  1. Worse, not only are we shorting ourselves with these limitations, it’s really a self-inflicted punishment. Seriously, think about it. What does society do when they want to punish you? They limit you. Your punishment is almost always taking something away from you. Whether it’s your things, your freedom or, in the most extreme circumstances, your life, society has determined that the best punishment for any transgression is to limit you. They’re taking away opportunities and choices. They’re telling you what you cannot do. And yet, you’re willing to do that to yourself every day. How many people suspect they would rather die than spend the rest of their life in prison? Yet, they willingly put those shackles on themselves. If you’re going to put yourself into a prison of your own making, you might as well be dead. You’re not really living, it’s just surviving.
