Rainbow Dash, Camping [spooky but not really]

>It had been a while since Rainbow Dash had promised to go camping with Scootaloo, and now the weather was good enough, she was excited to finally go
>The plan was to go by raft to the camp site, where they would spend the night, and return to Ponyville by raft.
>It would be hard work to get there, involving several hard rowing sessions, but Rainbow Dash knew it would be worth it
>She grabbed the last case of water and flew over to the raft. “Ready Scootaloo?”
>”Of course Rainbow Dash!”
>Rainbow Dash jumped into the raft, followed by an eager Scootaloo
>They each grabbed a set of oars, and started out
>As they rowed, they sang, talked about the upcoming Equestria games, drank water, ate daffodil sandwiches and laughed a lot
>Even though they set off in the early morning, it was almost dark by the time they made it to camp
>”Finally, now wait here I’ll grab some firewood kiddo” she told Scootaloo before whizzing off into the air
>A few minutes later she returned, her arms full of dry wood, and they soon had a merry camp fire going
>After they ate they were sat there, the fire crackling in the background
>”Hey Rainbow Dash, do you think I’ll ever get my wings?”
>”Of course kiddo, one day you will be a great flier!”
>”Everybody keeps saying that, but I’m really scared they won’t develop and I’ll let everypony down”
>Rainbow Dash sighed and moved closer to Scootaloo
>”Look Scootaloo, I know you feel like without your wings you can’t achieve, but that simply isn’t the truth. You can achieve whatever you want to, and nobody can stop you. You are an amazing pony and I’ll always be there for you”
>Rainbow Dash pulled Scootaloo into a tight hug, before releasing her. “I think we should get some sleep”.
>With that, she flew over to her sleeping bag, slipped in and quickly fell asleep
>Scootaloo smiled, pulled her sleeping bag nearer to Rainbow Dashes and soon fell asleep, feeling incredibly safe just knowing the blue mare was watching out for her
>Rainbow Dash woke up, and saw Scootaloo sleeping nearby still.
>She trotted over, and lightly tapped a hoof on Scootaloos side. “Come on kiddo, time to get going”
>They shared a fresh fruit salad and some honey milk for breakfast, before returning to the raft.
>”The water is going down, so returning home should be much faster” Rainbow Dash stated with certainty
>They both hopped in, and pushed out into the current
>”Hey Scootaloo, can you quickly check the map, I can’t remember if we came from the left or right fork of the river”
>Scootaloo rummaged around in the packs, but couldn’t find the map anywhere
>”It’s not here Rainbow Dash!”
>”I was looking at it last night, we must have left it back in camp” Rainbow Dash said, a frown crossing her face
>”I think it was the right fork”
>They used the paddles to push the raft towards the right fork, and were soon past the point of no return
>”Hm, there was supposed to be a tr-
>A surge in the water smashed into the side of the raft, sending it dangerously close the rocky crops on the left side of them
>”This is definitely the wrong path, we need to move ri-
>A second surge hit into the raft, pushing it straight into the rocks
>Rainbow Dash inhaled sharply as her body battered into the rocks, trying to find Scootaloo
>”Over here Rainbow Dash” She heard a voice coming from behind her
>She span around as best she could with debris all around her
>Scootaloo was floundering in the water, her head barely breaking the surface
>”Can’t you fly us out of here” Scootaloo screamed
>”Wings…too..waterlogg-ghr” She hit into the rock again, knocking the breath out of her
>Rainbow Dash swam over, using her hooves and wings to rapidly push her downstream towards Scootaloo
>With a gasp, she dived underwater and pushed Scootaloo up, propping her on her back
>Her head broke the water, and she exhaled, glad to be able to breath again
>”Thanks Rainbow Dash, now what do we do?”
>”Only thing we can do, hold on and hope there is a river bank soon”. Rainbow Dash knew the chances of this ending without pain were low, but didn’t want to scare the filly too much.
>As she was speaking, the water welled, causing river water to flood into her mouth
>She started pushing with her hooves, moving her head further out of the water and coughing it up at the same time
>”Are you ok Rainbow Dash?” Scootaloo asked, her eyes wide with fright
>Rainbow Dash nodded, not wanting to inhale more water
>They stayed this way for several minutes, the roar of the water slowly building in volume
>”What…Whats that?”
>”A waterfall” Rainbow Dash said, not wanting to say how much worse this made their predicament
>Sure enough, it soon became apparent that the water was dropping just downstream of where they were
>”Hang on tight kid”
>Rainbow Dash paddled over to the left with her hooves, and started trying to get purchase on the slippery rocks
>After a few moments, she managed to hang on a rough brown rock, and lay there, catching her breath
>”We should be safe here for now” Rainbow Dash yelled, joy flooding her voice
>Just as Rainbow Dash started dragging herself upwards, the water swelled, sending a part of the raft straight into the two of them
>”No!”
>They were swept back into the water, the raft pushing the two of them underwater
>Rainbow Dash pulled herself upwards towards the surface, putting Scootaloo back above
>This trapped her head under the water however, preventing her from getting air
>Rather than splash around and scare Scootaloo, she decided to stay still and keep her calm
>Her vision was beginning to fade, when all of a sudden they went over the edge of the waterfall
>As they fell, Rainbow Dash turned to Scootaloo and yelled “Its going to be ok”
>They hit the water, and everything went black
>Scootaloo opened her eyes, and found herself on a grassy shore, her rear hooves floating in the edge of the water
>”Rainbow Dash?” She called
>She staggered to her hooves, her head pounding in pain “Rainbow Dash!”
>She quickly looked around her, the blue mare nowhere in sight
>As she looked around more closely, she spotted a set of hoofprints pressed into blood, and gulped
>She followed them, fearing the worst
>They didn’t go far, and just over a hillock she found Rainbow Dash, lay on her back, looking into the sky
>A wooden post, covered in blood, lay next to her
>”H-Hey kiddo”. “I did-didn’t want you to see me like this”.
>She grinned apologetically at Scootaloo, before coughing up blood onto one of her hooves
>The grin didn’t last long, and her face quickly turned serious again
>”I had a quick look around, and we are near a trail that hikers use”
>”You should be able to find your way back to Ponyville in less than 20 minutes”
>”Your coming with me Rainbow Dash!” Scootaloo cried
>”Do I look like I’m going to make it, kiddo?”
>”I’ll bring help!” Scootaloo felt tears running down her face
>”Look Scootaloo, I’m not sure how long I have, and I’ve got something to tell you”
>”I meant what I said last night. I’ve always been proud of you, and you are going to grow up into a great flier. I believe in you”.
>Rainbow Dash blinked, tears filling up at the corners of her eyes
>”Now go”
>”I’m going to come back Rainbow Dash”
>Scootaloo galloped as fast as she could, and soon found herself on the outskirts of the everfree forest, near Fluttershys
>She ran up to the door and knocked on, hoping to Celestia Fluttershy was in
>”Somepony is impatient” Scootaloo heard Fluttershy murmur
>The door cracked open
>”Whats on Equestria happened Scootaloo?”
>15 minutes later, Scootaloo, Fluttershy and Twilight galloped onto the hill
>Rainbow Dash was lay there, a smile on her face and her eyes closed
