- Tannhauser checked the crossbow. The lath was steel, the bolt holder shaped from a strip of antler. The bolt head looked like a giant horseshoe nail. It was small as crossbows went, as benefitted an assassins needs, but at forty yards it would punch a hole through steel plate.
