  1. Hi,
  2.
  3. Wasn't sure where to put this questions since it's main purpose is security based on hard and software.
  4.
  5. I'm always looking for the most security and my question is related to the front-line of my defense, a Cisco ASA 5506-X hanging right off my cable modem.
  6.
  7. I'd like to get some thoughts from others about swapping out a Cisco 5506-X for an OpenWRT solution (e.g., WRT1900AC). I know the latter has stability issues, but that aside (because I believe eventually fixes will release), smart or dumb move?
  8.
  9. My reasons.
  10.
  11. Pro's OpenWRT:
  12. - no more license purchases
  13. - open source, updates often
  14. - more configuration options
  15.
  16. Cisco Con's:
  17. - always hearing about cisco back doors in the news
  18. - purchasing licenses is a RPITA from cisco, every year
  19.
  20. I understand all software has exploits, but mainly, I'd like to know if I've missed any glaring or obvious reasons why one might be better than the other and that this isn't just an inexperienced newb decision.
  21.
  22. Thoughts?
