  9. 1: introduction-
  10. There are many great advancements in today’s society. One of the biggest problems of such a large influx of new information is that we don’t seem to test things thoroughly and may not think about what effects may be included while our technology advances. Because of advancements in agriculture, preservatives, additives and GMO’s have become great in product yield and maintaining freshness but have also been known to have effects on our health. The food we ingest should in fact be marked if it contains such things, yet it should be noted that such things as additives and GMO’s are developments that have done much more good than bad.
  11. Stance:
  12. Thesis:
  13. 2: paragraph 1- general
  14. To discuss the negative effects on health first, we see that tests say that preservatives are sometimes carcinogenic. Genetically Modified Organisms (GMOs) are not considered the same species as before the modification. Also, additives for artificial flavoring and shelf life increasing have also been known to be closely related to cell mutation (cancer). The positive effects of preservatives are that foods can now be stored much longer with much less energy needed to keep them from going bad. This allows donations of all of those nice packaged things to the starving in _____ don’t go bad on the way and make them sick. Additives also increase the period of time that something is edible, and together, both additives and preservatives have save millions in energy from containment and lower pollution from less need for harmful fertilizers or use of land to be used for agriculture (because of food lasting longer, there is less need to grow new food). These are just general positives and negatives.
