- Softlock - A mechanism that artificially limits the function of a device to avoid unnecessary hazards. The mechanism can be overridden by the operator.
- Example - Eagle Sprinter Tank - The right side gun can normally only aim forward, right, and backward, but the softlock can be disabled to allow the gun to aim almost anywhere, including low- and left-enough that it would shoot the tank. This is useful for when the tank is against a barrier or incline so the gun is elevated enough that it would be able to shoot across to the left of the tank, or if an enemy is trying to board the tank.
