  10.
  11. whale770 11 hours ago IA melon
  12.
  13. banana60 11 hours ago While some of them might be, most of this is a long time coming.
  14.
  15. koala610 11 hours ago And frankly, I would rather support victims than accuse people of lying about this
  16.
  17. ಠ_ಠ 11 hours ago koala610: banana60: true but what happened to the notion of 'innocent before proven guilty'?
  18.
  19. banana60 11 hours ago This is the part where folks are working together to prove them guilty of something they've been afraid to speak about for a multitude of reasons.
  20.
  21. melon646 11 hours ago Innocent until proven guilty doesn't mean no accusations. You need an accusation to start the trial.
  22.
  23. olive834 11 hours ago I do believe strongly in innocent until proven guilty but that doesn't mean I don't support accusations and take them seriously
  24.
  25. olive834 11 hours ago Also it's worth mentioning that the justice system that utilizes that principle very often fails legitimate victims in sexual abuse cases despite evidence
  26.
  27. olive834 11 hours ago It's a flawed system
  28.
  29. peach626 11 hours ago I’m pretty much on board with everyone here except the OP
  30.
  31. peach626 11 hours ago esp since it’s not as if victims of assault don’t suffer any sort of social consequence of they try to tell people what happened
  32.
  33. peach626 11 hours ago at the very least they get this same kind of side eye doubt and shaming about accusing an innocent person.
  34.
  35. peach626 11 hours ago like the idea that people do this to “get attention” cause my eyes to roll up so far back into my head
  36.
  37. ಠ_ಠ 11 hours ago peach626: doesn't mean some don't
  38.
  39. melon934 11 hours ago Lmao um, innocent until proven guilty is about the LEGAL system.
  40.
  41. melon934 11 hours ago Feelings, talking about things, and Actions Having Consequences are a part of life.
  42.
  43. melon934 11 hours ago They aren’t bound by American Constitutional precepts.
  44.
  45. uranus92 11 hours ago I think the biggest thing is that they’re not fighting said allegations. I’d be more inclined to believe something might be looked into more if the accused was going “wait no that didn’t happen” and fight it. But it’s pretty telling when the
  46.
  47. uranus92 11 hours ago Accused just immediately roll over and resign and go “yeah I did that.” Like. Come on. You can’t look at the people going “yes it’s true” and then go BUT WHAT IF FAKE??
  48.
  49. melon934 11 hours ago ^^^yes that too. Also like way to be more ready to believe 1 dude over however many women.
  50.
  51. peach626 11 hours ago oh my god what world do you live in that you’d think someone would subject themselves to the social ostracism and humiliation and all the other emotional cocktail of coming out as an assault victim and think its faked for attention
  52.
  53. peach626 11 hours ago ^^^ what melon and uranus said too
  54.
  55. ಠ_ಠ 11 hours ago peach626: a world like this one: Teacher kills self after being accused of sex with student | Dail...
  56.
  57. melon934 11 hours ago Yes yes clearly the statistics ALL POINT ONE WAY
  58.
  59. peach626 11 hours ago right one anecdote means all of these news stories are fake news
  60.
  61. melon934 10 hours ago Thanks mr president you solved the case
  62.
  63. melon646 10 hours ago Victims kill themselves too.
  64.
  65. ox634 10 hours ago I think it feels like a witch hunt too OP. I don't discount most of those claims, but some of the claims are essentially saying "regret = rape." For example, Louis CK. Yes, what he did was wrong, but he asked, they said "yes" (never said "no" or "stop"), but claim it was because they were afraid of the power he had (that he never used).
  66.
  67. ಠ_ಠ 10 hours ago ox634: finally, a not!troll
  68.
  69. ox746 10 hours ago I hope I can figure out who you are. so I can remove you from my TL and my life.
  70.
  71. ಠ_ಠ 10 hours ago lol so passive aggressive
  72.
  73. ox746 10 hours ago nothing passive about it.
  74.
  75. melon646 10 hours ago I know I'm cantankerous but how is Olive and koala a troll? They are being very mild
  76.
  77. ಠ_ಠ 10 hours ago I was mainly talking about melon and peach btw
  78.
  79. kiwi840 10 hours ago anon, the fact that you're calling people who disagree with you trolls is not shining a good light in your favor.
  80.
  81. banana16 10 hours ago yeah i'm with ox. i'd prefer you off my tl
  82.
  83. banana16 10 hours ago if you want me to reveal myself so we can quietly break that connection, i have no problems doing so
  84.
  85. deer984 10 hours ago Study showed that 99.6% of rape allegations are true even if a victim recanted. There are a lot of factor involved, op.
  86.
  87. banana60 10 hours ago Seriously. Just because someone didn't agree with you doesn't make them a troll, especially when they gave you justification as to why they think the way they do. :/
  88.
  89. melon646 10 hours ago We're not saying we like fake accusations. We're saying we believe the accusations
  90.
  91. kiwi840 10 hours ago as it stands, i would agree with the majority here: what we're seeing is the domino effect, women finally feeling as though their voices might be heard and their stories listened to, rather than written off and buried beneath a pile of name-calling and mistrust. calling it a virtual lynch mob not only undermines the veracity of the stories being told but
  92.
  93. kiwi840 10 hours ago equates it to the senseless brutality faced by blacks in america's history - it makes it sound like you think women are only making these allegations to punish men for existing, not because many of these people can be and are repeat offenders.
  94.
  95. banana60 10 hours ago I don't mind revealing myself. This is GrimmHooke. Please remove me from your flist.
  96.
  97. banana60 10 hours ago Because I'm not super keen on having someone who would call dissenting opinions about a sensitive topic like this "trolling."
  98.
  99. peach626 10 hours ago ... I was being entirely sincere and not trolling at all.
  100.
  101. peach626 10 hours ago seriously. just. I can’t even. I’m crying. And I’m at work. Just.
  102.
  103. banana60 10 hours ago I do not have the patience to deal with that kind of behavior anymore. Sorry.
  104.
  105. peach626 10 hours ago I want you off my timeline but I’m kind of afraid of blowback if I’m not anon so
  106.
  107. peach626 10 hours ago since I’m a “troll”
  108.
  109. peach626 10 hours ago I can’t even
  110.
  111. pear126 10 hours ago I know who u are thanks to grimmhooke so bye pirate king
  112.
  113. melon646 10 hours ago Ty grimmhooke
  114.
  115. kiwi840 10 hours ago well, i can save you all the trouble. i believe this is glacian, as she's the only mutual connection between myself and GrimmHooke.
  116.
  117. pear126 10 hours ago Can confirm the above
  118.
  119. melon646 10 hours ago same.
  120.
  121. pear126 10 hours ago Anon on Plurk ain’t that anon honey
  122.
  123. banana16 10 hours ago thanks kiwi
  124.
  125. melon934 10 hours ago Lmao I’m sorry, what the shit? I made some perfectly cogent points before I got snippy.
  126.
  127. melon934 10 hours ago That doesn’t make me a fucking troll.
  128.
  129. melon934 10 hours ago I’m LadyVoldything, and if this is you, Jack!mun, I’m seriously disappointed.
  130.
  131. bat8 10 hours ago yeah the daily mail isn't really the best source for info, just putting that put there
  132.
  133. bat8 10 hours ago out* even
  134.
  135. melon934 10 hours ago The world is filled with nuance and complication. Louis CK isn’t a knife wielding rapist hiding in shadows but he did behave inappropriately and misuse the social and career power he held over people who didn’t feel like they were in a position to say no.
  136.
  137. melon934 10 hours ago This cultural shift is a change in THOUSANDS OF YEARS of harmful, abusive patriarchy silencing rape/assault/harassment victims.
  138.
  139. melon934 10 hours ago It’s not perfect. There are liars and mistakes. But it is so, so necessary. Just... let it be. Let the sea change happen. What emerges from the other side will be a better, more equal world. If we let it.
  140.
  141. melon934 10 hours ago This needs to happen. The world needs to change.
  142.
  143. bat8 10 hours ago also it's kind of rich that the people jumping to the defense of predatory men have been using a term that references a phenomenon of persecution that targeted/punished (unmarried) women almost exclusively
  144.
  145. bat8 10 hours ago but uh... yeah, so looks like it's just you, op.
  146.
  147. ಠ_ಠ 10 hours ago no, I'm not saying that
  148.
  149. melon934 10 hours ago Honestly I’m incredibly disappointed that you dismissed every single point that everybody made.
  150.
  151. melon934 10 hours ago And deemed us all trolls because you didn’t want to hear it.
  152.
  153. ಠ_ಠ 10 hours ago I'm not dismissing anything.
  154.
  155. melon934 9 hours ago You called us all trolls.
  156.
  157. melon934 9 hours ago That’s dismissing us, and everything we have to say.
  158.
  159. ಠ_ಠ 9 hours ago I'm sorry about that. I feel like the culture late has become very hateful and violent. like as soon have a difference of opinion, everyone attacks. do the accusations deserve some merit? yes, but what if they're wrong about a handful?
  160.
  161. melon934 9 hours ago Violent? You think that the trend of exposing abusers is violent?
  162.
  163. melon934 9 hours ago The culture is defiant. There’s a difference between violence and defiance.
  164.
  165. ಠ_ಠ 9 hours ago I'm very confused about what to think about anything regarding what's happening.no, I think exposing the subjects is good
  166.
  167. melon934 9 hours ago The cone of silence enforced over centuries has been lifted, and people finally feel free to bring their traumas to light.
  168.
  169. ಠ_ಠ 9 hours ago what has me worried is the fact that one of the newly accused is someone who's being targeted by people who clearly hated him prior. he's not a big name like some of the others, aka Weinstein, but he was a prominent Black TV host
  170.
  171. bat8 9 hours ago as was the very wholesome and well-loved bill cosby.
  172.
  173. ಠ_ಠ 9 hours ago it's a good thing Weinstein and others like him are being outed but what about others who might be getting swept up in this storm by jealous or hateful people?
  174.
  175. ಠ_ಠ 9 hours ago the Bill Cosby scandal really...shocked me. though this tv host isn't him
  176.
  177. ಠ_ಠ 9 hours ago This man was on PBS.
  178.
  179. ಠ_ಠ 9 hours ago Matt Lauer, Harvey Weinstein, Bill Cosby all have decades of disgusting sexual mischeviousness swept under a rug thanks to bug names and money. Everyone knew Hollywood was terrible but no one did anything.
  180.
  181. ಠ_ಠ 9 hours ago The MeToo movement is a solid movement to seek justice for victims but I feel it can be used for getting rid of harding those you dislike.
  182.
  183. melon934 9 hours ago Nothing is perfect. But this issue is so sensitive that speaking up like you did can hurt people all on its own.
  184.
  185. melon646 9 hours ago Everything is that way, like law sheltering criminals time and time again
  186.
  187. melon646 9 hours ago This is why we listen and think and investigate
  188.
  189. ಠ_ಠ 9 hours ago trying to just talk about it is daunting when everyone's first inkling is to attack each other. the law has failed on numerous accounts to seek justice on various levels that I think it needs a complete overhaul.
  190.
  191. melon934 9 hours ago Well there are ways to ask questions and calling rape victims fakers and a “lynch mob” ain’t it.
  192.
  193. ಠ_ಠ 9 hours ago I wasn't saying all the accusors are lying or fakes. no.
  194.
  195. ಠ_ಠ 9 hours ago it just feels like current society operates on the idea "oh, this person says this about this person. so instead of looking up the facts myself and forming my own opinion, let me just agree with everyone else"
  196.
  197. ಠ_ಠ 9 hours ago if it's not a glarily obvious situation like Weinstein or Cosby, what will society do about those who don't have that kind of reputation? do we just assume the worse or wait until more details appear?
  198.
  199. kiwi840 9 hours ago but these stories are being fact-checked before they're being reported by the bigger news outlets. wapo ran a story a few weeks ago about a woman trying to trap them into writing about a false accusation, and how their due diligence led to uncovering her lies.
  200.
  201. kiwi840 9 hours ago sure, anyone can say anything they want, but when these stories become huge like this, reporters from reputable journals take very seriously the necessity of verifying and validating the information they're given.
  202.
  203. kiwi840 9 hours ago and people stepping forward about less-popular perpetrators don't have the power to make their stories spread as wide, making it less likely that other victims might step forward, which means that they have to be that much braver to speak out.
  204.
  205. kiwi840 9 hours ago you're also speaking as though everybody believes cosby and weinstein's accusers. there are still a ton of people out there that believe these women are lying for the attention. plurk and dwrp at large are very liberal spaces, which means you're not going to run into that mindset often, but we just saw with the alabama senate race that plenty of people
  206.
  207. kiwi840 9 hours ago stick their heads in the sand when faced with ideas they don't want to believe are true. the women making these allegations don't need you casting doubt on their words... they're facing enough accusations of lying already.
  208.
  209. ಠ_ಠ 9 hours ago kiwi840: you're right. definitely on that last bit. the victims would have to be braver than most to call out less known predators.
  210.
  211. ಠ_ಠ 9 hours ago there's still people who don't believe Trump is innocent nevertheless Ray Moore, the Alabama creep
  212.
  213. ಠ_ಠ 9 hours ago still*
  214.
  215. ಠ_ಠ 9 hours ago not don't
  216.
  217. baboon62 9 hours ago man i know i'm late on this but to say "well louis ck's victims didn't say no", holy shit, ox.
  218.
  219. kiwi840 9 hours ago exactly. your surroundings are very liberal, so you don't see the amount of arguing that's going on elsewhere as people insist that all of these are made up and victim-blame on the basis of clothing or behavior or daring to be alone with a man and thinking he wouldn't do anything.
  220.
  221. baboon62 9 hours ago anyway agreeing with most everyone here, it's not a damn witch hunt, it's women (and sometimes men) finally feeling like they'll be heard instead of just shamed and dismissed (which, by the way, one of the things people will sometimes say is 'well she didn't say no', like that makes it better)
  222.
  223. baboon62 9 hours ago ugh
  224.
  225. baboon62 9 hours ago this plurk is something else, man
  226.
  227. ಠ_ಠ 9 hours ago the same could be said about R Kelly's victims too, in reference to the Louis CK argument but that doesn't make them any less then victim
  228.
  229. kiwi840 9 hours ago and the way in which you started off this plurk was very dismissive of the women (and men) who have stepped forward. once someone makes an allegation of sexual assault or harassment, their lives are under the microscope and everything they've ever done will be dragged out as "proof" that they're lying. a woman says she was raped? she slept with that other
  230.
  231. kiwi840 9 hours ago guy, so clearly she just regretted it the morning after, and so on and so forth.
  232.
  233. kiwi840 9 hours ago victims coming out and saying they've been assaulted/harassed have so much more to lose than the men they're accusing, because the deck has always been stacked against them. this plurk reads as one more example of that fact.
  234.
  235. ಠ_ಠ 9 hours ago kiwi840: ..shit, I apologize then.
  236.
  237. baboon62 9 hours ago yeah, agreed, kiwi. as someone who had that happen to them - to say they felt sexually assaulted and then told that they hadn't said no, that they were drunk, etc, so they brought it on themselves, a plurk like this was
  238.
  239. baboon62 9 hours ago a very unpleasant reminder.
  240.
  241. baboon62 9 hours ago It takes an insane amount of courage to accuse someone. More than I think people realize.
  242.
  243. baboon62 9 hours ago You're- -or at least I was-- terrified of making a mistake.
  244.
  245. baboon62 9 hours ago You're terrified you won't be believed, that maybe you're wrong, that you'll start a whole lot of shit on something that isn't real.
  246.
  247. baboon62 9 hours ago So to confirm to yourself that it happened, and then to have the courage to say somethingespecially when it's a popular celebrity people love isn't something someone will fake.
  248.
  249. baboon62 9 hours ago ah, plurk, you and your strikes.
  250.
  251. ಠ_ಠ 9 hours ago it's rough lately trying to figure out what to think and believe anymore. my mind is being pulled one way and the other.
  252.
  253. ಠ_ಠ 9 hours ago one of the people I intensely follow got me questioning things today
  254.
  255. ಠ_ಠ 9 hours ago is this wrong or right? this person says some legit points but now I'm questioning everything here.
  256.
  257. melon934 9 hours ago What stands out to me is that someone farther up this plurk said they were crying. And I believe it. Saying things like this brings up a lot of ugly traumatic memories for survivors.
  258.
  259. melon934 9 hours ago I don’t know if whisper plurks can be edited, but I think you owe people an apology. Tbqh.
  260.
  261. melon934 9 hours ago A lot of people will mute this plurk or skim the first part and not bother reading down to the part where you started talking sense.
  262.
  263. ಠ_ಠ 9 hours ago melon934: unfortunately, i cant edit. didn't even see that part (that particular anon) but I owe many apologies
  264.
  265. peach546 6 hours ago Holy fucking shit.
  266.
  267. peach546 6 hours ago That's all I've got for you, OP. I can't believe you-- and you're not slick. Your entire tone changed the minute people outed you.
  268.
  269. ಠ_ಠ 6 hours ago peach546: I'm not trying to be slick. I'm just sorry and I'm gearing up for a formal apology
  270.
  271. bat8 5 hours ago listen, OP, this is not the first time i've seen you struggle with the idea of the people you like doing shitty things. i strongly urge you in all goodwill to take some time and examine your feelings about that. i can't help but think you knew people would have a serious issue with your original plurk when you chose to deliver it anonymously.
  272.
  273. ಠ_ಠ reply 5 hours ago I knew people would have some issues with my plurk but seriously to the point of tears? no. I'm not that far.
