  2. [08:35:27] <greg> morning
  3. [08:36:17] <Billf> found out more about the MDM - was curious what it takes to get a VM to test windows shares (I know I ask Bill, but I was wondering about the process itself)
  4. [08:36:57] <greg> you create a vm. install an os, then share some files
  5. [08:37:22] <Billf> lol ... does we have da lyescents?
  6. [08:37:41] <greg> we have msdn
  7. [08:37:47] <greg> ask bill to have me make a vm
  8. [08:37:49] <greg> and ill make one
  9. [08:37:50] <greg> in 2016
  10. [08:37:54] <greg> or what ever os
  11. [08:38:01] <greg> you could also run it locally
  12. [08:38:39] <Billf> I'd need out on 443
  13. [08:38:46] <greg> not blocked
  14. [08:38:48] <greg> for you
  15. [08:38:52] <greg> or a vm
  16. [08:39:00] <Billf> and I'd like to use a VM so if its a go we can just use it
  17. [08:39:07] <greg> sure
  18. [08:40:15] <Billf> basically share on win vm -> SSL VPN on 443 to MaaS360 server -> iOS device on SSL
  19. [08:40:44] <Billf> *you usually blow giant holes in my ideas - I need that now more than ever*
  20. [08:40:58] <greg> lol
  21. [08:41:05] <greg> well you make it sound like im mean
  22. [08:41:06] <greg> lol
  23. [08:41:21] <greg> the 1 problem I can see is ACL mapping
  24. [08:41:28] <Billf> Not my intent, but I'm pretty sure you'd pout publicly while holding it as a point of pride inside :P
  25. [08:41:30] <greg> im sure there is more
  26. [08:41:32] <greg> but im so tired
  27. [08:41:34] <greg> lol

  29. [08:43:39] <greg> concern*
  30. [08:44:46] <Billf> Its literally a software SSL vpn to access win shares - not much to it
  31. [08:45:09] <greg> then lets do it up!
  32. [08:45:38] <Billf> lemme give bill another hour to do bill stuff while I read a bit more on policies

  49. [08:59:03] <greg> I could use some brain damage right about now
  50. [08:59:09] <greg> now that you mention it
  51. [08:59:49] <Billf> got my best brain damage with a little physical activity
  52. [09:00:01] <Billf> go play near the cutting machine - it'll sort itself out shortly me thinks

  81. [10:46:12] <Billf> oh, she knows that
  82. [10:46:28] <Billf> shes my mom and in charge of HR where I work - she knows everything
  83. [10:47:24] <Billf> So with that kind of return and my present circumstances being what they are ....
  84. [10:47:33] <Billf> guess who is buying VR for his B-Day in February?
  85. [10:48:01] <greg> lol
  86. [10:48:08] <greg> new vive is coming out
  87. [10:48:15] <Billf> contemplating an eGPU and 1080
  88. [10:48:30] <Billf> but I'm concerned about loss on eGPU, is it because its basically using 4x pcie lanes?
  89. [10:50:02] <greg> yeah i would be worried too
  90. [10:50:25] <Billf> I'm thinking I can use my Quadro for physics and recover some of that though
  91. [10:50:53] <Billf> problem is, I want VR on my laptop. Want to give my old desktop to daughter for kicking ass in school
  92. [10:51:21] <Billf> but a quadro card (mine is close to 965m gpu) isn't gonna run any VR
  93. [10:52:30] <Billf> tl;dr - A) buy eGPU solution with 1080. B) Consider new machine on cheap with a 1070 in it C) build ryzen threadripper lol build with lol 1080ti lol
  94. [10:52:35] <Billf> A - B - C ??
  95. [10:52:46] <Billf> B) => B )
  96. [10:53:07] <greg> id probably build. laptop stuff like this never makes sense.
  97. [10:53:38] <Billf> D) blow entire tax return on $5,000 iMac Pro with 1080ti
  98. [10:53:45] <Billf> rofl
  99. [10:53:56] <Billf> :'-(
  100. [10:54:01] <greg> that sounds reasonable to me
  101. [10:54:04] <greg> macs just work
  102. [10:54:07] <greg> and are awesome
  103. [10:54:19] <Billf> sorry - you came to OBR. Gabriel drive is ==============> that way
  104. [10:54:46] <greg> im not sure what way anything is anymore
  105. [10:54:58] <Billf> its all relative anyway
  106. [10:55:09] <Billf> I think up is a lie to be honest
  107. [10:55:11] <greg> well not if the earth is flat
  108. [10:55:14] <Billf> or we'd fall off the earth
  109. [10:55:19] <Billf> IT HAS TO BE FLAT
  110. [10:55:46] <Billf> or we'd fall off. Jesus Christ! Why can't you people understand the laws (lies?) of physics that you tout so proudly?!
  111. [10:56:05] <greg> ehttps://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EiBJBVBez_w
  112. [10:56:12] <greg> https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EiBJBVBez_w
  113. [10:56:14] <Billf> risky click of the day ....
  114. [10:56:27] <greg> nah man 200 proofs the earth is flat.
  115. [10:57:41] <Billf> oh. my. god.
  116. [10:57:47] <Billf> these people are for real?
  117. [10:57:51] <Billf> I thought this was just a meme
  118. [10:57:54] <greg> yep. there is an ice wall
  119. [10:58:01] <greg> that the government wont let us pass
  120. [10:58:06] <greg> to prove that we will fall off
  121. [10:58:09] <greg> -eric dubay
  122. [10:58:12] <Billf> the 4th wall ...
  123. [11:12:34] *** Billf is now Away: Auto Status (idle) [5]
  124. [11:12:40] *** Billf is now Online [5]
  125. [11:18:18] <Billf> Physical or Virtual Machine with Windows Server 2008 RC2, 2008, or 2003 as an installation target for the Cloud Extender software (see the Release Notes). You can also use Windows XP or Windows 7, but they are not recommended for use in a Production environment.
  126. [11:18:25] <Billf> 2016 = 2008 RC2 ??
  127. [11:18:27] <greg> gross
  128. [11:18:37] <Billf> si
  129. [11:18:44] <Billf> fuck 'em, gonna try anyway
  130. [11:19:09] <greg> 2008 is end of lifed
  131. [11:19:11] <greg> that is concerning
  132. [11:19:25] <Billf> obviously it could be an old document he emailed me
  133. [11:20:14] <Billf> ya, online says 2016
  134. [11:20:15] <Billf> lol
  135. [11:25:16] <Billf> why aren't tm's in AD?
  136. [11:25:50] <greg> what do you mean
  137. [11:26:15] <Billf> I mean that having tm's in ad would make this config much easier
  138. [11:26:52] <greg> as users
  139. [11:26:54] <greg> or something?
  140. [11:27:22] <Billf> are there policies now that restrict product managers to certain shares?
  141. [11:27:30] <greg> yea
  142. [11:27:37] <greg> there are share restrictions
  143. [11:29:22] <Billf> and are TM's even users in AD?
  144. [11:29:45] <greg> gimme a name
  145. [11:29:53] <Billf> John Starring
  146. [11:30:35] <greg> i dont see him in there
  147. [11:30:49] <Billf> Marc Grodberg
  148. [11:30:52] <Billf> Roger Berube
  149. [11:30:58] <Billf> Joe Varnauskas
  150. [11:31:07] <Billf> willing to bet all nadda
  151. [11:32:31] <greg> nuffin
  152. [11:32:40] <Billf> tm not in ad
  153. [11:32:56] <Billf> if were, make rule. rule is good
  154. [11:33:03] <greg> now im curious. why do they need ad auth
  155. [11:33:29] <Billf> It integrates everything with AD, so that any user policy is the same on mobile or desk
  156. [11:33:51] <greg> how is auth done remotely
  157. [11:34:15] <Billf> not entirely sure
  158. [11:34:45] <Billf> I can create a user and assign policies like we do now with alresco
  159. [11:35:34] <Billf> not entirely sure what you're looking for in an answer there might be a better way to respond
  160. [11:38:25] <Billf> I'm just thinking that somebody who works inside and needs access to alex on their mobile device, lets say Bruce Burns, would be easily configured using AD for auth; but I'm not sure if I can use both AD and MaaS to auth simultaneously?
  161. [11:38:40] <Billf> probably a dumb question if you've done stuff like this before, but its pretty close to my first time
  162. [11:39:29] <greg> yeah youre missing a piece there. Auth systems are manually coded. so it depends on what the story is
  163. [11:39:36] <greg> you can have ad auth on the internet as well
  164. [11:43:39] <Billf> it looks, to me, like it simply imports the settings from AD to the portal (when looking at portal) and that was my understanding before looking at the doc he sent me
  165. [11:44:32] <Billf> The cloud extender documentation makes it sound like you would use the existing AD controller to auth ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
  166. [11:45:59] <Billf> since TM's aren't in there, it seems that may be wasted time/energy and I could import the AD profiles to the portal and just use MaaS's portal to auth users
  167. [11:46:41] <greg> id like to prevent ad entries from being accessible on the internet
  168. [11:46:44] <greg> in any form.
  169. [11:47:42] <greg> but its not mine, its bob's. he may be up for it
  170. [11:48:07] <Billf> there's probably a reason I'm talking to you and Bill about this and not Bob, but I'm an idiot and can't seem to put my finger on it
  171. [11:52:05] <greg> in the end its his. I donno. We could do a RODC too.
  172. [11:52:11] <greg> i dont make the rules
  173. [11:52:15] <greg> i just watch the fires
  174. [11:52:53] <Billf> could I import the AD groups/rules safely?
  175. [11:53:05] <Billf> in your opinion, I understand thats a Bob/Bill question
  176. [11:53:59] <greg> you could export some stuff. safely
  177. [11:54:05] <greg> but that wont be automatic
  178. [11:54:10] <greg> depends on what maas does
