  1. [9:02 AM] Manifold: my personal examples are that I was happy to redo parts of cath relationship advice when you explained stuff like "she's too ditzy here, and having a bunch of relationship advice asks instead of just 3 is too socially incomptent for her, etc."
  2.
  3. whereas being told my first draft of romance corner payoff wasn't what you want and seeing the rewritten version be 2.5k words when i was originally told to keep it under 1k hurt, b/c I didn't feel I got a fair shot at the scene
  4.
  5. or I know I didn't do a good job with sorority party intro, but again I wouldn't have felt bad if I got feedback and a second shot; instead, being told it was tech correct but not right, and the rewrite being handed over to someone else, made me feel like a shitty writer (which to be clear, I got over and am not holding against you)
  6. [9:03 AM] Manifold: To repeat, these examples aren't criticisms, they're just meant to explain my perspective when it comes to the suggestions I'm making as far as stuff like morale and rewrites
  7. [9:03 AM] olivinearc: ohhhh i see
  8. [9:03 AM] olivinearc: yeah i kinda view it as a tactics game
  9. [9:04 AM] olivinearc: or like pokemon
  10. [9:04 AM] olivinearc: fire type to help support the ice type
  11. [9:04 AM] olivinearc: who gets the ground types
  12. [9:04 AM] Manifold: like having a second person give a makeover to a scene or support makes sense
  13. [9:05 AM] Manifold: but I feel like if you're going to make the scene change to the point that the first person's might as well not have existed, you should give the first person a shot
  14. [9:06 AM] olivinearc: ah yeah that has been an issue
  15. [9:06 AM] olivinearc: from my perspective it feels like
  16. [9:07 AM] olivinearc: what's the metaphor, like
  17. [9:07 AM] olivinearc: the longer you spend on something the harder it gets to work with?
  18. [9:07 AM] olivinearc: which feels relevant to writing
  19. [9:08 AM] Manifold: I think this is true but
  20. [9:08 AM] Manifold: the difficulty meter resets when you get feedback
  21. [9:08 AM] olivinearc: does it?
  22. [9:08 AM] olivinearc: it usually gets me more huffy
  23. [9:10 AM] Manifold: I think in this case it does since
  24. [9:10 AM] Manifold: it's meant to be an adjustment toward getting the writer and director on the same page as to what the scene is supposed to be
  25. [9:11 AM] Manifold: Like if the instructions become clearer in draft 1 or the vision changes for draft 2, it's like a fresh start
  26. [9:12 AM] olivinearc: hmmmm
  27. [9:13 AM] olivinearc: workable
  28. [9:13 AM] olivinearc: something like building up the stats of the worker
  29. [9:13 AM] olivinearc: vs minmax...
  30. [9:13 AM] Manifold: Maybe it's different for the rest of the group, in which fair enough because you have to do what works best as a whole
  31. [9:16 AM] olivinearc: i mean it's worth a shot as any!
  32. [9:17 AM] Manifold: I'm just testifying that at the very least, I personally felt like shit when I didn't get the chance to make the changes to the draft and mine were effectively deleted, and it felt like it was pointless to have me on the team
  33. [9:19 AM] Manifold: and I think I would've been happier in those situations if I was asked to make the revisions
  34. [9:20 AM] olivinearc: oh, okay 0:
  35. [9:20 AM] olivinearc: i think i can understand where you're coming from
  36. [9:21 AM] Manifold: right but what's your thoughts on it
  37. [9:21 AM] Manifold: as applies to the specific situations, or as it applies to the group as a whole, or as it applies to the big picture rewrite situation you're thinking down the road
  38. [9:21 AM] olivinearc: i think when put like that i just deal with it on a project wide scale
  39. [9:22 AM] olivinearc: since on a project i'd care less about my work getting rewritten but my plotlines are getting rewritten rn but i'm not happy about it
  40. [9:24 AM] Manifold: maybe think of it this way, though: if you do the rewrite and get it right the second time after feedback, what if that feedback carries over and increases the chance of getting it more right the first time on the next scene? whereas getting it wrong the first time and giving it to a second person increases the likelihood the first person gets it wrong the first time again next scene
  41. [9:25 AM] olivinearc: i'd have to think about the math of distribution since there's multiple people on a route
  42. [9:25 AM] Manifold: that's fair
