  1. * Go through and kill a bunch of tasks in the task scheduler. There is a whole bunch of crap taking up CPU time and other resources.
  2. * Remove them services hnnnng. Many can be stopped without hurting your system.
  3. * Set virtual mem to like 200MB or 400MB (set max==min so that it doesn't get resized). It needs to be like 200MB for error logs at most, but as long as you have adequate RAM at all times, that should be more than enough. I have 4GB RAM which I guess is considered 'small' but I run a light-weight setup and I haven't maxed out my RAM yet.
  4. * Services that I stopped that I kind of worried about but hasn't posed a problem for me (keep in mind some of these are HP specific, which is what my computer is).
  5. ** DNS Client
  6. ** Diagnostic Policy Service
  7. ** HPWMISVC
  8. ** Print Spooler
  9. ** Superfetch
  10. ** Themes
  11. ** Windows Image Acquisition
  12.
  13. Some of the registry entries that I edited (I forgot to keep track of all of them). I mostly wanted to get rid of those freaking folders. All I kept were Docs, Downloads, and Desktop:
  14. HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\FolderDescriptions\
  15. *** Toggle the Hide/Show value ***
  16. Documents: {f42ee2d3-909f-4907-8871-4c22fc0bf756}\PropertyBag
  17. Pictures: {0ddd015d-b06c-45d5-8c4c-f59713854639}\PropertyBag
  18. Videos: {35286a68-3c57-41a1-bbb1-0eae73d76c95}\PropertyBag
  19. Downloads:{7d83ee9b-2244-4e70-b1f5-5393042af1e4}\PropertyBag
  20. Music: {a0c69a99-21c8-4671-8703-7934162fcf1d}\PropertyBag
  21. Desktop: {B4BFCC3A-DB2C-424C-B029-7FE99A87C641}\PropertyBag
  22. OneDrive (set DWORD==0)
  23. HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\CLSID\{018D5C66-4533-4307-9B53-224DE2ED1FE6}
  24.
  25. Go through and delete all the crapware that you don't need. Want to remove Cortana? Stop all of the associated services, set the file permissions so that your account has all permissions (there are ways to do this recursively, too) and then just delete the contents.
