- The Goblin Rebellions:
- Goblins are a high intelligent race and an important part of our society, since they run Gringotts Wizarding Bank. They use there own kind of strong magic and are known for their skills in metalsmith. Due to the fact, that they are on a similar interlectual level as we wizards and witches are, they of course never would like to be owned or suppressed. The examination of this problem was the reason for disputes and rebellions, known as the Goblin Rebellions.
- The Goblin Rebellions took place in the seventeenth and eighteenth centuries mainly. They were fought in a serie of few rebellions. The reasons, as it was said in the last lesson, were discrimination and prejudice to their race as well as the claim of wizards and witches to be the race in charge of all other magical beings and beasts.
- In 1612 one rebellion took place in Hogsmeade Village, so very close to Hogwarts. Indicator might have been the lack of goblin representation in the Wizengamot. One if the inns, probably Three Broomsticks Inn or the Hog's Head Inn, were used as headquarter for the rebelling goblins. This rebellion was very violent and bloody. Both sides had to complain about big losses. In this time Ulick Gamp was Minister of Magic. He was the first Minister of Magic of the British history.
- Another great rebellion brought the Ministry of Magic into big trouble. It occured in 1752. The fifth Minister of Magic, Albert Boot, mismanaged the situation, which led to his resigning. The following Minister, Basil Flack, kept that position for only two months. He was completely overwhelmed with the rebellion, after the goblins started to coorperate with werewolves. The werewolves, unpopular and excluded by the wizards, joined the rebellion.
- Later in that century the next rebellion rised. One of the leaders of that riot you can find on a chocolate frog card: Urg the Unclean. He once was hold underwater by young wizards, which marked him and made him become one of the activists, such as Bodrod the Bearded, in another bloody rebellion. For his role in the rebellion, Urg the Unclean was featured on a chocolate frog card.
- The goblin Rebellions are an important part of our history. They showed the wizards, that their way how they were against the goblins and other creatures, is a autocratic behavior (one party rules about all). While the centaurs never wanted to be included to the wizarding community, goblins want to participate, but want to have a bigger role. In consequence to the goblin rebellions, the goblins got more rights. They now control Gringotts Wizarding Bank. Additionally they are represented by the Goblin Liaison Office in the Ministry of Magic. The interaction between wizards and goblins are still marked by mistrust. Cases like the accidently death of Nagnock, an employee of Gingotts Wizarding Bank, who was killed by an untrained Security troll, sent by the Ministry of Magic, makes it hard for wizards, who work in Gringotts as well. These employees have to be capable to understand the goblin behavior and traditions as well as they need to be good diplomats.
- But still there are some goblin organizations, claiming to be discriminated. Wizards would not respect their kind of ownership. They also complain about, that wizards must not let non-wizards carry and use wands.
