  1. Question (will not be included)
  2. Please tell me about a time where you had to go above and beyond your required responsibilities to help or support another team or team member to create a solution or to meet a business critical deadline. What did you do and what was the result?

  4.
  5. A time I went above and beyond the required responsibilities of my role was when I was a Data Operations analyst at Company A and proactively trained/onboarded a group of new Data Operations analysts.
  6.
  7. The challenge:
  8. The lack of structured training/onboarding/knowledge transfer for new hires had previously lead to a painful and frustrating experience where mistakes were made when addressing client account issues, delivered products often contained numerous errors, internal scalability (number of accounts that could be taken on) was hampered and client relationships and expectations were mismanaged.
  9.
  10. The action:
  11. I was not a supervisor nor initially tasked with training the new hires but I convinced my lead to allow me to take on the challenge. I developed a training program based on my prior experiences (where i ran into issues and had struggles and took steps to remedy those pain-points). I implemented this training program early on during the onboarding process and adjusted my workflows to make this plan successful. This allowed me to be available at anytime for hands on coaching and any questions and also allowing me to maintain the high level of work I provided for my clients.
  12.
  13. The result:
  14. This entire process for training the new hires took about 6 months. At the end of the process each new hire was about 80% proficient at the critical functions of the Data Operations role. Yes, there were still some areas where they needed additional training and coaching, but this was the fastest ramp up time to date (for context, without this training strategy, it took me twice the time to get to this level of proficiency). As a result, Data Operations analysts were well equipped for success, client account issues were resolved in a proper manner, delivered products were of a higher standard and client relationships were strengthened.
