  1. I actually don't use "social justice warrior" as an insult, but as a precise description of a certain type of activist. Sort of the way "troll" or "shitposter" describes a certain type of Internet commenter (but read on). I use "social justice warrior" to distinguish between generally a social activist and a very special type of a social activist: http://www.urbandictionary.com/define.php?term=social+justice+warrior (i.e. I have a few friends who are on the opposite side of the political spectrum but I would never call them "social justice warriors").

  3. In other words, I don't use "social justice warrior" to insult people whom I disagree with. To me, it's a neutral term that pinpoints a certain type of people, not all social activists that I might disagree with.

  5. Actually, I am quite surprised "social justice warriors" (or even some neutral people) react this way to the term. I mentioned "troll" and "shitposter" earlier, and these are clearly negative: troll = ugly monsters, shitposter = I don't really need to explain that :) But "social justice warrior"? Where's the harm in that?!

  7. Having said that, quite a few people seem to be literally triggered by the use of this term. I can call the opponents the cultural Maoists or chronically offended, nearly no one cares. I use "social justice warrior" once and I get messages. I don't know why that is, must be some cultural thing I don't quite get from my Warsaw perspective.

  9. I do think I can get the message across without using this particular term. I never used it that much anyway.
