- Homework: finish writing your conversation. (Exchange email addresses with your partners if you need to communicate during the weekend.)
- ---
- Get together and read your conversation for the class. When you listen, try to identify the new idioms they use in their conversation.
- “an arm and a leg” = very high cost
- “Kill two birds with one stone.” = Solve two problems with one solution.
- “A bird in the hand is worth two in the bush.”
- “clam up” = stop talking because you’re too nervous (not a command)
- “cut a rug” = dance well (“He really knows how to cut a rug.”)
- “The ball is in your court.” = Now is your chance/responsibility to make the next decision.
- “It was a shambles.” = A disorganized disaster.

- *I’m going to shopping.
- -> I’m going shopping. / I’m going to go shopping.
- [be] going to + base verb (for future plans/predictions)
- [be] going to + place (for present continuous movement to somewhere)
- We have many activities (for fun or exercise) that are formed with “go” + verb(ing):
- go shopping
- go dancing
- go bowling
- go running
- go swimming
- …
- The verb “go” changes form for different tenses, but the verb(ing) doesn’t change, and you never write “to” between them:
- go shopping / goes shopping / is going shopping / went shopping / has gone shopping / etc.
- ---
- “How come?” is another (somewhat informal) way of asking “Why?”
- The grammar is a bit different for a full sentence:
- Why did you arrive late? Why does he have your book? Why will he do that?
- How come you arrived late? How come he has your book? How come he will do that?
