  1. 18:12] The castle was bold on the blue beyond. It stood there as if conjured from the storybook of a child. It was perfect. Amy imagined unicorns in the courtyard, because if those towers could exist, why not? Every stone was even and square, as if those who built were set on perfection, as if they really loved what they made. They were walls made to protect a community, to echo with laughter and be the shelter they needed for the millennia to come.
  2.
  3. Petrakis castle was bold on the blue beyond, and looked over the rest of the city like it had been conjured from a storybook. Every stone was even and square, as if those who built it were set on on perfection - these walls weren't made to simply protect the city, but to inspire those that lived within it. it is more ancient than any bone left in the soil, but as pristine as the armor of the blonde-haired knight that stood at its gates, waiting patiently for a crowd to gather.
  4.
  5. And once they did, he gestures out with both white-gloved hands, emerald-cut eyes taking in the faces. Most of them were unfamiliar, but some he recognized. "Welcome, all! If you're here for the display on holy magic, then please, do follow me through the gates," Elijah softly urged, before making a turn for the open entrance. The knights that flanked to either side of him were expected to follow.
  6.
  7. Within the courtyard, the grass is freshly cut and the rosevines are trimmed and proper, as you would expect. Though the sweet smell of summer flowers is also intermingled with the odour of horses - some out in the open, some asleep in their enclosures. This wasn't the same as the noble manors, it was a giant structure for each and every member of The First Light, whether they're a seasoned veteran or a fresh cadet. The training grounds were also nearby -- but Elijah wasn't heading there. He made for westward.
  8.
  9. "And is...Yvel, around? He'll be my partner in this."
  10. (Elijah Soleis)
  11. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------
  12.
  13. [18:19] Yvel made his rounds helping a few people along his way, His cousin for one who needed a bit more guidance and as he arrived to the large gate he remembered right where the Castle was that they'd be using for the training session.
  14.
  15. Following Elijah into the ever expansive Castle even it having been his second time here, Yvel was always in Awe at how much activity was taking place within the walls. He'd enjoy himself getting pumped up for the instruction to take place. Although before he knew it he was being tapped on to be Ser Soleis' aid. He wasn't quite sure what that would entail but he quickly moved himself through the crowd a big bright smile on his face. standing right next to the Exarch himself.
  16.
  17. His green eyes watching over the crowd he looked back to Elijah with a bit of a puzzled look but more so excited than anything.
  18.
  19. "I am here, Ser Soleis I'll help with your lesson in anyway that I can!"
  20.
  21. He was a bit nervous after all he had been wanting to learn Holy magic for some time now, He couldn't conceive on what he could do to help just yet but he was putting his best foot forward To be called on by name was enough to get his mind wandering as well.
  22. (Yvel Endore)
  23. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------
  24. ------------------------------------------------------
  25.
  26. [18:27] There were a lot of people present, far more than he was expecting - the fledgling Knight Exarch rarely dealt with crowds this size, and it showed on his expression despite the smile he wore...a slight pinch of the eyes, the occasional wetting of his lip. But he finds comfort in the familiar, trusted face of Vaeltus, and of course the enthusiasm of the prospect Yvel at his side is a reassurance.
  27.
  28. White-gloved hands settle infront of him, folding over one another. Elijah stood tall and broad-shouldered as he gave some time for the crowd to get settled in, now that they were in the courtyard; the 'instructor' for today stood some way from the rosevines, half-way between the sweet flowers and the gathered watchers. After a cough and a deep inhale, he speaks, "Some of you are here today because The Light calls to you, it lure you in. Perhaps there's a person you wish to protect, or you're looking inward for strength. Maybe itis more than that -- maybe, much like Leonaus's sky shines on all of us at night, you want to be the same. A beacon for Esshar, hmm...?"
  29.
  30. "A common desire. A noble one, a good one. And yet it is not so trivial to conjure the holy glow that dwells within each and every heart, even if your ideals might be in the right place," Elijah warned through a smile, before his fingers drift out in front of him; a soft, translucent ray of light takes to his digits, enshrouding each of them and making down along his palm, against his wrist. The visible holy magic is warmth, it is hope, and it is the innate willpower of man.
  31.
  32. "My first question to you all...have you ever faced a demon?" The foul creatures that were pushed back to their native lands of Atrellya, purged and hunted.
  33.
  34.
  35. (Elijah Soleis)
  36. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------
  37. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------
  38.
  39. [18:34] As much as Yvel was expecting to come from this he had not expected to hear talk of Demons, As anyone who'd taken notice to the history of Esshar would know that most demons were wiped out by the very same order centuries ago.
  40.
  41. Yet as Elijah speaks Yvel feels more and more inclined to think and ponder his words. Demons take many shapes and many sizes, Mental physical and even spiritual. It was impossible to know truly what sort of heinous creature lurks within the starlit night but Yvel was still more or less promoted to answer.
  42.
  43. "I've faced the demons within my own person, I've faced my sadness and my grief....I can't say these are the incarnations of evil ser, but I know had I let myself fall into their clutches I would not be a man who follows the Light of the Stars."
  44.
  45. Yvel shook his head but he knew more or less that the Demons he was referring too weren't the ones we all carry within ourselves yet his point persisted.
  46.
  47. "I have not faced the Demons of old, That viciously hunted mankind, But I have faced the ones within myself and if the stories of the ones are true I believe I will be ready for them when the time comes."
  48.
  49. Was there a right or wrong answer? It didn't seem that was the case but Yvel spoke with conviction and resolve nonetheless.
  50. (Yvel Endore)
  51. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------
  52. [18:43] Elijah smiled. It is a soft look that half-lids his eyes, takes the green in them a shade brighter...many of the answers were the same and not necessarily wrong - but he has his own take on this. "That's where every single one of you is incorrect," he claims, then steps forward, taking a few strides with his hand patting against Yvel's shoulder as he looks to the crowd, "Or rather, there's no right or wrong answer. Demons, much like dragons, are creatures of magic. They're our fear made manifest. They're our nightmares. The First Witch, Amalia Elaide, formed these monsters from negative energy, like a water magus pulls moisture from the air."
  53.
  54. "In that sense, we've all faced demons. Our own."
  55.
  56. "The Light is what gives us the power to do so, to not give into bigotry, violence, pride, and anger. It is...the best of humanity," the Knight Exarch claims, now walking by his student- he looks up to the sky with a smile that couldn't be any more content. "And when are we at our best? When we have an ideal to protect! A person! Or a dream. Something we will not forsake no matter the opposition."
  57.
  58. "And so...I require a partner for Yvel," Elijah continues, then turns to look forward and - ah. The pale blonde hair in the distance catches his eye, "Lady Astor, if you'd step forward please..." Elijah requests, gesturing out to the noble lady, then he heads towards the rose garden behind him and...
  59.
  60. -leaps up and towards the wall, landing on the stone ledge. He disappears behind it for a moment, returning with a cage. Some kind of orcish beast dwells within it, a leather-skinned, horned, mishapen thing. "Yvel, you will protect from Lady Astor. And when you do so, I want you to hold onto a holy crystal. It will help to bright out the light within you."
  61.
  62. "But only if you are true and utterly dedicated to putting your life and body on the line to prevent harm."
  63. (Elijah Soleis)
  64. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------
  65. 18:54] This was...well Yvel couldn't keep up with all that was going on until he cleared his mind to listen. He was to be the protector of an Astor woman against a demon none the less? It was a lot to take in and the young Cadet was a bit more nervous than before.
  66.
  67. Yet the feelings washed over him he embraced them and his dark jade eyes filled with passion once more. a smile forged on his face, Whether it be as a shield or as a deterrent he allowed for his teachers words to fill him with the wisdom he needed.
  68.
  69. Yvel's staff was drawn in one hand and he'd extend the other to take the holy crystal his master was giving to him. He'd stare at both objects in his hand for quite sometime before nodding, Feinting as if he was confident enough in all this.
  70.
  71. He chose not to look at the demon instead initially turning his back to it and walking up towards Lady Astor and giving her a reassuring smile.
  72.
  73. "My Lady thank you for participating in thisexorcise with me. I hope that you will but your faith in me. I promise I will protect you with all that I am."
  74.
  75. He turns suddenly Air flows and whips around him as sparks gather and dance amongst his presence. The holy crystal grasped tightly around his right hand he held onto it for dear life.
  76.
  77. A final sigh would expel from his lips as he faced the creature in the cage, And his Master standing next to it.
  78.
  79. "I am prepared to give it all I've got. Lets Go!"
  80.
  81. The cheers of the crowd were reaching him, Even if there were a few decenters Yvel would ignore them negative or positive he only required his own voice and that of Lady Astor to cheer for him.
  82. (Yvel Endore)
  83. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------
  84. [19:00] The leather-skinned, red beast behind the tyrium metal hisses out gutteral, inhuman noises, like nails scratching on a chalkboard. Grunting and growling, eager to escape its prison.
  85.
  86. "It's not uncommon for one of these beasts to make it into our lands, and it's the duty of those of exorcists to push them back. This creature, while on the outside they might seem frightening, compared to the likes of the Abyssal Ones...they're hardly a threat. Until they feed on your fear."
  87.
  88. "Yvel," Elijah pulls out a smooth, circular crystal of light from his pocket, and tosses it over to his student. It is an enchantment stone, surging with holy magic, and when he holds on to it, he can feel the energy deeply. He can see a spark in his mind's eye, something deep inside of him flowing through his magical circuits, channeling throughout his body. Now he needs to learn how to grasp it in the heat of the moment.
  89.
  90. "This demon...it uses the Cursed Magic, Tormentor. A gateway into the occult. When it strikes you, you'll see your past trauma. You'll see your failings. You'll be tempted to escape. Your body might feel numb, slow, as your heart races..."
  91.
  92. "But do not give in. Do not lose. And most of all - protect the noble lady behind you. Now go!"
  93.
  94. With that all said, Elijah unlocks the cage and the creature immediately takes to all fours, racing out...! Lashes of purple energy slip around it as it darts for its target, fast and eager...
  95. (Elijah Soleis)
  96. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------
  97.
  98. [19:03] {Item} You picked up Light Shard..
  99. [19:15] Yvel's mind was racing but it was put to calmness by a prayer."Stars show me your guiding light, let me be a beacon that illuminates the darkness and shields the innocent."
  100.
  101. As the stone was lifted into his hands he could feel the spark of light fill him, It was small. It was just a spec comparably to the rays that he had seen emitted by the stars and by Ser Soleis himself. Yet it was a familiar warmth something he felt growing within himself each second he spent with the stone.
  102.
  103. His eyes moved towards the demon his staff held in his left hands as Elijah moved to open the cage, There was no interval between the demons lunges and the time the cage swung open speed faster than a human could comprehend and even Yvel could barely notice its movements only the tormenting and the sensation of its presence dawned on him.
  104.
  105. ' You will fail.'
  106.
  107. ' You will die'
  108.
  109. ' Your family hates you'
  110.
  111. ' You're an insignificant commoner what will you achieve?'
  112.
  113. ' You will never amount to anything beyond that of a fly on the wall or an ant on the ground. Die.'
  114.
  115. The purplish aura enveloped him and for a time these thoughts raced through his mind bludgeoning him with the chaos of this creatures experience, His flesh burning singing It wasn't long before the Demon had fully blanked Yvel in what seemed to be bubbling darkness.
  116.
  117. Yet the Holy magics pierced the veil of darkness from within. He did not falter. The voice of the stars reached him Yvel's prayers persisted, the feeling he had rose up within him, The Light shard poured its wisdom into the boys mind and with it he broke free from the darkness that scattered his mind.
  118.
  119. "I am Yvel Endore, And though I may stumble...though I may fail....there will always be the Light of my family...the Light of my people...and the Light of the stars to guide me where I need to be."
  120.
  121. Hisstaff draw forth and his magics flared Yvel was prepared to do whatever it took to defend himself against the demons assaults.
  122. (Yvel Endore)
  123. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------
  124. [19:22] {NARRATION} The venomous, red-skinned creature leapt across the stone of the castle, but it is quickly intercepted by Yvel. And holding the Holy Crystal, the magi would ward off the beast, acting as a bulkwark between it and all others. Soon enough - he is victorious, however...
  125.
  126. The mangled, defeated demon shifts on the floor, its thick purple bloody ichor drowning down, until... it rises back up again, a flash of intense black magic rippling out from it, and its wounds heal. It begins to evolve, changing shape, larger. More fearsome.
  127.
  128. "...Ah, I didn't plan for that. Everyone - use your magic to take it down! And be wary of its Tormemtor Curse!"
  129. [19:25] Holy magic event!
  130. (Elijah Soleis mentoring Yvel Endore)
  131.
  132. [19:25] {MENTOR} You learned Light Orb from Elijah Soleis
  133.
  134.
  135. [19:31] The demon was quickly felled - While she believed in him, Yvel made faster work of the beast than she'd expected him to. With quick footwork and swift manipulation of the wind, the captured demon is brought to a heap atop the castle walls in record time.
  136.
  137. One foot moves forward to congratulate the Knight on his victory, but then --- She freezes in her tracks as the previous sickening, abyssal energy becomes thicker, cloying, painful. It's as if a clammy, clawed hand had reached out and clutched around her heart, squeezing with the intent of bursting it.
  138.
  139. It's hard to breathe -- It's hard to act. She hadn't had to have a fight or flight response, before. She was a delicate, pristine dove locked away in a gilded cage, after all --
  140.
  141. And, so --
  142.
  143. -------- She barely notices when her reaction is 'fight'.
  144.
  145. The rosegold starlight innate in her blood flickers to light, a soft golden glow rippling to life around her body, eyes locked on the large demon that's taken place of the smaller.
  146.
  147. -- She, in the moment, has completely and utterly forgotten that she has absolutely no combat skill whatsoever.
  148. (Estellise ven Astor)
  149. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------
  150. [19:31] Yvel persisted the battle was not an easy one and it seemed as many blows as the Demon was taking it absorbed them and only gotten stronger, Yvel was still at novice at best yet he channeled the light into magic he could harness and utilize something he could visualize.
  151.
  152. Yvel placed the Light shard near his staff combining the two powers allowing for them to synchronize with his magic, He would use this to end the demons assaults against himself, A bulwark of magic flushed through him an attack spell he could use against spheres of holy magic gathered around his staff.
  153.
  154. and with a final thrust forwards the barrage of light would make there way to connect to the demon despite how large it had grown with all the Knights gathered here Yvel knew they would prevail.
  155.
  156. "The Light of the stars will guide us, and now we will hold strong to the beacon of light that shines within us all, and the stars will lead us!"
  157.
  158.
  159. Even while doing this all Yvel had made sure to keep Lady Astor within his sights when the demon grew to nightmarish heights he quickly leapt near her to be sure his defense of her was not neglected.
  160.
  161. "My Lady, I will continue my defense of you regardless of this outcome, Let us continue."
  162. (Yvel Endore)
  163. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------
  164. [19:32] {NARRATION} (Go!)
  165. [19:34] {NARRATION} The combined assault of everyone present was...well, overwhelming! But as they struck the demon, they'd all feel the whip of occult magic - it attacks the mind, bringing out their innate fear and reminding them of their weaknesses. Flashes of terror. But they can resist, and they can look inside themselves for the light - the iwll to carry on!
  166. 19:37] During the brawl, where the newly evolved demon was repeatedly bashed by strikes of steel, fist, and magic, the Knight Exarch remained beside Lady Astor and Yvel. He did not personally engage - but watched vigilantly.
  167.
  168. Elijah waited for the dust to settle before addressing everyone once more.
  169. (Elijah Soleis)
  170. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------
  171. [19:41] Exhalated rays of light carried by the hopes and dreams of Yvel flushed through the demons body the orbs of light continued to batter him down, He was not the only one however, The creature was assaulted by all sides by the magi and cadets and observers within the square. It was a true sight to see all the peoples coming to defend against what would've otherwise been a grand threat.
  172.
  173. Yvel stood by Lady Astor's side the entirety of the fight but used wind and his newly discovered Holy magic to launch assaults against the creature's body, Blow for blow until finally the towering demon was torn down.
  174.
  175. "My Lady Are you alright? Thank you for aiding me in this exam I would have never been able to resist the temptations of the darkness had it not been for my duty to protect you" He'd offer her a smile although he was unsure of how she would feel about him in this in stance.
  176.
  177.
  178. He'd take his sight towards Elijah and offer him another smile. "I understand now. It is not a power to be used for selfishness...it is a power to be used with humility and understanding. Humanity must be protected and we must fight against the ravages of occultism and nightmares and protect the people. and that is what I will do with this new found light."
  179. (Yvel Endore)
  180. [19:50] Perhaps it was unplanned - perhaps it wasn't. Just maybe he had requested a demon on the verge of evolving into its next stage, but regardless of the intentions, those here today did well to quickly put it down. And with that, Elijah beamed a bright smile in Yvel's direction, "That spark is in you now - you can bring it out, shape it into devasting spheres of holy magic. It's an impressive feat for a cadet, too impressive. So consider yourself a fully fledged Knight going forward, Yvel, which means the training will only get harder from here on out."
  181.
  182. Then he looks out to the crowd, taking everyone in.
  183.
  184. Some were shook by fear. Some were excited. Some were proud.
  185.
  186. It was expected --
  187.
  188. -- Occult challenges a person's very soul after all, doesn't it? It makes you see the things you don't want to see.
  189.
  190. "That is all, then, for today. Thank you for attending this introduction. I hope you gained some experience from this, even if The Light isn't the path you're looking to walk. If you want further instructions -- if you want to be a bearer of this magic, please do seek me out soon, hm?"
  191.
  192. "Any questions?"
  193.
  194. (Thread w/ a form to state your interest in learning holy magic! https://chronicles-of-esshar.com/forum/showthread.php?tid=251&pid=806#pid806)
  195.
  196. (Elijah Soleis)
  197.
  198.
  199. [20:00] Yvel smiles towards the woman extending a hand seeing how shaken she was, He noticed Aaron and Adrielle congratulating him but his attention was fixed on the Lady Estelle she seemed shaken up and still in a bit of a panic the occultism that pushed its way into the minds of everyone there was seriously no joke and even as he was now Yvel felt shook by it to his core. Even so his positivity and his smile continued to radiate.
  200.
  201. "Thank you my Lady those words mean much to me I will continue to follow this path, Would you like me to walk you home? I can't imagine why that occurred but anyone would be frightened by such a display."
  202.
  203. He said softly as he aimed to help her although he waited her permission before advancing too closely. It didn't even hit him until he listened to Elijah's words and the congratulations of his friends and family that he knew he had become a Knight, Adorning the armor and placing his trade marked white coat onto himself he finally felt it wholeheartedly.
  204.
  205.
  206. "Thank you everyone...I've tried for so long to achieve this and I couldn't have done it without the support from you all, Adrielle, Vaeltus, My family, and even you Lady Astor you all have my deepest gratitude's…" He was beginning to get a little shy now, He didn't want to cry but he was happier than he could've imagined!
  207.
  208. (Yvel Endore)
