ.png http://i.imgur.com/XNdJtf3.png
  14.
  15. That pole is in one of the white line textures of the wasteland, and that white line also crosses to the corner of the void zone: http://i.imgur.com/shMN60z.png
  16.
  17. When rolling alongside that line, you eventually hit a seam. You can notice how the hill changes from going slightly downhill to going slightly uphill when you cross that seam. That seam is actually precisely alongside the edge of the void zone: http://i.imgur.com/NDObHv0.png
  18. At this timecode, you can pretty clearly see how I turn left after crossing the seam: https://youtu.be/0EWL0ECubhY?t=53m35s
  19.
  20. After turning left, just roll alongside the edge of the void zone.
  21.
  22. Then, you'll eventually see a seam in this hill. You'll change from going slightly uphill to slightly downhill. That seam is this red line: http://i.imgur.com/EcnlrKS.png
  23. That red line eventually hits this black point where all these seams intertwine. You can pretty clearly see that when you roll next to it: http://i.imgur.com/fBxRPD4.png
  24.
  25. When you pass that corner, notice these seams in the hills: http://i.imgur.com/r14gQbM.png
  26. They're the same as these lines: http://i.imgur.com/cEo1wua.png
  27.
  28. That longer seam actually turns into the edge of the void zone at 50% of its length, so eventually you wanna roll alongside the left of that seam. The point at the end of that black line is also the top of the hill (top of the hill marked in red: http://i.imgur.com/NIY7dah.png).
  29.
  30. When rolling up the hill alongside the seam, you wanna turn upleft when you reach this white line texture http://i.imgur.com/5HcpE5k.png http://i.imgur.com/jZTy8LF.png
  31. You can pretty clearly see how I turn up-left at the texture at this timecode: https://youtu.be/0EWL0ECubhY?t=53m42s
  32.
  33. After turning upleft, you'll notice a couple of white lines on this hill (marked in red on this pic http://i.imgur.com/na2oyJd.png). These are especially hard to see on that still image, but they're easier to see in motion. Align with the end of one of those white lines. Link is algined with it in the picture.
  34.
  35. Then, turn around and backwalk.
  36.
  37. While backwalking, notice the leevers spawning. While continuing to backwalk, you'll see one set of leevers spawn and go away, then you'll see another set spawn. When the 2nd set is fully up from the sand, roll downright (you can see what I mean pretty clearly at this timecode https://youtu.be/0EWL0ECubhY&t=53m44s).
  38.
  39. Then you can see the two poles that mark the end of the wasteland. Just backwalk/superslide towards those until you hit the loading zone.
  40.
  41.
  42.
  43.
  44.
  45. One last thing. For the first part of the movement, you can also backwalk alongside that first line: https://youtu.be/GphwrTBe0Cw?t=50m51s
  46. You can also get that backwalk angle by targeting the side of the castle and turning 90 degrees.
