        Why It Might Happen:
SAM        -Fans have been asking forever
            -Would be an easy way to add new content to USUMO to make fans happy

        How It Could Be Done:
JOHN    -Have Pokemon Walk Behind you lul
            -Bring back the features (show how big it is + shiny color)
        -Talking to your Pokemon could open up Pokemon Refresh/Give you the option to do that
        -You could choose to have your Pokemon as a Pokemon you ride on depending on what type of Pokemon it is
        -Maybe give you Pokemon small accessories (Krookodile glasses from the anime + Squirtle gang stuff)

        Why It Would Be Awesome:
BOTH    -Everyone wants this back
        -Cherished by Pokemon fans
        -Makes the game more personal + you get more attached to your mons
        -More immersive
        -Just looks better

Pokemon Gyms in Alola!

Why It Might Happen:
-Much loved and characteristic feature of the entire series
-POkemon League just built in Alola - earning Gym badges for a league is the same all over the pokemon world, maybe now they will be implemented in Alola?
-Construction sites dotted around Alola may elude to this - are they future gyms?
-In recent Game Informer magazine, information that Island Trials were an after-thought. They re-used mechanics that were already implemented in the game as there were no resources to make anything different for the trials. Gyms were potentially going to be included in Sun and Moon but got canned!

How It Could Happen

Construction sites turned into gyms. New puzzles implemented dependent on the gym's position. 8 gyms - 2 per island? Once you get your badges, you face the league.

Old friends now gym leaders?
Could even have Nanu as 1st dark type gym leader! Might give more structure to the Kahuna battles too.
