Yunao of the Xinzuoying

Yunao is one of the 20 remaining members of the Xinzuoying clan, a rather obscure clan of low-ranked bandits hidden along a stretch of desert land. The Xinzuoying clan was built between a unity of poor families and sheltered orphans all with the common interest of stealing materials from those who deserve to have it stolen.
This all changed, however, when a wandering rogue from the Chitin clan discovered their base village, on a mission for a valuable item he was hired to retrieve for a high-paying noble. More than willing to let their pride get the better of them, the clan was singlehandedly decimated by the wanderer, 58 members being slaughtered carelessly in the carnage. Yunao's father, one of the (supposedly) strongest warriors in the clan offered his then-13-year-old son to the wanderer in exchange for keeping the remaining legacy of the Xinzuoying alive, telling him behind the wanderer's back to stop and nothing until he fulfills a promise to destroy the foundation of the Chitin for revenge once he grows strong enough.

Accepting the offer in about an "eh, why not" fashion as possible after retrieving the stolen item, Yunao was taken into the Chitin as an honorary member/glorified slave who worked at a very grunt level for their lower ranked missions, learning a few of the Chitin's prized techniques along the way via grueling training. Being one of the more promising lower-ranked mercenaries, Yunao let this achievement get to his head pretty easily and turned traitorous on the Chitin clan, attempting to destroy the Chitin starting with the wanderer responsible for this mess in the first place.
Obviously, Yunao got FUCKED!!!! UP!!! pretty easily considering a low ranked mercenary is still just that, and was accidentally beaten to an inch of his life after the wanderer tried going easy on him. While they were going to let this slide, their kerfuffle was caught by an official to their current family who quickly reported a rogue slave in their midst. As the wanderer belonged to one of the crueler Chitin families, any ally born outside the family was quickly executed upon the slightest hint of treason. Seeing at least a slight degree of potentential in him, the Wanderer helped Yunao escape, and basically told him "Well you're on your own kid, try revenge-killing me in about a year or two when you get stronger, you got potential" before leaving him off in the nearest convenient deserted wasteland.

About a year had passed since then, and Yunao had made a good name for himself as an unusually strong and adaptive bandit, sometimes working on-again-off-again with other bandit groups but mostly stealing for himself, and probably along the way he ends up antagonizing one of the other PCs, and blah blah I want to get stronger so I can become a better mercenary than the man who slaughtered by clan, and that's probably where he's introduced in the story.
