  1. Welcome to FC/OC, here you can make pages for your favorite fan fiction, and/or original character. As you might know, we are an offshoot of Vs Battle Wiki. We borrow quite a lot of their rules, practices, and its required that you act as an editor there before joining the forum. Take everything mentioned in their rules and apply it here, unless otherwise mentioned.
  2.
  3. BEFORE READING, IT IS HIGHLY RECOMMENDED THAT YOU READ VSB'S PAGES ON STANDARD FORMATS!
  4.
  5. ==The First and Most Important Step==
  6. The first thing we need to cover is vital to your time on the wiki, as well as our own.
  7. When first starting work on this wiki, USE. YOUR. SANDBOX. Your sandbox is a test bed where you can save and come back to your work before posting it as an article once its finished. DO. NOT. CREATE. WIP. ARTICLES.
  8.
  9. "But-"
  10.
  11. NO.

  13. "But-"
  14.
  15. NO.
  16.
  17. If you post an incomplete or WIP article, it will be deleted. Start there and stop crying.
  18.
  19. ==Second Important Step==
  20. The second naggy little requirement is that you should always be editing in the source editor. No we don't care if you're an inexperienced editor that thinks visual is more appealing, that's what this guide is for. Yes as stated visual is gonna be the one you're more tempted to use at first, however it has a lot of not so obvious problems that make longer edits a chore, or in some cases outright impossible. Good luck correcting an incorrect bold, or italic character, while also missing half of the wiki's tools. One easy way to use source is by copying others. If you see something you want on your own page, just copy the source text over and edit it to your liking.
  21.
  22. ==Starting your article and describing your character==
  23. So you have your tools and you've been looking around the wiki's source code, time to put fingers to keyboard/glass and write about your character. But what do I start with, you might ask, well the place to start is looking in. Whats your character? Whats their story? How do they work? What's their internal logic and how do they come to the decisions they make in your story? This is something we should know about your character, and something you as an article writer should be passionate enough to elaborate on. Retention and writing quality are essential for making a quality article.
  24. We do have a page that outlines every relevant statistic and piece of information that you can tell us about your subject. Be precise and to the point when jotting down any necessary information as well. Avoid run on sentences and more droning unnecessary details. Keep the person just skimming the article in vs threads in mind.
  25.
  26. ==Proper formatting==
  27. As aforementioned there is a page that gives a basic outline for every basic piece of information we're looking for in our articles. Being that VSB follows a similar article structure we do insist that when adding extraneous content to a page, like a tabber for example, that further alterations are done in moderation. The wiki has 2 display modes for light and dark mode users and using something like colored text could hinder the articles readability. Similar to the last section, improper use of tabbers can also make navigating the article difficult, especially on mobile platforms, which completely omits tabbers normally.
  28. We want to encourage experimentation but we also stress that you do not test the limits of what is and isn't allowed by this, or our rules.
  29.
  30. ===Image usage===
  31. This is getting its own subsection because quite frankly this is where a lot of users deviate unnecessarily. You should have something that can visibly represent the articles subject matter, be it a character, team weapon, location or verse. Its a visual medium that further engages the reader with the subject.
  32. AN IMAGE HOWEVER IS NEVER AN EXCUSE TO USE SOMETHING LIKE "see image" IN YOUR APPEARANCE SECTION. TALK. ABOUT. YOUR. CHARACTER.
  33.
  34. Images should follow the standards established by VSB:
