  1. Ebooks
  2. These are the allowed formats for ebook uploads:
  3.
  4. EPUB AZW3 MOBI
  5. PDF DJVU
  6. CBR, CHM, & TXT formats are deprecated and no longer allowed for new uploads. Any remaining torrents in those formats are trumpable.
  7.
  8. Conversions between flowable and fixed formats are not allowed.
  9. There are fundamental differences in how "flowable" formats (like EPUB or AZW3) and "fixed" formats (like PDF) display text, and conversions between the two types are not acceptable.
  10.
  11. Do not upload books converted from a flowable format to a fixed format, or vice versa. If you download an older torrent that is clearly a conversion between the two types, file a report and a staff member will remove it. Only in rare cases, such as when there is no other version available, will such conversions be allowed (and only with staff approval).
  12.
  13. Filenames must clearly identify their contents.
  14. At the very least, ebook filenames should contain the title of the book. Ideally, the name of the primary author is also included. For books likely to have multiple editions (e.g., The Iliad), including information about the specific edition or translation is highly recommended as this avoids filename conflicts and/or file overwriting when downloading multiple editions.
  15.
  16. Torrent titles must clearly identify the ebook's title and edition/series (if any).
  17. To ensure consistency, please follow the naming conventions for ebooks.
  18.
  19. Creators and contributors should be accurately listed.
  20. In addition to "Authors", there are a number of creator options available for an ebook torrent. If there are additional people aside from an author who contributed to an ebook, those names should be listed according to their role (do not simply list them all in the "Author(s)" field).
  21.
  22. At the very least, an ebook torrent must include at least one of the following two options:
  23.
  24. Author(s): For books listed as having one or more "main authors", those names should be included as authors.
  25. Editor(s): For books that are edited collections, the names of who edited the collection should be added as editors and not as authors.
  26. There may also be books with both author and editor listings; in such cases, add both (in the proper fields).
  27.
  28. In cases where there are additional individuals listed as contributing to a book, the following options should be used:
  29.
  30. Translator(s): For books that have been translated from a different language, the translator(s) should be included as they are listed in the book.
  31. Contributor(s): For books that include additional authors who made smaller contributions to the book, for example if a separate person wrote the introduction or preface, or if there are several separate authors included in a short story collection, they should be added as contributors and not as "main authors".
  32. Each torrent should only include a single format.
  33. A torrent containing both EPUB and MOBI versions of a title is not acceptable.
  34.
  35. Each torrent should only include a single ebook.
  36. Separate ebooks must be uploaded as separate torrents. Packs are not allowed. If you wish to gather related books or books of the same series, you may do so with the Collections system instead, once you've achieved the required user class.
  37.
  38. Related media should be included, if applicable.
  39. If the ebook was officially distributed with accompanying media, like audio or video, it can be added to the torrent. This might include language exercise audio files or CDs with code examples, for example.
  40.
  41. Uploads should not be archived.
  42. Proper uploads should only contain the single ebook file. In the rare case when multiple files are necessary, all files should be uncompressed and stored in a single folder.
  43.
  44. Multiple formats may coexist.
  45. EPUB and MOBI versions of a book, for example, are not considered dupes. Each format, however, must still be uploaded as a separate torrent. Non-retail AZW3 and MOBI formats are considered dupes, since AZW3 tends to be an improved version of MOBI. Retail AZW3 and retail MOBI versions of the same book/edition, however, are currently allowed to coexist.
  46.
  47. Include the fewest number of files possible.
  48. For example, torrents should not consist of multiple PDF files with one file per page or chapter. These pages should be compiled into one easy-to-use file. Preserving the "retail" status of an upload is not a valid exception to this rule; individual chapters should be merged and uploaded as a non-retail PDF.
  49.
  50. Proprietary, non-standard formats are not allowed.
  51. Some companies use proprietary formats that extend standard formats (such as EPUB) in a proprietary way incompatible with widely available reader software. The most prominent example is Apple with its iBooks Author format, which looks like EPUB but is not EPUB.
  52.
  53. Do not upload ebooks in these proprietary formats. We only allow the standard book formats listed at the beginning of this section. If unclear or unsure, ask before uploading. If you come across a torrent containing books in non-standard formats, file a report and a staff member will remove it.
