  1. You are Anon, and you are very hungry.
  2. It's your lunch break from what you call a job and rather than pack some instant ramen like you usually do, you made the decision to eat out.
  3. Fast food is out of the question, you're bored of the stuff anyway. It also can't take too much time out of your day since your supervisor has started getting on your ass about that.
  4. As you check your phone, you spot a small (and thanks to the neon 'OPEN' sign', clearly a restaurant) establishment. The place has a distinctly retro aesthetic, with the colors, the faux metal paint, and even the name: Lady Tron's.
  5. Alright, your interest is piqued, time to see if the place is any good. Stepping through the door, you can finally see how small inside is. It looks like whoever owns the place is just setting up as there's no customers, and there are shelves in the back that just have empty space on them.
  6. Another thing absent is the owner themselves, but after taking a step closer to the counter, you see a toque that had been blending in with the back wall bouncing back and forth. Clearing your throat, you get their attention.
  7. A female robot with a head of red (with a single streak of yellow) hair pops up. A nub with a ring floating around it sticks out from her head, probably some kind of antennae.
  8. She's got a blue dress-like chassis and forelimbs with silvery joints, a plain yellow apron, and a belt to hold the apron on.
  9. "Well, hi there!" A chipper synthesized voice comes from her mouth. She flashes a smile, revealing a large pair of gapped teeth. "Welcome to Lady Tron's!"
  10. "And I assume you're Lady Tron?" Dummy, who else could it be? Lady Tron seems to notice and chuckles a little, "Yup, that's me! Uh, but you can call me LT for short."
  11. "Well LT, what do you make here?" The automata pulls out a menu for you. "We sell soups and sandwiches. I would give you a soda too, but the big fridge isn't here yet."
  12. "So why are you open now if you aren't completely set up?" LT waves her hand. "Aw you know how it is, you pay for them to deliver directly to you and they end up a day late. It's sort of the same with the knick-knacks people donated to me." "Knick-knacks?" You ask. She points to the empty shelves behind her. "Can't have a kitschy restaurant without 'em, right? Those donations seem to have stopped for the moment, so I'll see if I can't get them all up tomorrow."
  13. She grins, shaking her head before looking at you again. "Anyways, consider this my soft opening. What can I get you?" Glancing at the menu, you decide to start with the first sandwich, The LT. "Understood!"
  14.
  15. LT takes the ingredients out and prepares to cook, letting you sit down and watch as you are given a few minutes to think for a bit.
  16. It was still pretty amusing that after so many advancements in robotics, machines could think and speak like a human, but there still hadn't been any significant progress getting out of the uncanny valley, so the robot designers just said "Fuck it" and stopped trying to make them look human.
  17. You had not the faintest idea of how AIs were developed, but you got the general premise behind it. From what you understood, the field of work it'd be for would be the starting point, and the personality would organically develop via a virtual environment. You don't know what they do when they get a defective personality, but you just assumed it was as simple as blanking the AI and starting over.
  18. With robots being given increasingly more options for independent actions, they had been granted the right to start their own businesses for about five years now, so Lady Tron was no outlier.
  19. Back to reality, Lady Tron has completed your sandwich. She slides it over and patiently watches for your reaction. You take a bite.
  20. It's actually really damn good. Turns out beef, bacon, and chile queso work perfectly together. Swallowing the piece of sandwich, you tell LT what you think. "It's fantastic, the best sandwich I've had in a long while." "Aw, thank you kindly." she says, beaming.
  21. Finishing your sandwich, you pay for your meal. "Tell your friends!" LT calls out as you leave. "Definitely." you reply.
  22.
  23. Turns out word of mouth works really well as steadily more and more people showed up at Lady Tron's as you came back every other day. As she had said, the fridge for the sodas arrived the after your first visit, as did the knick-knacks she had mentioned. They were classic sci-fi memorabilia and the sort. You wondered if she had even watched the series they were based on.
  24. Today was a whole week after your first visit. At one of the only two tables in the place was a family of three. The parents are enjoying the specials of the day, while the little boy seems content with his soup. LT waves and calls out to you as you enter. "Anon, hey!" You grin, taking an empty spot at the counter.
  25. You order another LT sandwich, which you just wanted to eat again. While she cooks, Lady Tron speaks up. "Thank you kindly, business is really picking up now!" "So I've been meaning to ask," you say as LT quizzically looks at you, "why the whole retro sci-fi aethestic?"
  26. LT laughs, "Well it's a little embarrassing. When my personality was developing, I started watching archived science fiction media from the database, and I dunno, I guess they just resonated with me. I spent sooo many sessions just binging them." she says gesturing to her body. "And if you can believe it, they even gave me a custom-built bod for all that!"
  27. You giggle, "You're right, I don't believe it! What possessed 'em to do that?" Making a puffed cheeks expression, due to being made of metal, and a 'Humph' noise, she retorts, "Don't say it like he did it on a whim!" Her face turns becomes nervous-looking and she blushes a darker shade of grey, "Because, I uh... was so passionate describing my love for the genre."
