- My Issues With The Pit
- To whoever this may concern,
- I have been playing in the Pit for a sufficient amount of time to have enough problems that warrant emailing you about them. There are certain issues with this new gamemode that I feel should be addressed, whether it be bugs that are most likely undergoing repairs as I type this, or certain quirks to the gamemode that were intentionally put there. Bear in mind (as I’m sure you will have already gathered) I am not in charge of the way this minigames turns out and how well it functions. Since the game is in beta-testing I thought I would give a first-hand experience, some feedback, etc. I personally believe the game is a very fun execution of a seemingly worn-out concept, but again, there are certain things to it that almost ruin the experience for me.
- My number one gripe with this new gamemode is the teaming. In my mind, I envision this giant mosh pit where everyone is at each other’s throats and battling it out with chaos surrounding everything. What I do not envision is a team of 5 hiding in hedges and shooting people with bows off of bridges in a particular section, and whenever one person gets spotted the rest of the team reveal themselves and stab the poor man to death in about 2 seconds flat. I describe this particular scenario in vivid detail, and you may be wondering whether it’s a crazy wacky-tacky exaggeration. The issue with that is that it’s not; the fact that I’ve had this exact situation happen to me four times with a sum total of 20 different people. It is absolutely not fun to deal with, and I believe this applies to everyone. I understand the free-for-all concept is meant for people to do as they choose; you can either stab a guy yourself or have a friend help you out so that you have a higher survival rate. I can understand that, and that’s way I propose this change: There should only be 2 or 3 people on a team, as otherwise it creates an absolutely unfair advantage. I believe the majority of the playtesting community would likely have my back on this, though I could be mistaken.
- My second biggest complaint is the diamond equipment. This will definitely not be backed up by a majority, but this is a personal problem with me, as I’ve been in situations where I can pull a full out 7 block combo on someone in a 1v1 only for them to three shot me with a diamond sword. However, I can see why this isn’t backed up by a majority, as the situation I’ve described above still fits; it’s a chaotic anarchy free-for-all with people stabbing each other. Diamond armor (and by extension, a diamond sword) provide a “survival of the fittest” vibe to the Pit. However, I have a simple proposal, which will lessen the situation will still providing that original sense to the Pit: simply nerf the diamond armor/sword to Protection I and Sharpness I iron. However, this isn’t as big of a problem in my honest opinion.
- I have a few more minor issues, which I will simply list off here: The launchpads are rather dysfunctional and seem to launch me into a different area then I want to go. I’ve stood on the far right of a launchpad and be dragged left. There’s also the matter of one of the blimps in the Sky Area actually causing me to fall early and whenever you are knocked off and sent into the void you have a chance of being respawned facing the wrong area altogether. There seems to be a lot of amplified toxicity when it comes to the Pit chat as a whole, with hack accusations, a metric ton of swearing, flames, etc. However, there already is a solution to the problem, that being the ToggleChat mod. However, it is a very definitive problem which is very visible, and for the poor Steve that wanders into this anarchy nightmare and sees all of this it might ruin their impression of the server. My last complaint is that there’s a very specific meta to the Pit: Heads, rod, and strength. I think that there should be other perks which could provide different playstyles and is not confined to one specific set, or at the very least distractions to those sets. However, I think contacts are already doing that, so very good work there.
- Overall, I find the Pit to be very enjoyable aside from those few tweaks. Obviously, we might not have the same vision for this particular gamemode, but since it is in beta-testing I figured I’d pitch in my two cents. It’s up to you whether you would like to implement these changes (and I hope the launchpad gets fixed, because that is a definite problem), but otherwise I’d like to thank you for reading through the full thesis.
- Sincerely,
- Keqt
- A slight sidenote: Is there a way to make your donation servers U.S. compatible? I had some $50 gift cards specific to U.S vendors a while back, and I would’ve definitely bought MVP+ if I had the chance. Please do try and let me know if there are any ways to circumvent this and I will definitely make sure to try again sometime in the future! Thanks!
