1. It was sunset on Destiny Islands, and a lone figure stood on the small dock on the small island that children often visited to play in. But now, so late in the day, all of them had gone home to the mainland, leaving the teenaged girl by herself.
2.
3. She was standing perfectly still, breathing slow and controlled. Her eyes were closed, and she was concentrating intensely on the training at hand.
4.
5. "Complete peace of mind... absolute control..."
6.
7. Suddenly, her eyes snapped open, and she stepped into a wider stance, her arms beginning to move in a circular motion. As she moved her arms, blue electricity crackled from her hands, until she pointed quickly towards the sky. A bolt of blue lightning leapt from her fingertips, flying up into the sky before disappearing as quickly as it came.
8.
9. Naomi allowed herself a small smile after the successful bout of lightning generation, looking down at the dragon curled up on her backpack, sleeping. Chau just seemed content to not have to hide inside of the pack like he did in Empire City.
10.
11. She had gotten genuinely better at her control over lightning, but that was no reason to forgo practicing her normal Firebending. So thinking, she got to training. Punches launched balls of flame, slicing kicks arcs of fire. All with enough control to to not touch the dock below. She was so intent on the training, she wouldn't have noticed if anyone had been watching her, not that she would care.
12.
13. They would be getting a great show from a master Firebender, after all.
14.
15. ====
16.
17. Naomi, focused on her training, was unaware that another visitor just arrived in this world.
18.
19. Young Rozalin stepped out of the Save Point, hidden inside the Seaside Shack, concentrated in her own inner thoughts while at the same time taking a bit out of a chocolate bar in her hand.
20.
21. After her short visit to Traverse Town, as well as finally finding a place to stay, she decided to continue roam around the universe, looking for Interferences she could either cooperate with or learn about. She needed to become stronger quickly, the dream she had this morning only enforcing it...
22.
23. -------------------------------
24. As she opened her eyes to find herself once more in that strange place. The stained-glass platform that symbolized the depths of her heart. She already had such dream before, two times in fact. The first time was when she was dragged into this universe and woke up at the streets of Radiant Garden and with no memory of herself besides her name. The second time was after being captured by Cerberus, the shady organization from the Mass Effect Milky Way, and put asleep by the use of gas. There was the first time she met Thorns, the self-called "Real Rozalin" and the purple-haired girl's primary target.
25.
26. She looked down for a not so pleasant sight. The stained glass that once showed her own image was now with cracks all over it. Even more than the last dream she had.
27.
28. "This can't be good..."-she said to herself, soon someone responding. "Oh really? I find it pretty sweet myself..."
29. She rose her gaze once more to see someone else standing before her. A mirror image of Rozalin, except for the vicious look on her face and her more spiky hairstyle. "Thorns"-Rozalin growled. She was not happy of meeting her, specially after last time.
30.
31.
32. "Nice to see you again"-Thorns said with a wicked smile-"Like what I did with the place? Don't worry, it will become even better after a while..."
33.
34. "What are you planning!? You are breaking this apart! Real Rozalin or not, this is still your heart!!"
35.
36. That just caused the evil copy to laugh harder-"Do you even think I give a damn? This is all part of the plan. Let me put it in a way you can understand: There is something I REALLY wanna get rid of. Getting back in charge seems like the way to do it, and so is breaking myself out of this place. Sure, I don't even know if this is gonna work, for all I know, we'll just end up amnesiac again, or as brainless as a vegetable. But trust me, either way I win..."
37.
38. But before she could ask more, Rozalin was blinded by a powerful light and taken out of her dream.
39. -------------------------
40.
41. "I have to become stronger..."-Rozalin kept on repeating herself. However, her serious and concentrated face soon changed to surprise when she looked back at her hand and noticed how fast she devoured her chocolate bar.
42.
43. "I have to become stronger..."-she repeated-"...and buy more sweets next time I get the chance".
44.
45. She soon heard some noises coming from the outside, which just made her very curious. She peeked out of the shack's door to find a mysterious girl in what it looked like training. Arcs and balls of fire materializing and following her every move.
46.
47. Rozalin fully exited the shack and approached the small wooden dock where the girl was standing.-"Impressive"-she honestly said, at a safe distance from the flames.
48.
49. ====
50.
51. Naomi stopped when she heard the other girl, and turned to face her. She wasn't very impressed with what she saw. The purple-haired girl looked she could hardly throw a punch, much less survive in a full fight. Not that it was important; the Firebender didn't expect to be fighting Rozalin, and if her comment was anything to go by, she knew how to appreciate obvious skill anyways.
52.
53. "What's it to you?" She asked, jumping off the dock onto the sand below. Chau remained asleep on her backpack above, not even registering the new presence. Naomi crossed her arms, making sure to look as intimidating as her standards required.
54.
55. ====
56.
57. "N-nothing! I just arrived here and well, found you spawning flames all over the place"-said Rozalin said in her usual shy tone. Naomi's forwardness sort of caught her by surprise. Still, she didn't look like that bad of a person, so the purple haired girl decided to ask-"So...why did you pick this place for training?"
58.
59. "I-I mean, not to be rude or anything"-she then added-"But I don't see Interferences picking such a peaceful place for their training that much..."
60.
61. ====
62.
63. Naomi had to roll her eyes at the way this girl talked. She really needed to grow a backbone. She hated people like that, who couldn't throw their on weight around. Then again, she realized she hated most people once she thought about it. Still, this girl didn't seem that annoying, other than the utter lack of a spine. Not as annoying as some other people she had met, at least.
64.
65. "Seeing as there aren't any other master Firebenders out here, it's easier to just train my moves by myself." She explained this in a tone of voice that implied that this should be obvious, and Rozalin was just that less smart because she didn't.
66.
67. ====
68.
69. While she still felt somewhat intimidated by the girl, Rozalin was started to get annoyed by how she was being treated.
70.
71. "H-hey!"-Rozalin stepped forward, while still somewhat scared-"You shouldn't be acting like that to people you don't even know. I was just curious. Why the need to act so rude?"
72.
73. She didn't seem like a truly bad or evil person, Rozalin had to admit. But still, the rudeness was unnecessary.
74.
75. ====
76.
77. At this, the Firebender finally had to smile. It seemed like the girl had some fight in her after all. Fight that Naomi was all too ready to use for some easy practice. She dropped into a more fight-ready stance.
78.
79. "If I'm so rude, why don't you do something about it?" She raised her fists. "No one's gonna listen to you what you want if you aren't prepared to make them."
80.
81. ====
82.
83. "I don't want a fight!"-Rozalin replied. The nervous face she once held soon started to vanish-"I have just met you, I have nothing against you, and while I think you're a incredible rude person I can see you're not actually evil!"
84.
85. She locked her eyes on Naomi's as she continued-"However, I'm not gonna stand still and let some girl act like she is better than me and like if she had any authority to push me around!!"
86.
87. ====
88.
89. Naomi was grinning now, glad to have gotten a rise out of the other girl. So, she had a backbone after all, and was willing to stick up for herself. Some faith in humanity was restored. She shrugged at the girl. In honesty, Naomi wasn't looking for much of a fight either, she only wanted to push Rozalin's buttons.
90.
91. "Whatever. I'll just go back to training."
92.
93. ====
94.
95. Rozalin was really surprised. Where did all that courage came from? For once, she actually stood back. She couldn't help but smile slightly, but not while facing the other girl, as it looked like all her efforts to become stronger both physically and mentally were slowly starting to work.
96.
97. She wasn't able to tell if the girl did it on purpose to make her show her determination, or she was just being a bully to her. Either way, she was glad.-"What is your name, by the way?"-Rozalin asked.
98.
99. ====
100.
101. The Firebender went back to the dock she had been standing on, jumping up on sitting on the edge. She scratched Chau's head, who rumbled appreciatively in his sleep.
102.
103. "Naomi." She replied, pulling off her boots and socks (one of which had a rather large hole around the big toe). She wanted to practice on the sand, and she liked the feeling of it between her toes. Suddenly, she remembered that one usually asked the other person's name in response to them asking yours.
104.
105. "Yours?"
106.
107. ====
108.
109. Naomi stopped to consider Rozalin's question. She had honestly never counted how long she'd been an Interference. She had arrived, traveled around, met Karin and was with her for a while, as well as that moronic mage. Then she had spent some time on one world with that Cole guy.
110.
111. Giving up on a concrete number, she just shrugged, and said, "A while."
112.
113. After that, she settled into a basic fighting stance. Legs spread, and hands held loosely in front of her face. She went from this into some simple moves. Punches that shot fireballs, leg sweeps that created arcs of flame. She ended on a combined punch and kick, standing on one leg with the fist and foot out in front of her and angled upwards. A single combined stream of fire was shooting out from both appendages. She held the stream for as long as she could, and eventually dropped back onto both legs, panting somewhat, but grinning in exhilaration. Even practicing, Firebending was always something that got her blood pumping.
114.
115. ====
116.
117. Rozalin continued to be impressed. The confidence, the moves and the power Naomi was showing was very inspiring to her.
118.
119. Given that she was focused on her training, the purple-haired girl decided to practice some of the magic of her own. There was nothing wrong in exercise a little bit, specially in such crazy universe as this one.
120.
121. With a deep breath she looked downwards before closing her eyes as, in order to use her powers, she needed to feel the right emotion. She let her excitement fill her entire body, the feeling of being able to overcome the odds. Soon a magical wave of blue materialized around her fist. A cold chill moving from her spine, to her arm and to her hand...
122.
123. Rozalin then drove the fist into the sand with a punch, which created a short wave of blue spread on the ground, as well as leaving a mark of solid ice on the sands. She smiled at the sight of her Sapphire Strike working correctly, glad that she was able to transmit the correct emotion to fuel her move.
124.
125. She then proceeded to move to another spell, the one she called Ruby Rain.
126.
127. For this one, she had to fuel her anger, the need to kill and destroy. The first and last time she used this spell, she was recently captured by the leader of a small branch of Cerberus on the Mass Effect milky-way. After being drugged to sleep, then kidnapped, then cloned in a sick attempt to create an Interference army along some other travelers, all she could think back them was payback and to hurt everything that was in front of her.
128.
129. It hurt to remember something like that, but it sure did the trick. Fueling her anger, she rose her arms as a red aura covered her entire body. She forcefully move her arms down as a rain of small ruby spears appeared out of thin air and, as the name of the attack implied, rained upon the waters near the island.
130.
131. ====
132.
133. Naomi took a moment to watch as Rozalin did some weird magic stuff. The Firebender had a bit of a distrust of magic. It didn't seem right that anyone but the Avatar should be able to use more than one element, even if things were a lot different out here.
134.
135. And no matter how much anyone said so, Bending was not magic.
136.
137. Deciding to show off some more, Naomi focused, and flung her arm outwards, a whip of flame forming in her hand. It flew out, striking one of the gems before it could hit the water. Another whip, and other rubies were hit. As she flung out the fire whip, the ice that had formed from Rozalin's first for began to melt from the heat, darkening the sand beneath it.
138.
139. "Ain't nothing fire can't beat." She said as the last of the rubies fell into the water, and the fire whip dissipated.
