  1. "Mass wow gold Effect." "World of Warcraft." "Borderlands." Those three games don have too much in common, but Bungie "Destiny" managed to remind me of all three of them in the 25 minutes I spent with the game at E3 2014. Due out Sept. 9, this sprawling sci fi adventure seamlessly blends online role playing and tight first person shooting to create a package that has something for everyone.
  2.
  3. Our PS4 gameplay demo began on The Tower, a hub world that stands as the last city on Earth in Bungie bleak future. This is where the game felt most like a massively multiplayer online RPG, as we ran around freely in the third person, visited shops, interacted with other players and even busted out a few dance moves when we felt it necessary.
  4.
  5. After getting a feel for our surroundings, we embarked on a story mission set in Old Russia. This locale is infested with an ancient, clawed enemy species called The Hive, and it was our job to enter a rusted compound at night and clean it free of them.
  6.
  7. The shooting in "Destiny" felt familiar and tight, employing a common FPS control scheme similar to that of "Call of Duty." Playing as the heavily armored Titan class alongside two teammates, we instantly got into a groove of popping enemy Hive with our Pulse Rifle and sprinting and double jumping to safety. Navigating Old Russia never felt like much of a chore, as we were able to get our "Return of the Jedi" on whenever we wanted by summoning the game Shrike, or speeder bike.
  8.
  9. Things got a bit challenging as we approached the Hive Wizard at the heart of the compound, but we had a secret weapon ready. As with many fighting and action games, "Destiny" features a super meter that fills up as you kill enemies and collect resources. Once the bar is full, it time to unleash your character signature ability.
  10.
  11. We did just that. After triggering our Titan "Fist of Havoc," our character leaped high into the air and plummeted to the ground with his fists, creating a massive shock wave that crippled anyone within a few feet radius. This moment was nothing short of dopamine inducing, as we leveled up and collected a surge of bonuses after clearing the room with our big move. Fans of biotic characters in the "Mass Effect" series should get a kick out of this power, and we couldn help performing it over and over again.
  12.
  13. Our next mission took us to a more serene, snow covered portion of Old Russia, where we were tasked with collecting docking caps for our crew. This is where the game felt like the loot heavy "Borderlands" series, as we scavenged an open area for resources while taking out any alien foes that stood in our way.
  14.
  15. We eventually found ourselves in one of the game many public spaces, where we revived a complete stranger playing online in the game's current Alpha build. In Bungie new vision for the FPS genre, you never alone in the universe.
  16.
  17. We had a ton of fun getting a taste of co op action in "Destiny," and we barely scratched the surface of what the game has to offer. In addition to Story and Tower mode, you can take on waves of enemies in the arcade style Strike mode, leisurely roam the universe in Explore mode and prove who best in the competitive Crucible mode. Bungie never failed to deliver a complete package with the "Halo" series, and "Destiny" looks to take that concept to the extreme.
  18.
  19. Perhaps the only type of gamer who won find something to like in "Destiny" is the old school offline FPS fan. To maintain its vast and persistent online world, "Destiny" requires you to always be connected to the Internet to play.
  20.
  21. "Destiny" launches Sept. 9 on PS4, PS3, Xbox One, Xbox 360 and PC, but you can play it early on PlayStation 4. The game is currently in alpha release on Sony's latest console, and PS4 gamers get first dibs on the beta when it comes out July 17.
