In New Orleans, English teacher of the high school Rampart High, Will Gerard, and his wife, musician Laura Gerard, are in love with each other. One night, Laura leaves a rehearsal and is assaulted, while Will is playing chess with his friend Jimmy. Will is visiting her in hospital when, out of the blue, a stranger named Simon tells him that he belongs to an organization of vigilantes and offers to eliminate the assailant. In return, the organisation would want a favor from Will in the future. Will agrees, and the criminal is murdered. Six months later, Simon collects his debt with Will. He demands that Will kill Alan Marsh, a pedophile. Will accidentally kills Alan and soon he learns that the victim was an awarded journalist that was investigating the organization. Now he seeks evidences to prove his innocence but the network of the organization is powerful and is seeking Will out to eliminate him.
After his wife is assaulted, a husband enlists the services of a vigilante group to help him settle the score. Then he discovers they want a 'favor' from him in return.
OK, so when I read the blurb for this film, I thought, hmmmmm I&#39;m quite up for this thriller, despite it starring the worst actor known to mankind. I gave it a go and corr blimey it was awful. BORINNNNGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGG. Not only is the film incredibly predictable, but the acting is disgustingly bad and the dialogue is embarrassing. The plot has more holes than a tramps sock. My nan could give a better performance than Cage and all respect for Guy Pearce has gone out the window after this one. Only watch this either if you need to doze off or you are insanely stupid and require no mind stimulation.<br/><br/>AWFULLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLL!
...and I hate using that expression..., but the only good thing in the movie was January Jones. I would&#39;ve liked seeing more of her like that Vera Farmiga scene in The Departed or in Running scared..., but going back to this N.Cage movie, it was definitely predictable, not exciting enough, no good action sequences, totally expendable. In Mexico, the title in Spanish was that of the Charles Bronson movie &quot;Death Wish&quot; -Vengador Anónimo-, so it was misguiding. I wasn&#39;t looking forward to a remake of that movie, but I do like the vengeance/ payback movies, and my hopes were high -both Guy Pearce and Nicolas Cage are guys I consider good actors-, but I was disappointed, to the point of almost walking out of the theater. But January&#39;s presence kept me there, and believe me, only because of her, I could see the movie again when the DVD comes out.<br/><br/>I too hope the new Ghostrider gives us more action with better FX and a less clichés, because it&#39;s been a while since good old times of Conair, The Rock and even Rumble Fish!..., whatever happened to you Nick, get back on track, please...
Cage and the always-intense Pearce keep this thing going, but even they seem to know the ultimate destination is a bargain bin.
