Pidgey% Pokemon Red Speedrun Guide

I have changed the Route since my pb with finding a better Pidgey manip, made adding in the move MIMIC to help with Gio Gym VR Rival and the E4 Bruno Lance Champ, hopefully get sub 2:20 with new pidgey and changes + just playing better.

This is a guide/route I am working on for Pidgey% in Pokemon Red.

This route follows nidoking trainer wise, but difference in gym order, and a few pit stops to get TMs Double Edge and Swift.


Get Squritle, normal Rival 1, kill 1 encounter R1

Mart - Buy 3 pokeballs and 5 antidotes

Get Hidden Tree potion

-lvl 3 15hp, 14/15/14/12 dvs, 8/8/9/7 if you check stats at lvl 3
-56/60 IGT, lvl 5 pidgey early, lvl 3 weedle early, yoloball fail (good stats pidgey), bad stats pidgey (lvl 3 15hp 8/7/8/9 has 0 def DV)

skip antidote in forest, get hidden pot before Weedle Guy

Normal weedle guy

Swap pidgey to front and fight brock like normal

After Brock set options to set and goto mart

Mart - Sell Bide, Buy 15 pots

BC1: Caterpie GustX4, Weedle Gust X3, Caterpie GustX3

Heal to full before Shorts Guy

Shorts Guy: Rattata  GustX3, Ekans GustX3
    -QA 8-10 (crit 13-16), slower than rat, faster than snake

BC2: Weedle GustX2/3, Kakuna GustX3/4 (QA if 2 speed falls), Caterpie QAX2/3, Metapod GustX3

BC3: Caterpie GustX2 +(QA), Metapod QAX4

Do full moon manip, select yoloball works? (no idea on R3 full moon)

Moon Rocket: Rattata QAX3, Zubat QAX3

Use pot before Nerd if hp is low, want close to full hp for this fight

Nerd: Grimer GustX4 (QA if gust disabled), Voltorb QAX3 (use pot on voltorb if hp running low) , Koffing QAX4

-Leave moon, Center, Get Rare Candy
-Menu Swap pots to slot 1 and use both Rare Candies (evolve into Pidgotto)
    -No reason to get IT, you will end up healing or swapping on bridge rival most of the time, also you will have to heal several times on bridge

Bridge Rival: Pidgotto Sand+QAX4 (we outspeed so sand turn 1 REVENGE)(swap if sand after 3rd QA), Abra QA (can pot here if hp low), Rattata QAX2, Bulba GustX3 (more if growled)

#1: Caterpie GustX2, Weedle GustX2
#2: Pidgey QAX2 , Nidoran GustX3
Heal before this fight if hp is low
#3: Rat QAX2, Ekans GustX2, Zubat GustX2
#4: Pidgey QAX2, Nidran GustX3
Heal Before Mankey if hp low
#5: Mankey GustX2 (Karate chop Crit 16-18)
Bridge Rocket: Ekans GustX2, Zubat GustX2

Heal before hiker machop karate chop crit 12-14
Top Hiker: Machop GustX3, Geodude switch to squritle BubbleX2

-Get elixer

Lass: Nido GustX2, Nido GustX2

Jr. Trainer: Rattata QAX1/2, Ekans QAX2

Lass: Oddish GustX2, Pidgey QAX2, Oddish QAX2

Escape rope, take center, go to mart

Mart: Sell TM01, TM12, Nugget, Left over pokeballs
Mart: Buy 3 Repel, 3 Awakening, 3 Parlyz Heal

(get IT? probably)(also maybe get IT after misty depending on HP)

Dig Rocket: Machop GustX2, Drowzee GustX2 (use awakening if put asleep)

Misty Gym
Goldeen: GustX3

Heal to full and save before Misty

Misty: Staryu GustX2,
    Starmie SandattackX2 + QAX4/5 (if hit by BB or WG turn 1 Potion before using QA attack)
    BB - 23-28 (crit 43-47) Tackle - 7-9 Water Gun 13-17 (crit 20-28)

(get IT?) Probably, go to IT house, heal to full or close with pots

Pick up Full Restore and Xspecial in underground
    -Xspec pickup - Once you get Full Restore go straight down, once you see stairs to leave stop, turn around and Xspec should be 1 or 2 tiles above you

Lass: PidgeyX3 - QAX2 (Pray for no sand, can switch to gust if wasting to many QAs)

JR. T: Spearow Gust (range), Raticate QAX2

Mart: Sell TM11, Buy 15 Super Pots (buy more antidotes if needed 2/3)

Take Steps, 4th door going towards boat rival, dont hit hte optional lass, talk to gentlemen

Gentlemen: Growlithe GustX2, Ponyta GustX2 (can use Full Restore if burned since we have Paralyze heals and Antidotes)

Get rare candy

Boat Rival: Bird QAX3, Rat QAX2, Kadabra GustX2 (Confusion around 17, Hitself is 13), Ivy GustX3 (4 if growled)

Menu:Swap 3 w/ Super Pots, Use Rare Candy, swap 1 w/ repel, Teach Cut, Teach Dig, Use Super Pot to heal to full

Surge:Voltorb Xspec+QAX2, Pika QA, Raichu QAX3 (TB will do around 45-50 thundershock 20-25)

After Getting bike voucher, dig, center, get bike

Menu: swap 2 with Bike, Toss moon stone, get on bike

4-turn-grill-now-8-turns: GustX2 everything, switch to QA if Paralyzed, dont heal PSN until after fight, use awakening when needed

BugCatcher: Caterpie GustX2, Weedle GustX2 (can die in 1 hit if stringshot from caterpie), Venonat GustX2

Enter Rock Tunnel

Nerd Cubone: Spam Gust (pray for no growl), Slowpoke: Spam Gust

Nerd Slowpoke: Spam GustX4 or QAX4

Oddish Girl: Oddish QAX2, Bulba QAX2 (use awakening is put to sleep)

Repel, Heal to full, and save before hiker

Hiker:Spam Sand Attack until they use SelfDestruct, can also use whirlwind to stall, use super pots if hp gets below 45ish
    -Graveler selfdestruct does around 40-50, crit wont kill if full hp or near
    -No other good options, squritle to low of level, attacking takes 5+ gust per geodude, graveler you have to use Sand Attack

Lass: Meowth QAX2, (Do not learn wing attack) Oddish QAX2, Pidgey QAX2

After leaving rock tunnel, enter Lav go south of Lav, enter guard house, go upstairs and get Swift TM39 from the girl

Gambler: Growlithe QAX2, Vulpix QAX2

Pick up hidden elixer and nugget!

Take Celadon center, after leaving center teach TM39 swift over slot 1 gust then get on the bike and go to Rocket Hideout Game Corner

Rocket - Raticate QAX2, Zubat Swift.

Press switch, go down twice, go south then north (avoid the rocket stay to the right), take the stairs, go east to the wall then south, talk to the rocket

Rocket #2 - Machop SwiftX2, Machop SwiftX2

Go south get TM10 Double edge (DE), one tile east of the item ball is a hidden Nugget (pick it up)

Head back north then west under the stairs, take first spin pad down and get rare candy, Dig out

Shopping:
Buy 10 super repels
Get TM18 counter from 3rd floor
Buy 2 pokedoll
Buy 1 Fresh water
Sell TM18, TM24, both NUGGETS, and any Potions, Awakenings, Paralyze heals and Antidotes
Buy 5xacc, 3 xspeeds, and 28-30 xattacks

Get Fly
Fly Menu: Swap 2 with super repel, Use Rare candy, Use Super Repel, Swap 4 with Super Pots Teach, Teach TM10 over Whirlwind slot 4,  Swap 3 with Xattack, Teach HM02 fly over slot 2 QA

Fly to Lav, go into tower,

Lav Rival - Bird Xattack (xacc) + DE, Gyrados DE, Growlithe Swift, Kadabra Swift, Ivy Fly
    -Recoils are right at 20 per

FLY all Gastly

Rocket#1: Zubat Swift, Zubat Swift, Golbat SwiftX2

Rocket#2: Koffing Xattack + DE, Drowzee DE

Rocket#3: zubat Swift, rat Swift, Raticate DE, zubat Swift

After flute Fly to Celadon and Go to snorlax first,

Menu use Srepel, swap up rare candy w/ slot 5, use flute

get candy, skip PPup, Super repel either after guard house or safari entry, super repel second time in appropriate spot.

get full restore, get gold teeth, get TM34 Double Team (Ball right next to the statue next to prize house), get HM03, Dig out, Take center

Go to Erika,
Beauty - Fly (flyX2 if it uses reflect),
Erika Fly, Fly, Fly (swift)
    -Evolve into Pidgeot after last pkmn

Fly to Celadon, bike to silph co.

Rocket: Arbok DE + Swift

Heal to full hp or close, use 2 rare candies and save

Silph Rival: Bird Sand attack + Xattack X5 + Xspeed + swift, swift, swift, swift, Swift

Rocket: Cubone SwiftX2 (use Xattack if you get growled), Drowzee DE, Marowak DE + Swift

Heal to full or close before Gio

Silph Gio: Xattack X3 + swift, Kanga DE, Rhyhorn DE + swift (if needing to heal use super on rhyhorn), Nidoqueen DE (recoil does 30-35ish)

Dig out after Gio skipping walking back to rare candy

Take center then goto sabrina

GET TM34 MIMIC in the house going towards sabrina gym, upstairs give girl pokedoll

Sabrina: Kadabra Swift, Mr Mime Xspeed + DE (if Mime uses barrier DEX2), Venomoth Fly, Alakazam DE

Dig, fly to fuschia, GO to koga,

Juggler swift(range), swift, swift, swift

Juggler2: drowzee DE, hypno swiftX2

Koga: XattackX2 (xacc if needed) + DE, DE, Swift (range), SwiftX2
    -If you die to self destruct just use Mom heal

Use super repel, Swap 5 with TM31 Mimic, teach Surf, teach Str, Toss TM48 (Sabrinas TM), push boulder to get rare candy,

Fly to palette town,

Use super repel after going up second steps, then teach TM31 Mimic over Slot 3 Sand Attack.

get 2 rare candies in mansion, get secret key, dig out

Fly back to Cinn and fight blaine

Blaine: xatt X2 + swift, swift, Double edge, SwiftX2

Gio gym
-USE RARE CANDIES B4 FIRST TRAINER AND ELIXER

#1 Rhyhorn xattack, DEX2+swift, if you get tail whip DEX2 only

BlackBelt flyX3

pickup revive while leaving to reset gym trainers

Gio: Mimic HD, xacc, drill all

After leaving gym use elixir, then super repel+bike

VR Rival:Xacc DEX2, Mimic HD, Drill all

Get Rare Candy in Victory Road cave, after first Boulder push instead of turning left and going under the lass, go right then north, push the boulder until its under the item ball to the north, push the boulder north, get rare candy item ball.

Use super repel after picking up rare candy, use other super repel before using STR for the very long boulder push

Center and Buy full restores 12+

Use Rare Candy and teach TM32 Double Team over swift Slot 1

Save before Lorelei Aurora Beam crit = dead

Lorelei: Dewgong Double TeamX2 + Xatt X2 (X3 if growled) + DE, Cloyster DE+Fly, Slowbro DE+swift, Jynx Swift, Lapras DE+swift (Blizz does like 100 if it hits, crit blizz is death)
-RECOILS: Dewgong 40-45, Cloyster 20, Slowbro 30, Lapras 30-40

Full restore, elixir, and save

Bruno: xattX3 + DE, steal ice punch + DE, DE, IP, DE
	-Machamp DE (45 recoil)

Full restore and save before agatha

Agatha: Gengar XattackX3 + Fly, Golbat DE, Haunter Fly, Arbok DE, Gengar Fly

Full restore elixir and save

Lance: Gyarados: Double TeamX1 + XattackX3 + mimic hyper beam +HB, HB, HB, Aerodactyl Fly + HB, Dragonite HB
