  10. Hello!
  11.
  12. I'd like to invite you to apply to my job. Please review the job post and apply if you're available.

  19. Hi,
  20.
  21. I work as a Linux Systems Administrator for a reputable hosting company in the US and would be happy to assist. What type of web hosting plan do you have (Shared, VPS, Dedicated, etc)?
  22.
  23. I can take a look today, if you'd like.
  24.
  25. Cheers,
  26. Dustin

  32. Also, what is the command you are issuing when you receive the errors? If you still need help I will be available for the next few hours, and any time after 9AM (CST) tomorrow.
  33.
  34. Cheers!

  40. hi
  41.
  42.
  43. I discovered the error. My hosting was shared. I needed VPS. Are you familiar with Amazon AWS?

  63. What do you need to know?
  64.

  66. 3:53 PM
  67. Dustin Miller
  68. Just any information regarding that application that may be relevant to the migration such as required software, dependencies, etc.
  69.
  70.
  71. Is it a custom application you developed, a third party application with documentation, etc.
  72.
  73. BC
  74. 3:54 PM
  75. Brendan Carling
  76. Gee, I dont know. The only thing I know if that shared hosting was no good. I need VPS. It's a web application used LaRavel framework.
  77.
  78.
  79. It's something I collaborated in.

  84. No worries, I'm sure I could figure it out. I need to leave in a few minutes to pick up my fiance from work, however, so I won't be available to take a look for 1.5-2 hours. Also, honestly, I would need to adjust my current bid to $50, it would be a more involving job. If all of that is okay with you I can message you when I get home and we can go from there. I understand if you'd rather post a new job and find a cheaper rate, though.

  89. It's a simple web application that records interactions between a homeless charity and rough sleepers.
  90.

  92. 3:57 PM
  93. Dustin Miller
  94. Is rough sleepers the new PC term for homeless people? I've never heard it phrased quite like that.
  95.
  96. BC
  97. 3:58 PM
  98. Brendan Carling
  99. Im not sure. It's just a term I use. lol. A homeless person is someone who has not a home of their own. But they may not be sleeping on the street. They could be staying with family or sleeping on friend's sofas.
  100.
  101.
  102. A rough sleeper is a homeless person who has to sleep on the street.
  103.
  104.
  105. Im not sure if I've explained the difference clearly.
  106.
  107.
  108. Not all homeless people are forced to sleep on the street.

  113. Yeah, that's indeed a valid point.

  139. Only the shit-storms. I tend to avoid politics and religion like the plague, otherwise.
  140.
  141.
  142. For example, I only need to know that John McCain died, not how people feel about it. Anything more than that just gets messy.

  150. Politics are a touchy subject in USA.
  151.
  152.
  153. The rep/dem thing is like the Brexit thing in the UK.
  154.
  155.
  156. Saying you are one or the other is likely to piss people off. They take it very personally if your politics isn't the same as theirs.
  157.
  158. DM
  159. 5:46 PM
  160. Dustin Miller
  161. Yeah, and no single party has everything right and the average voter is under-educated and misinformed. I'm sure a lot of hardcore reps/dems would be surprised to discover what it is they actually support.
  162.
  163.

  175. 6:09 PM
  176. Dustin Miller
  177. Not really, I am just a Linux Admin, I don't do any programming, just some server side scripting. I could move an app from one server to another but troubleshooting the code itself is usually not something I take on.
  178.

  185. So about my project.
  186.
  187. DM
  188. 6:16 PM
  189. Dustin Miller
  190. I'm comfortable installing and configuring php and it's various modules/dependencies. Happy to take a look at it and obviously there would be no cost if for some reason I can't get it working, but like I said I would need to increase my bid to $50 since it would be setting up a server from scratch, finding and resolving dependencies, etc versus the simple troubleshooting of the original project.
  191.
  192. BC
  193. 6:26 PM
  194. Brendan Carling
  195. There was no troubleshooting required. It just wasn't possible.
  196.
  197.
  198. Ok. Well thanks for the interest and the bid. I will speak to some other freelancers and get their bids.
  199.
  200. DM
  201. 6:29 PM
  202. Dustin Miller
  203. Yeah, I get that, that's why I was asking about your hosting package initially. Seems like you were mostly just lacking the php-gd module which is an easy fix compared to setting up a new server and migrating to it, so ruling out Shared hosting was my first troubleshooting step. Regardless, best of luck, let me know if I can be of any assistance.

  253. It's just that I thought it was pretty clear that I need my web application hosted on AWS.
  254.
  255.
  256. Because my first message to you was to ask if you are able to upload files to AWS.
  257.
  258. 10:29 PM
  259. Im told that I can bring up an ec2 instance - someone has sent an image with all the configuring done for the web application.
  260.
  261.
  262. I dont know if that makes any sense to you.
  263.
  264. 10:32 PM

  268. 10:37 PM
  269. Dustin Miller
  270. Well, that's true, but you also previously told me you were looking into other freelancers and I already withdrew my bid, so I wasn't sure what it was you were wanting from me. I've already told you I could migrate the application to AWS, and I could have had it done four hours ago.
  271.
  272.
  273. Sure, you can load an EC2 instance from a custom image pretty easily.
  274.
  275. BC
  276. 10:38 PM
  277. Brendan Carling
  278. Ah. Sorry. I didn't realise you withdrew your bid.
  279.
  280.
  281. No problem.
  282.
  283.
  284. Im sure its fantastically easy,,,,,if you know how to do it.
  285.
  286. DM
  287. 10:43 PM
  288. Dustin Miller
  289. Yeah, I withdrew it when you said you were looking for other freelancers. Happy to help if you need it, I just withdrew to clean up my list of projects. I'm sure it's quite easy as well, but I had to increase my bid to $50 since it's more involving than simply installing a PHP module. My original bid would have netted me about $24, and I don't even get out of bed for $24 lol. I'm sure you can find someone from India or a similarly cheap country to do it for less though.
  290.

  312. I've never migrated a laravel project specifically but I work with Linux, AWS, and software I'm not personally familiar with every day, professionally. I couldn't recite to you every specific step, but I could figure out how to do it in a short amount of time. It's just what I do.
  313.
  314.
  315. If someone has sent you a pre-made image, that's even easier, really.

  506. A free way to host a php application? I can't really think of a way i'd recommend. Is this a high volume application? Do you have any idea how much CPU/RAM/DISK space it needs?
  507.
  508.
  509. AWS is pretty cheap as long as you don't spin up an instance that is larger than you need.

  561.
  562.
  563. Alternatively, if you can provive me ssh access to wherever the app is originally hosted I could try to migrate it manually. If there is indeed an image that exists to deploy this application that would definitely be preferable but I'll take what I can get.

  738. Wales was officially recognised as a country in December 2011 by the influential International Organisation for Standardisation (ISO) - but it hasn’t really been a Principality for hundreds of years.
  739.
  740. Despite the relatively recent recognition of Wales as a country, even though it has its own National Assembly, anthem, language and our own rugby and football teams, it hasn’t been a Principality since the 16th century.

  785. "Wales was a principality, once upon a time. But that was in 1542. 472 years ago… 472 years.
  786.
  787. Wales is a country. A nation. We have our own laws. We have a Government, a legislature.
  788.
  789. But what, pray tell, is a "principality"?
  790.
  791. The Oxford English Dictionary describes a principality as being: "The territory held or governed by a prince."
  792.
  793. Now some may offer the Prince of Wales up as an answer to the issue at hand, but that would be wholly inappropriate, since Charles holds no constitutional responsibility over our homeland. His designation is granted by the Queen, and is an entirely traditional title.
  794.
  795. No, Wales is a country (472 years-worth of country-dom, remember!).
  796.
  797. In fact, in 2008 the Welsh Government issued a statement on this very issue:
  798.
  799. "Wales is not a principality. Although we are joined with England by land, and we are part of Great Britain, Wales is a country in its own right."
  800.
  801. So that's that. Now let's get on with supporting Team Wales! C'MON CYMRU!"

  836. It's not about whether or not Wales is a country, I give no shits about Wales. The UK is like 40x smaller than the US, I pretty much only think about it when Ricky Gervais has a new comedy special...It's about your general attitude over the past 24 hours.
