Cattlepunk 1881 Class Descriptions

Indian Brave

Whether a Cheyenne Dog Soldier, Comanche Lancer, or Apache Warrior the opinions on these brave warriors is as wide as the West itself. However, most would agree they would rather fight with 'em than against 'em.



Carpetbagger

Businessmen, politicians, bankers and anyone else who wants a quick profit. Carpetbagger is a catchall term for those who sought to exploit the weak post-war economy for personal gain. This career is not limited just to those who seek exploitation however, and should be used by anyone who wants to play more of a sly entrepreneur.



Cowboy

Drovers, vaqueros, and gauchos are not what might come to mind with the term cowboy. Cowboys are cattlemen first, gunfighters second (for gunfighter see Drifter). Of course, this isn't to say they're pushovers if someone wants to trespass on their range.



Surgeon

Surgeons, dentists, barbers, and sometimes all three at once, these medical professionals might make the difference in you surviving your last gunfight or having that thing you caught from Trudy down in Tombstone last week putting you six feet under.



Drifter

These folks could be shootists or even a desperados. You don’t know much about them and they don’t know much about you, but the drifter sure knows they could make your wife a widow and the undertaker a happy man if they wanted to.



Frontiersman

From Davy Crockett, to Daniel Boone, to the humble homesteader, these brave men and women find themselves waging war with the most formidable of foes; Nature herself.



Gambler

The gambler isn’t made like a normal man, he's the kind of person that’s willing to risk it all with the hopes of big wins. A gambler lives to throw down their cards and see what Lady Luck has dealt them, albeit maybe with a little extra luck up the sleeve sometimes.



Lawman

While the natural order of the West might be that of lawlessness and anarchy, the lawman spits in the face of nature and seeks to bring civility and order wherever he treads. With both words and lead he insures scoundrels are brought to justice, dead or alive



Performer

Life in the West might is rough and someone who can soften it a bit can be worth their weight in gold. Musicians, storytellers, and even soiled doves all seek to make life go a little smoother for their patrons, all for the right price of course.



Occultist

Regardless of whether its hoodoo or voodoo, if you do you will generally be frowned upon by polite society. For this reason, many practitioners of such arts find themselves living two lives; townsman in the sun soaked day and shaman and spiritualist in the moonlit night.



Preacher

The lawmen say that lead and powder keeps order in the West, the politicians say pen and paper. But the common man says morality and that is the domain of the preacher. Whether a priest, rabbi or even a daoshi it is their job to maintain faith and morality in places where even God doesn't gaze.



Reporter

Ever since the days of Gutenberg, the reporter has been a facet of society. After all, what’s the point of dashing heroics and dastardly villains standing off at high noon if no one’s around to hear about it?



Soldier

Following the war, many men young and old alike found themselves unemployed and potentially homeless. Seeing no other option, many chose to reenlist and head out West seeking either their next great chance at glory or just a hill to die on.



Thief

Some are charming, but many more are not. Regardless, being a pickpocket or a burglar in the West is a quick path towards a shallow grave. And yet, in these times of hardship, many see it as their only option to keep food on the table and whisky in their belly.



Tradesman

Your cobblers, wood workers, masons, and smiths. Your engineers, coachmen, boilermen, and craftsmen of all kinds. Tradesman have always been the backbone of this nation, and just because it finds itself split in two, that fact will never change.



Workman

Although often mistreated and persecuted, the working classes have made the West what it is with their own blood, sweat, and tears, working unrelentingly towards the dream of a better tomorrow.
