- Justify Your Choice Part I: Other Revives.
- Kotoko Utsugi is pretty cool. She probably would've been my second choice if it wasn't Nagisa. (I mean, my second choice would've been Sayaka, but yknow.) Her tragedy and psyche are just as interesting as Nagisa's, but his personal struggle appeals to me more, and he requires giving the writers much less benefit of the doubt.
- Ruruka Ando would be an incredibly funny revive, so it is tempting. But I think this is more than a good spot, with almost everyone left genuinely deserving to be above her, and her getting a great sendoff with Onnie's writeup (and also ShadowGuys comment that was pretty cool too)
- I was not going to revive Junko Enoshima, but I probably did think of the concept of reviving a character I cut for the desire to cut them more than anyone else. There's some stuff that's really good about Junko. There's just more stuff that's really bad.
- I like Chihiro Fujisaki, but that's for dumb personal reasons, and not even dumb personal reasons I'd be nearly as capable of talking about as Nagisa.
- Gonta Gokuhara can stay gone. He's not bad, but I am terminally unable to care all that much about him.
- Part II: Is reviving this person actually justified in any sense or are you just going with low hanging fruit because you have to
- First of all let me be clear that I planned this section BEFORE trophy did a similar thing i am NOT ripping him off if anything trophy ripped ME off, RETROACTIVELY
- I like Nagisa Shingetsu a lot. He's easily deserving of top 10. I'm not going to go over a comparison between Nagisa and every character I think he should get above, both because I don't want to express too many Semi-Controversial opinions and because "every character I think he should get above" would be "almost all of them". I'll give a few comparisons that seem like I can word them well.
- Shuichi Saihara and Fuyuhiko Kuzuryu both have cringe normie arcs, while Nagisa has an epic and cool edgy deconstruction arc. This makes him better. For a more serious comparison, the origin of all three of their flaws come in their upbringing, and while Shuichi's weakness comes from some vague feelings towards one guy he caused to be arrested and was mad, and Fuyuhiko's comes from even vaguer feelings about Being Raised By Yakuza (which gets even more muddled the more they backpedal and insist he's never really been a bad person in any way), Nagisa has a compelling origin for his actions and personality that's very clear.
- Mikan Tsumiki requires as much benefit of the doubt as Kotoko while also not being as funny as Kotoko. Through the transitive property this makes Nagisa a better abuse victim and a better character.
- Lame: Begging people to forgive you in a breakdown, acknowledging some flaw you have or misdeed you've committed
- Cool And Good: Begging people to expect more from you in your breakdown, because you are just so cool and talented and can live up to these expectations
- A Certain Other Honor Student also tells the story of a boy who excels in school, but unlike Nagisa's deep dive into an obsession with success placed upon him by others and then himself, The Other One focuses on the social ineptitude often possessed by such Straight A Students. While I can appreciate that, I see a lot more of "awkward social failings guy Arc" than Nagisa's funky unique deal, and I'm not too fond of the specifics of the other guy.
